    Emoji Movie (2017)

It works really well, even in the biggest city in the country where we have literally everything you'd ever want to watch. My eldest is not quite 8 though, so I think this tactic has limited uses, sadly. I successfully deployed this strategy on 'Nine Lives' last year, and having later seen it on Netflix, I'm so glad I didn't pay for it.

    Emoji Movie (2017)

I've already told my children that due to copyright restrictions, this movie is not being released in Canada. They are suspicious because of all of the bus-side advertising, but so far I'm successfully convincing them that it's advertising aimed at Americans.

    Episode 167.5 - Minisode 167.5

    Ooooof. Bring on Musical Monday.
  4. It's really nice to be able to get in on the ground floor of one of these podcasts: I've spent forever trying to catch up on Spontaneanation and Comedy Bang! Bang! (I'm 80 episodes behind on Spont and about 20 behind on CBB) so to find this one early is very good news.
  5. I have an imgur account, I find that a pretty good place to stash all my junk.
  6. What a question to ask, Tomathan!
  7. Not yet, but I'm subscribed. I'm especially impressed to see PFT in the first ep since he's famously self-referenced himself as 'terrible at' improvised music and lyrics in the past. Very pleased that he's confronting his weaknesses, few though they may be.

I remember that too! My first thought was, "hey, KBell, bad form body-shaming the girl with fake boobs." Mutant lungs is a straight up terrible line though.

This wasn't the old huge-rainstorm-tries-to-leave-bodily-hauling-her-back-into-your-apartment-even-though-she-keeps-saying-no thing was it? That one gets 'em every time.

PLEASE tell us you wooed her by exiting the room several times and re-entering in different kinds of pyjamas, before re-entering and covering your junk with a box of cookies. If your date was thanks to Burlesque, then love has won today.

There were a lot but they merged into one giant 'THIS IS NOT BURLESQUE' rageball. I'll try to pick out some more specific things from her when we're not heading out the door to take the kids to the beach.

I apologise for nothing. With apologies to Benjamin Franklin: 'Old Dogs' is proof that Hollywood hates us and wants us to be miserable.

My iTunes has Season of the Witch available right now (episode 2) but it looks like nothing's behind the paywall right now.

Oh lord, I watched that again a few months ago. Not sure I can cope with watching Seth Green get molested by a gorilla again.

Even though Xtina has performed with the original Pussycat Dolls (back when they were a burlesque troupe), I don't think anyone on this film is under any illusions that this is actually burlesque, it's a Hollywood impression of what burlesque might be. There's no way they'd call this movie 'strip club' (a la Demi Moore's 'Striptease') or 'showgirls' (a la 'Showgirls') or 'cabaret' ('Cabaret') but burlesque seems a decent enough catch-all. From the movie, I would define burlesque as non-nude, no-contact titillation in a show-style environment, first as lip-synch but later as live cabaret. And the final song (How Do You Burlesque) seems to suggest that it is whatever you make it. But that's like making a movie called 'baseball' and then showing a sport with tennis nets and ice skates and the golden snitch, and then finishing up by saying 'how do YOU baseball'. Just because you say something is something, doesn't make it so.

I think the person with the biggest time difference is Cam Bert - our main regular out west is Kateacola in Arizona, but she didn't make it last night. Agreed with thanks to tom! In terms of future hosting, there are a lot of us who have picked up copies of films with the intention of watching them one day - can you still share viewings of blu-rays you're playing on your computer or an MP4 in Media Player? If so, we can start nominating copies of things that we have. I have a copy of The Last Airbender (along with a stack of other horrible things) that I haven't been able to bring myself to watch alone, but if Rabb.it will let us share the watching, then I'm happy to host one.

When i saw Frozen I had no idea Bell could sing. I only knew her from Heroes and from the things she did with Dax Shepherd. But after Frozen she made it clear that she has a university degree in musical theatre, so it's not a new skill. My guess would be that it makes no sense for the story for Xtina's predecessor to be able to sing: she needs to be the old-school version. Really, does any of the showgirls sing except Xtina? Maybe they do, but none featured really. If Bell is shown to have the same skillset as Xtina, then they're competing again, whereas the story depends on Bell being out of her depth in this new world, kind of like a silent movie actress suddenly realizing she can't speak on film, a la Singing in the Rain...

I gotta say, it was a delight to watch the movie with a group who were united in their disdain for this thing. If we were watching a MM film that one or two people were defending, it might be a slightly less cathartic experience. I'm going to look for a 10 foot HDMI cable today so I'm ready for the next time... I just listened to the first half of the podcast episode again, and I have to say that it really holds up. I thought it might be equivalent to watching the first season of Survivor where Jeff Probst and the producers aren't really sure how things work yet. But no, first episode (aside from some long-abandoned initial segments) is slick and the tone is exactly the same as it is seven years later. That's incredibly reassuring. I'd be totally in support of doing this every two weeks, guys. Super fun.

I gotta say that I really like the idea of rabb.it but having my computer plugged in to my tv (so I'm Not antisocial) means I can't join in the chat. And all the chat is on rabb.it not here. We'll have to figure out the growing pains...
