At risk of sounding like a noob...what? What is this? I'm sure it's an obvious reference, but it's lost on me like Seinfeld quotes.

Damn you and your LAcentrism. Visit landlocked locales!

From what I can tell without actually seeing the "film", my outside perspective is that my favorite part of the movie would likely be the fact that Keith David's character is named Agent Keith. Genius.
-
He's also responsible for Fear the Walking Dead. He may be guilty of having suspect judgment at times.

I didn't subject myself to this "film" yet, but after listening to the first half of the episode, I have some takeaways. 1. They are live participants in a game directed by other humans. Isn't that just an updated take on The Running Man? 2. "Orientals." Interesting choice of wording by the writers. 3. "MAXIMALIST!" Someone get that and Zouks on a shirt. Now!

I forgot another film I tend to watch a lot around this time of year. The Shining (Kubrick's) has no holidays associated with the storyline, but it seems to fit. For one, the mood and atmosphere are creepy. I love the look and feel of the film, and the score sets the tone. I remember watching it with friends back in high school, and a couple were legitimately freaked out seeing it the first time. Second, the Torrance family moves into the Overlook when it's closing for the season, settling in for the closing months from October to May. That always strikes me as the buildup starting around Halloween. Even in Stephen King's recounting of how he developed the story, he tells of going to stay at the Stanley Hotel on October 30th, when no other guests were around. Alas, with all the chills, the most terrifying part of the film is Shelly Duvall's "acting" as Wendy Torrance.

Whoa. I think The Nightmare Before Christmas could pass as a film for either holiday, but no way in hell does Gremlins qualify as a Halloween flick. Are they pitching Donnie Darko as an Easter film? You know, because of the rabbit.

Yes, Dafoe was funny in Shadow of the Vampire. I like him in just about anything, and this is no exception. My son is four and has seen The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline. He loves the former, but is more than a little creeped out by the latter. "I don't like the people with button eyes." But Oogie Boogie is fine, I guess.

Amazing through all of Stephen King's writings that he's still religious, though doesn't appear to take part in organized religion. Maybe it's more obvious in his writings than I perceive, but surprising nonetheless.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect to get scares watching the original. It would strictly be from historical perspective. Lang's Destiny is on Netflix. I haven't watched it yet, but it's fairly high on my list.

Thanks for the warning. Maybe Shadow of the Vampire is close enough to the original. Malkovich and Dafoe are both fun to watch. Herzog's is worth seeing. Definitely dated, but I don't recall any points that made me laugh. Atmospherically, it's pretty gripping. The opening title sequence is really well done. If you watch it alone in the dark, it might give you some scares. Here's the opening sequence.

I just reread this...you watched Zap Rowsdower?!?! Nicely done. Oh, and another I need to dust off is Herzog's Nosferatu. To date, that's the only film I went to by myself, and it creeped me out because there was only one other person in the theater. I haven't seen the original, but recently saw Shadow of the Vampire and it made me want to watch both.

My 4-year old will watch the film all year if he has his say. He loves it, but I think he views it more as a Halloween movie than for Christmas. Maybe it's because of the look and feel and the "This is Halloween" song. If anything, you could probably justify classification as a 4th quarter film, because it covers both holidays. I like that the voice of Jack Skellington is done by Chris Sarandon, who also plays the antagonist in Fright Night.

The Nightmare Before Christmas has been a favorite of mine for years. Same with the first and second Halloween movies. This year, I added a few to the seasonal lineup...Nightbreed, Evil Dead, Phantasm, Fright Night. I could see one or more of those become part of my annual rotation. Sleepy Hollow isn't a great film, but the atmosphere makes it worth watching. I might watch the first two Hellraiser films if I can find a time when my two kids younger than 5 are asleep.

Maybe the title's symbolism is that dreamcatchers could maybe, possibly, kind of resemble a fancy interpretation of a butthole. You know, because of the anal aliens in the story. Just throwing it out there as a potential theory. I'll show myself out.

Witchcraft AKA Witchery AKA La Casa 4 (1988)

Ridiculous. It looks like a cross between They Live and The Lost Boys, only worse and with witches.- 1 reply

Jason Lee can thank Scientology for giving him the abilities used in this role and his recurring role as Dave in the Chipmunks franchise. Maybe he considered peanut butter an SP after this doozy.
-
I don't know which is more absurd...the costumes themselves or the models mugging in their photos.

How disappointing that they followed up the excellent Westworld with this nutty turd of a film. Amazing they were able to get the cast they did for a really mediocre sequel before mediocre sequels became so popular.

Too soon?

I haven't seen Dreamcatcher, so the excitement is lost on me. However, here are some Stephen King films I hope are in the running for Ep 146. Children of the Corn --"Malachi!!!" Silver Bullet --Roger Ebert gave the film three stars out of four, saying that the film "is either the worst movie ever made from a Stephen King story, or the funniest." Graveyard Shift --Rats! The Running Man --"Uplink underground, uplink underground. If you say that one more time, I'll uplink your ass, and you'll be underground!" Sleepwalkers --More vampires!

Thanks for the heads up. 1981 looks ripe for the picking. Mommie Dearest, Tarzan, The Legend of the Lone Ranger, Endless Love, Rollover.

This may have already been mentioned, but Paul stated in the Stealth episode (I think) that the only year they hadn't done yet was a film from 1985. However, the Travolta/Curtis turd Perfect was from 1985. That being said, there were some other doozies from that year...Rocky IV, Rambo II and Revolution. If they did one, I'd vote Revolution. The others are layups, and didn't have the 1) tiny box office haul or 2) the gall to have a Christmas release.

Episode 140 - Mannequin Two: On the Move (w/ Steve Agee)

Thanks! I tried, but I failed. It wouldn't work, but I appreciate the assist. Even more, I appreciate the Cage Cat example. Nicely done. -
Episode 141 - The Shadow: LIVE! (w/ Pete Davidson)
IRONicmerMAN replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
1. I haven't seen this movie and can't say how closely they're illustrated, but this is the second film that features color blindness. The Bruce Willis turd Color of Night had him stricken with psychosomatic color blindness. 2. With regards to the tomb of Genghis Khan, I think the episode made mention of potential luck associated with it. However, the opposite is true. There is legend of a curse surrounding the Great Khan's tomb. Westerners are more interested in finding it, while those in the lands of the old Mongol Empire probably want nothing to do with it so they can avoid any run-ins with the Khan's curse.
