Yeah I agree, it's quite cool to hate them, But I think their impact on cinema has been quite massive. I've said this before, but Sweeney Todd V Ed Wood would be my preferred versus, if we are only having one Burton in there.

The Brokeback Mountain episode "isn't available". Tried unsubbing, resubbing. Deleting etc. Hopefully this isn't an issue from my end (Australia)

If you want controversy and arguments, The Fountain is a better choice I reckon. It's either Loved or Hated. (I'm in the Love camp). Apart from a superb Evolution sequence- I think it's maybe the least ambitious Aronofsky film (even if it has Rock Angels).

I have seen it before- and wasn't too flash on it. Maybe a second viewing will help
-
Yep! Real good insight into the life of these people that I would have no idea otherwise. Also Auntie is the real MVP

More of an episode suggestion rather than a movie recommendation- I think there's fascinating elements to discuss- culturally it's had a huge impact, mostly with its great female character and performance- but there is the inescapable issue of Mickey Rooney's 'Yellow-face'. Plus there are kind of weird choices in the script (i can only assume 60's limitations of adaptation- Lolita style) What do you think?

Singing In The Rain vs. West Side Story
Threshold replied to Marsellus_H's topic in Movie Suggestions
Brutal Episode. Maybe West Side Story, if only because Singing in the Rain lags in that dream sequence -
I've got such a soft no for this that I won't vote. I agree with Amy- it's just Ok, nothing really Canon-worthy apart from the first modern-ish look at alcoholism.

Pennies from Heaven vs. Synecdoche, New York
Threshold replied to HoldenMartinson's topic in Movie Suggestions
I'm all for this, especially considering Pennies from Heaven is depressing and bad, while Synecdoche, New York is depressing and great. -
I feel like Black Swan would stomp, which is sad, because I love Whiplash so much
-
Clearly culturally important for every adventure movie since. Yep- It's in.
-
Obviously you have seen the film. Should we vote with our unaffected opinion? Or listen to the episode to let Amy/Devin convince us otherwise? I'm not advocating either- just interested whether anyone does this- and what the positives or negatives would be for voting pre or post the episode.

Suggestion: Monty Python and the Holy Grail vs. Life of Brian
Threshold replied to JonHillman's topic in Movie Suggestions
Life of Brian would absolutely destroy Holy Grail. But there are quality gags in Holy Grail. -
Suggest - Top Ten from years long gone.

That'd be wonderful! Keen as! -
Soft no, not really good enough to be one of the first of Linklaters' to make it in (so many others to choose from) By itself it's really nothing. A great feature debut- but doesn't really amount to anything more than a one-note joke

Favourite: Grand Budapest Hotel Least Favourite: Working Girl (Still feeling really shitty about that) Didn't Make it: Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Lapsed Catholic here- wonderful discussion (I am a Catholic amateur compared to you guys). Last Temptation is such a positive film- it's a wonder people were offended since it deals with its themes seriously and the faith on display is so real and quite inspiring. Here's a question - does it have the best voiceover work in all of film? I love its use here.

Superman smashes Tim Burton's Batman. A lot of fun, historically important special effects and wonderfully 70's. Superman 2 is a bit garbage though. Burton's Batman is designed well- but go to literally any other Burton film for that. (And I would want at least A Burton film - possibly Ed Wood or Sweeney Todd). You know what? It's quite boring as well. Great theme though

Suggestion -- 'Before' Trilogy
Threshold replied to Shrek & Donkey Kong's topic in Movie Suggestions
Love the Before trilogy, the middle being my favourite. Keen for it to be discussed for the Canon. -
Damn this is gonna be good. Although while it's going to be a great discussion analysing representation of christ, religion and the personal representation of faith; this has gotta go to Last Temptation right?

I honestly don't want any Lars Von Trier in the Canon, but I tapped out after half an hour. Too intense for me. (Don't worry, I haven't voted) I would like the Podcast Discussion of this film in the Canon though. Wonderful work team! It almost made me want to re-attempt watching it. Probably not going to happen. I just don't need that level of depression and disgust in my life.
