i actually am kinda bitter thisll probably get into the Canon before any Cronenberg but i do like it
-
for like three years i swore this was a Cronenberg
-
Love it, the case I WOULD make for is that it's the best parody film of the 2000s. Unfortunately, there's a film called Black Dynamite.

If They Live is 'too paranoid' (it's not) it is only to compensate for how uncynical and placated most of the population really is. They Live gets a hard yes for me because it's not just a movie that tackles its subject well but is likely the best.

Drive? More divisive? Definitely not
-
I'm just gonna vote even before I listen. No way I'm budging my yes on this
-
This really needs to happen this year
-
I don't think it has at all. If anything, it makes people yearn for more films like Drive. I know in some parts that people who love it have become a bit of a punchline, but Drive is so, so classic to me. It was a non-franchise $15 million dollar film that blew up and became actually iconic. There have been plenty of definitely classic and popular small films since, but none as iconic as Drive with the scorpion jacket, the perfect soundtrack of Cliff Martinez + synth pop, Gosling's performance, and hell ill even say TOOTHPICKS remind people of it. It's the kind of film that feels like a once-every-few-years deal at this point and it'd suck if it were voted away from the Canon.

Paul Verhoeven's 1997 film was dismissed by many critics as being just the kind of film it satirized. An in depth discussion of the film's themes and reception, as well as Verhoeven's legacy, would be interesting to hear.

the latter I can definitely see the former.... I can't, at all
-
Yeah, any Verhoeven would be nice. fuck it - SHOWGIRLS

What are the most Canon worthy films of this decade?

This doesn't strike me as true at all. -
I have nothing against musicals, and I was actually excited to check out this film, but I did not enjoy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. I don't think I'd vote it into the Canon even if it weren't going up against an extremely better film. Everything worth seeing is in one scene.
-
Clearly one of them has an affinity for it to pick it over, like, The Seven Year Itch. I'm just happy Jack Lemmon will be (probably) in the Canon.
-
Actually, the idea of an episode about it is brought up in the Evil Dead II episode, I think (that or the Cannibal Holocaust one). Devin's definitely seen it http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2012/07/30/schlock-corridor-possession-1981

Please, please, please this

Not mentioned yet: Gravity Spring Breakers (nobody dare question this) Amour Jodorowsky's Dune -
i feel like Some Like it Hot will run away with it. Id rather have Wilder v Wilder with SLIH and The Apartment
-
Not before Spring Breakers is unanimously voted in
-
even if it's good I don't see a Canon argument

Second movie in a row where I'm going in a no. I found it an utterly plain and average movie defined by a twist I'm not even sure was built up to
-
I'm totally on the fence on this one so I can't wait to listen. I think it's one of the best thrillers ever but not sure about films in general. I'm especially on the fence because I think it is at best only Fincher's third best film (after Zodiac and The Social Network).
-
First time in a while I'm going in as a definitive no. When I first watched this movie a year ago, I could not believe how amateur and cheesy it was
-
Crash would not make it to ten, maybe five yes votes
-
Scream was the last slasher that actually mattered. possibly for worse
