Definite yes. In the episode Devin and Amy talked about how Frank Sinatra was the progenitor for Beatlemania, but really the earliest example I can think of with the phenomena of fan adoration taken to the next level would be with Franz Liszt. Beatlemania is a term probably coined after the term Lisztomania, though I don't know that for certain.
