  1. The Canon needs more comedy. I would love to hear a Canon VS episode examining Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles, as these two comedies both made a huge mark in 74/75. I would consider Young Frankenstein an underdog, but the two films are so memorable and so connected that I feel a VS would be the way to go. As a University of Iowa graduate, it would be great to see a film with so many Iowa ties be inducted to the Canon. Gene Wilder and Alex Karras were both UI grads (Go Hawks), and Cloris Leachman is from Des Moines.

    Episode 65 - Election

I'm sure it's the latter. Sideways is #2 on my favorite movies list. I've never been disappointed by Alexander Payne, that's for sure.

there's no one movie per director rule

There isn't, but i think they need to build a base of varying films before doubling up on a director. If this was episode 450 and there weren't two from the same director, I'd be upset that Tarantino only has one. If the Canon spans the entirety of cinema, this show is still very much in its infancy, so I wouldn't worry.

    Episode 62 - Oldboy

Thanks so much for bringing this movie to my attention. I thought about my experience watching A Serbian Film while veiwing this film. Less over the top with its violence and shocking moments, I felt similar feelings through them as the scenes progressed. Oldboy is a much better film, but I did have a similar experience watching both of them. The ending was incredible and as I watched the hypnotism sequence I knew immediately that the hypnotism didn't only fail, it wasn't intended to work. As he looks in the glass at himself during the hypnotism sequence, as soon as he walks away and not his reflection, we know that he has been tricked the final time. I listened to the show first before watching the movie, and I didn't expect that portion of the hypnotism. I didn't feel there was any ambiguity regarding it's success. Oh Dae Su was simply one step behind yet again.

    Episode 65 - Election

I absolutely love Alexander Payne. His direction in About Schmidt, his vignette in Paris, Je Taime, and Sideways is so amazing. Need to see Election for sure. What sticks out to me in everything he does is that inevitable moment there is a close up of a face that sticks with me forever.

    Episode 69 - The Christs

I went for Last Temptation, but my heart voted for The Robe.

    Suggestion: Rocky IV

Of the two movies mentioned at the end of Antichrist, I'd go for 1776 way before Rocky VI.

    Episode 68 - Antichrist (w/ Michael Lerman)

I haven't seen Antichrist yet. I've been enjoying listening to the show and catching up on old episodes. The reason for this post has NOTHING to do with Antichrist. At the end of the podcast, Devin said something I couldn't believe. I don't know if he was being serious or not, but he suggested doing 1776 as an episode if a live episode in Philly happened. I LOVE 1776. As a kid, I watched the awful VHS short version, where you couldn't see the entire frame so many times. The performance of William Daniels is so amazing he sparked am an interest in John Adams that I carry to this day. Once the DVD came out and showed the film in widescreen with the extended cut, I appreciated it even more. I don't know if it's "Canon Worthy" but it certainly makes it in the Canon of films that shaped my world. Love the show!
