Now that there likely won't be a TWBB v TAOJJBTCRF episode lets circle the wagons around this one and another western it could go up against. THE UNFORGIVEN (both are revisionist in different ways)?

Amy told me... finally... that her indulgence pick is actually going to be JESSE JAMES. get excited guys!
-
Hell yes. A movie that perfectly executes its every intent.

I brought it up to Amy in person on Saturday and watched her entire body chemistry recoil at the idea, but I still love her.

Respectfully disagree. I don't think it's obvious at all. In fact, while I love THERE WILL BE BLOOD, I find that to be the far more obvious film thematically. As for Jesse James, a lot of people talk about its insight into nascent celebrity culture but I think its just as powerful an examination of the qualities that make people attractive to others in addition to what kind of acts society is willing to tolerate. How neediness and being "thirsty" can relegate someone to a particular perception. How the perception if public figures is binary. Good. Or Bad. How a criminal can be a folk hero as long as he doesn't betray the narrative that has been projected upon him/her.

Voting yes. Great episode, listened on the drive this morning. Also Devin's comments w/r/t "burn it down" at the 12:20 mark are spot on.

Perhaps even vs THE HOWLING? Both came out the same year and both are probably the best "modern" werewolf films. That is, if you're not gonna to THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD.

Suggestion -- AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON

Dean, agreed. Nope, thanks for the solidarity! -
Don't love the movie and initially voted "no." But then switched my vote to "yes"... falling on the side of the argument that it paved the way for other, better films to address these themes. Even if I never want to see it again, the movie made a noteworthy impact.
