    Homework: Slacker (1991)

That's true. Maybe I should have been more precise: I'd argue that in this case, Linklater tells basically the same joke 3 times in a row. That's simply not very clever comedy.

Favorite and least favorite movies in The Canon

Favorite: All About Eve.This is a film I've seen about 2 years ago, and rewatched it for the particular episode. I've revisited since then at least 10 times, it's become what Devin would call "my background movie". I even love listening to the dialogue, when I go skating or drive the car to work. It always gives me a big smile. However, the probably best-crafted film in the Canon at this point would be Sunrise, in my opinion. Least Favorite: Grand Budapest Hotel. I know, it's a beloved film by many in here, and I guess I should give it another shot. But I was so severely underwhelmed by this flick when I watched it in the cinema, it nearly hurt phisically: The predictability, the cartoonish characters, the "look at me, I'm directing!"-filmmaking, and the boarderline racist depiction of Eastern Europe didn't help. Once you get over the pretty charming performance by Ralph Fiennes, you'll detect that the narrow-minded, child-like ignorant perspective of this film comes with some big issues. Favorites that didn't make it: The Fly, and I wanna give a shout-out to First Blood.

    Homework: Slacker (1991)

Oh boy, I've just watched this film for the first time... There are some really, really well-staged scenes in here. Definitively quite inspiring. But, after watching a couple of his films, I still have some issues with his dialogue... whish, there was less of it. I always kind of feel that these are not the character's words, but some essays Linklater wrote in High School that he made actors to recite.... Also: Conspiracy theories. There's only so many I can handle in 90 minutes without being drunk and/or high.

    Episode 69 - The Christs

I'm an Atheist. While I appreaciate the filmmaking, both Scorsese's and Gibson's take on the subject are relatively hard to swallow to me. In my opinion, to not kill and torture people should be a point of human common sense, not religious morals. I appreciated the discussion, but I don't think I can really judge fairly between these two films. Therefore, I bstain.

    Next Week: The Christs!

    So, can we vote "neither"?

    Suggestion: Rocky IV

You mean like Police Academy IV vs Schindler's List?

    Next Week: The Christs!

So. If you guys like Willem Dafoe so much, when are we going to get a show on Shadow Of The Vampire?

Poll - Should ANTICHRIST be in The Canon?

Thank you for your kind response, and for all the work.

Poll - Should ANTICHRIST be in The Canon?

Stop this poll, please! Half of the fun of this show is reading the (more or less) elaborate answers in the voting threads.

    Episode 68 - Antichrist (w/ Michael Lerman)

I vote a soft yes. I've always been a bit critical of Lars von Trier, mainly because of the reasons I've posted in the Homework threat, back at Wolfpop. I'm still unsure of the merits of this film, but hey, I guess it's been influential enough to legitimate an inclusion in the Canon. Also, you guys made me think that I totally wanna listen to more discussions about this flick. I think this one and Melancholia are the two best films of his late period. By the way: If Antichrist gets included, can we kick out Cannibal Holocaust instead? Also, polls suck, because I really enjoy reading some of the answers in here, which might get lost if people just can click on a button. and I like the thought that it takes some more effort to build an opinion about a film, than just polling yes or no.
