    Oscar pool 2017

Awards aren't over, but it looks like La La Land is sweeping the music/production categories but (wisely) not the acting trophies.

    Transylvania 6-5000 (1985)

This was one of those PG movies that parents back in the day would rent for us along with a rental VCR, because the whole process was too cumbersome and expensive for us children to be trusted with important choices like which videos to rent.

    D.E.B.S (2004)

Never seen the full length film, only the 10 minute short it was based on. I personally couldn't take 90 minutes of this. Devon Aoki's puffy baby face weirds me the hell out.

    Britney Ever After (2017)

I was looking forward to it, but it wasn't as much fun as I was hoping for. The guy playing Timberlake was actually quite good imho. The whole thing was really weird for not including ANY Britney Spears songs, but instead having a bunch of covers of other songs like "I Love Rock & Roll" -- I get that music has to be licensed, but it made the movie feel "empty". Even stranger to me is that they didn't appear to have a point of view or really add anything new; it was basically a dramatized Wikipedia entry. Was Britney exploited by her parents? Did the tabloid press and paparazzi have a hand in her mental breakdown? Did she overcome a struggle with drug addiction? These are mostly glossed over, in the name of going through the motions of a generic redemptive pop star arc. The only time it threatened to come alive is an interesting confrontation between Justin and Britney in a club, when it appears they're beginning a dance-off after an argument. I was like "oh shit, is this film about to do something interesting?" but it fizzled out within seconds. Not worth watching unless you're a sucker for these things like me.

    Episode 156.5 - Minisode 156.5

Razzies are dumb. Giving a right wing polemic a Razzie is like seeing fish in a barrel and yelling "Hey guys! There's FISH IN THIS BARREL! What should we do with them?" Dinesh D'Souza has crowdsourced three or four of these now -- my opinion is to give those people less attention, not more. I watched about 20 minutes of 3 Ninjas accidentally last night instead of Surf Ninjas and I can say without a doubt it was the better movie. *RIP Bill Pullman

    Oscar pool 2017

Hmm, I finally saw American Honey this week -- it was great, and I'm surprised it didn't pick up any nominations. Best film about America by an English filmmaker from 2016! Recommend to anyone who likes life and living. I said it before, but there's gonna be figurative riots if La La Land sweeps. It could be an interesting night.

    Mazes and Monsters (1982)

Yeah, they're bad movies because they posit that there actually *was* a Satanic force behind that moral panic. That hoax ruined actual lives like the West Memphis Three, and I don't like the idea of even fictional films saying that Satanic ritual abuse happened.

    Starship Troopers (1997)

Yeah, me too! I assume it had something to do with his psychic abilities -- there was probably something cut that explained this, otherwise I'm not sure why he shows up looking like that at the end.
  10. Australians are terrible people tbqh I blame the entire country for breaking Howard Kremer's heart.

    Musical Mondays Off-Week 5 (Cam Bert's Pick)

I hope Cam Bert is picking a Japanese film! Maybe... Happiness of the Katakuris?
  12. I am fucking fascinated by that interview Vin Diesel did with the Brazilian youtuber. Was he rolling on molly or something? That woman was really pretty, but his reaction was so bizarre! Are we to assume that this is what happens *every time* he meets an attractive woman? This has to mean he was doing this on the set of Return of Xander Cage at last half the time, or whenever he was shooting a scene with Nina Dobrev or the other women. Is "Beautiful World" a place from one of Vin Diesel's D&D games?
  13. June wastes no time reminding us why we love her so much. This House Bunny sushi tangent is classic JDR. And I love how Jason always slips up and reveals his nerd power level -- "They were trying to Greedo-shot-first this scene!"

    Fading of the Cries (2010)

Wow, they really spared no expense, huh? This looks like a fan trailer made by someone who hasn't watched anything but anime.

    Ski Patrol (1990)

I don't know, the Marc Harmon one -- Summer School -- is pretty good, for harmless low brow 1980s fun. It's just below stuff like Better Off Dead. I have Ski Patrol mixed up in my head with the two or three other ski movies: Hot Dog, Ski School, and uh, I guess Ski School 2.

    Episode 155.5 - Minisode 155.5

It's a big, dumb action movie like Fast & Furious but much stupider, if you can even believe that. I think bombastic spectacles like these films benefit significantly from the theater experience. If it's not expensive or out of your way, I recommend seeing it in the cinema.

    Episode 155.5 - Minisode 155.5

huh, I guess they must have moved xXx up so people can still see it in the theater. Mitchell Gooseman sounds like a nice guy but I still hate his character in Airborne.

    Fifty Shades Darker (2017)

I feel bad for the dude, because this Christian character is just about the worst written role ever. I hope it doesn't kill his career too hard.

    The Wraith (1986)

Always a sure-fire sign of a quality movie! Leprechaun 2, Carnosaur, Silent Night Deadly Night 4, Santa With Muscles, Silent Night Deadly Night 5, Tango & Cash, and Bigfoot: The Unforgettable Encounter, among many other fine motion pictures.

    Episode 155 - Airborne: LIVE!

He's just a hobbyist painter with a couple pieces in a gallery in Galveston. I don't think he's trying to pull a fast one on anyone. They're fine paintings, for a self-taught artist, and I'm sure they make lovely gifts for his family. Does anyone else have forum posting anxiety whenever you're at another 20 posts and about to roll the thread into a new page? This has stopped me from posting MANY times.
