    Episode 170 - Bratz

I would actually argue she hates the Bratz less for their failure to conform (because she seems pretty confident that the system will just work regardless) and more just because Chloe "stole" her boyfriend. The rest of the Bratz are just guilty by association.

I will say, as a small counterpoint, that Meredith's seating chart seemed to help the first handful of Freshman that came to her check in table. They all seemed pretty lost and in need of an identity/friends (especially the crying girl). I don't know where these students are coming from that they don't already have friends but it seems like the Bratz are the only girls that came into high school with existing friendships.

I don't want to rewatch it, but I'm pretty sure there was a long list of other things on the left side of the whiteboard that I assumed factored into the final equation. I don't think she was starting with X+Y+Z, but I also wouldn't put it past this movie.

Yeah but those all have a layer of flavor under the cream. I'm talking about just a pie shell full of what looks to be just whipped cream.

    Episode 170 - Bratz

I have a few quick points - - There was a guy that walked through the food court with a big baker carts of pies. He got knocked over by some kids. That's where the weird cream pies came from (side note - i have never seen a cream pie in the real world. Is that pie people can order?) - The deaf kid talked with sign language once and then 'lip read' the rest of the time. But people didn't really make an effort to talk to him or facing him, and I'm pretty sure he responded to people that didn't even speak in his direction. I'm sure they didn't want to dwell too much on it, but man, as a deaf guy, he would be really lost and confused. - Yasmin for sure had no friends right? - We didn't touch on Jade randomly tutoring the football kids for a scene, but it made me laugh that the kid was really excited to get a C+. Also why was he such a dick about the science nerd talking to Jade? Wasn't she in his clique? Shouldn't she be talking to him? - Janel Parrish (Jade) must have gone through a phase where she wanted to be a singer, because she tried singing on Pretty Little Liars too for a second. I don't know if she still does though. She was on Dancing with the Stars which I guess would support June's dancer theory. I love the new picture!

Does MTV still do the Sweet 16 show? Just curious

    Episode 169.5 - Minisode 169.5

I haven't been able to watch this yet, but the girl that plays Chole seemed super familiar but I couldn't place her. So I looked her up on IMDB - and I know her from a Criminal Minds episode- but the startling fact is that she appears to be mostly in a series of movies called Baby Geniuses? Four of them! Why are there four of them? I'm so sad for her.
  8. The main issue that I can think of is that any comedic duo besties that I would enjoy (like Tina/Amy or Anna Kendrick/Aubrey Plaza or Lennon Parham/Jessica St. Clair or even June/Casey Wilson) tend to turn their team ups into broad comedies with a lot of pratfalls. This one had a few physical moments but it was a lot more clever dialogue and great timing with silly escapades. I think it'd be hard to 'modernize' or even just recreate. edit - to be clear, I don't mean that as a critique of the women I listed. They could all probably pull it off, its just not something they tend to do now.
  9. I liked how this movie is mostly clever wordplay and comedy, and then the sound effect when Lorelei and Gus kiss or this diamond face happen. So random.
  10. I think she was for sure just leading him on. I highly doubt she would have crossed any lines to blantently mess with Piggy's relationship. But some extra attention that might lead to jewelry for being pretty and oh so nice to him? For sure that's her MO.
  11. I felt like it was less of a preference and more of a requirement - like if she found out Gus was lying and didn't have money, she'd drop him quickly. She liked Gus because he was the nicest millionaire she knew, but not necessarily the nicest person. And the Diamond song (which probably isn't written by Lorelei but seem to be about her) puts a lot of emphasis on having men buy you diamonds before getting too old. As for Piggy, I feel like if Mrs. Piggy didn't show up, she may have been more torn. Dorothy didn't seem worried per se, but did try to head off the conflict before Lorelei heard about his wealth. But the wife showed up pretty soon after Lorelei heard 'diamonds'.
  12. That's what I thought was happening as well. His dad didn't trust her, Gus mostly did but was extremely jealous of how she was perceived and assumed someone else would 'distract' her. The main thing I didn't like about Gus was how tied to his father's opinion he was. If you love her, marry her! Though, I mean, his dad was right. Lorelei is endearing but a very transparent golddigger. I half expected her to be marrying the dad at the end after he bought into her "I deserve nice things too" speech.
  13. Baxter is redeemed! (My dog, if that's not obvious) I liked Dorothy and Malone together but I also wish we had seen more of their courtship before the word 'love' started getting thrown around. It seemed like they had dinner once, made out a little and then Dorothy found out he was a spy and hated that she loved him. But I suppose that's par for the course for all romantic movies.
  14. I somehow missed the whole reason Gus and Dorothy switched places. I got Gus and Lorelei were going to take the boat and then get married in Paris, and then Gus said he couldn't go...then the two women were getting on the boat? I feel like I missed a scene or some dialogue. To be fair, my dog was all out of sorts and barking at nothing, so maybe he distracted me during that crucial information.
  15. Well the 1952 Olympics were in Finland. Maybe they were going there.
  16. I was confused by the Olympic team. I thought they said they were track and field (which I guess wouldn't make sense) and then they were all gymnast? Dorothy said something about 20 of them, but that doesn't seem like enough athletes.
  17. There's a specific female harmony in that era, and I don't think that it has a name or anything, that I just love. Like the Andrew Sisters or the Chordettes, that a lot of the harmonies and duets reminded me of.
  18. Btw, this is a random thought, but I actually went to the library and rented the dvd for this. It made me feel very old school. They did not have it under 'musicals' which was a very confusing 5 minutes for me. I did not realize that this movie was where the song came from, so I was a little thrown by hearing it. And then when I looked up Jane Russell afterwards, she was credited with the Burlesque soundtrack from the remix they did. It made me very sad for her and Marilyn.

    Episode 169.5 - Minisode 169.5

I haven't watched the movie yet but I was a reluctant fan of Pretty Little Liars and a huge fan of Mona/Janel Parrish on that show. Bummer this movie is going to ruin that for me.
  20. Hemsworth was my favorite part of that movie. The whole Mike Hat/My Cat sequence had me laughing ridiculously hard. Lorelei was a secret genius. I loved watching her con everyone that got in her way.
  21. I really enjoyed this movie though Lorelai constantly calling her fiancee 'daddy' and 'lover' made me squeamish. Thankfully he wasn't around that much so we didn't have that the whole movie. But I found it hilarious and laughed out loud several times. Jane Russell is my new fashion idol - I desperately want that black jumpsuit she wore during the song with the Olympic team using the weird gymnastic gym on a cruise ship. The only nitpicky thing is that I was SURE that the recording of Lorelai and Piggy was going to come back to save her. I was honestly shocked it never came back! It had him explicitly stating that he was giving it to her!

That trailer made me want to find my Veronicas CD
  23. I didn't have any stuck in my head prior to reading this last night but since then, Status Quo has been stuck.
  24. The synopsis of this movie alone qualifies. From IMDB: A young carpenter is mistaken for a Catholic priest and sustains the misunderstanding to seduce a girl. Longer from Wikipedia: When Vanessa (Rachael Leigh Cook), who is about to marry, starts fantasizing about every man she sees, she seeks refuge in the church confessional. After pouring out her soul to the priest (Kenny Doughty) inside, Vanessa asks him to remain by her side to help her remain faithful to her fiance until the big day. However, the man she believes to be a priest is actually a carpenter who was repairing the confessional, and he has fallen head over heels in love with the jittery bride. Its so so so bad. I honestly don't know how it made it past the pitch phase. Trailer https://youtu.be/kOcoDAzO7Ic
