    Homework: Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)

So is the only option to download this illegally?

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

Definitely would like it if AIRPLANE!, Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein were nominated. The mockumentary could be its own slightly separate category. Spinal Tap seems like a shoe-in against anything else, unless you made a versus with Best in Show or A Mighty Wind maybe. How do people feel about Fear of a Black Hat? It's always been a favorite but I feel it was overshadowed by the bigger budget but not as good CB4 coming out the same year.

    Suggestion for 100th Episode Format

I think it was much too soon to induct Chi-raq into the canon. Most people hadn't even had the chance to see it yet. However, after seeing it, I really liked it and wouldn't vote it out.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

There's definitely room for a good parody movie in the canon. Either of these would make a great discussion.

    Suggestion for 100th Episode Format

I really like Chi-raq. I would like to eliminate Cannibal Holocaust from the Canon.

    Bye bye birdie vs. Grease

I've never been a big fan of movie musicals. I love Grease though. How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is another favorite.

    Episode 82: THEY LIVE

I swear I read or heard it in a John Carpenter interview that a lot of Piper's one-liners came from his own notebooks full of lines he planned to use in wrestling interviews.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

I think I'm doing OK for a 15 year old with a wife and a baby.

    Homework: Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)

I checked Fandor, TriBeCa Shortlist and Mubi. It's not available there either.

    Bowfinger

Last good comedy maybe, but I wouldn't put it up there with Trading Places or The Jerk,

    Network

Just do Network. I'm not sure it needs a versus.

    Cinematic Universes & The Canon

Ant Man and Winter Soldier are my favorites so far (well, other than Guardians), but I wouldn't say they're Canon-worthy. Haven't seen Civil War yet.

    Cinematic Universes & The Canon

Although an outlier in the MCU, didn't Guardians of the Galaxy get in? For kicking off MCU, Iron Man seems to be most appropriate. But man did I hate the Avengers. I'm just not a CGI Action fan.

    TV Movies

The Red Riding Trilogy is about the only thing I can think of that would be canon worthy. Perhaps the first in the series if you must pick one. Maybe Behind the Candelabra based on what I've heard about it. I haven't seen it yet though.

    Robert Altman

I really didn't like Nashville. It's the music really. It was so awful to listen to. I really don't get the love for that movie. I would love to hear a discussion of 3 Women. I enjoyed that one a lot. I watched that twice back-to-back when I first saw it. I could use another viewing.

    Spike Jonze

Her is my least favorite of the 3, but I do really like it. What about Being John Malkovich vs. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for a Charlie Kaufman themed episode? They're both slam dunks I think.

Any Conservative films deserve to be in the Canon?

It seems that anything intentionally conservative would not be Canon-worthy while anything we suggest as Canon-worthy is only conservative because conservatives happen to like it. I love Brad Bird's animated features. I am familiar enough with Ayn Rand's writings to get the comparison but I think they lack the cruelty of her philosophy. I agree that if anything, Dirty Harry or maybe Death Wish.

Suggestion: The Night of the Hunter

It's incredible that Charles Laughton only directed one movie. I guess it didn't do well originally. I just wish we could have seen more from him.

    Similar film podcasts?

One thing I really like about the Canon, the Dissolve and what I've heard today on The Last Picture Show is that they assume you watched the movie and don't make any attempt to keep it spoiler-free. I don't really listen to podcasts to hear about a movie before seeing it. I want critique and dissection not previews and general recommendations. With Maltin on Movies, I often skip ahead anyway if I haven't seen the movie. I just want their take on a movie I've already seen. I wish they wouldn't hold back to avoid spoilers.

    Similar film podcasts?

I like the Maltin on Movies format when Baron Von Vaughn cohosts but haven't enjoyed the guest episodes where they don't stick to the format. The Alec Baldwin episode wasn't too bad though.

    Similar film podcasts?

I had no idea Last Picture Show was from the Dissolve writers. Thanks! I have a new podcast to listen to.

    Similar film podcasts?

The website went ceased publication a year ago but the Dissolve podcasts were really good and everything is still online. It's very academic but if enjoyed film classes you should like the Dissolve. It's too bad it no longer exists as that was exactly what I was looking for in a film website and podcast.

    Kurosawa?

As for a samurai film, Kobayashi's Harakiri would be canon worthy. Same screenwriter as Ikiru, Rashomon and Seven Samurai.

American Hustle and Harold & Maude

I'm almost embarrassed to say the only Ashby movie I've seen is Being There, which I love. Harold and Maude is definitely on my list and having it nominated would finally push me to watch it. As for American Hustle, I also think it's quite mediocre, as is everything I've seen of David O. Russell. I remember liking Spanking the Monkey but I haven't seen it since it was first released. Russell's movies are entertaining enough, but just not worthy of any second visits or much discussion afterward. American Hustle just felt like it wanted to be a Scorsese movie. It just felt like a light version of Goodfellas.
