    Musical Mondays Off-Week 11 (Maximiliano's Pick)

American Gods is, aside from a perhaps over-reliance on CGI, a bloody masterpiece. I really thought the book was unadaptable but McShane is god damn poetry as Mr. Wednesday. The casting overall is fantastic. Could anyone ever do Czernobog justice as well as Peter Stormare did? Fargo season 3 is stunningly, frighteningly good. OMG Taylor, catch up ASAP. That goes double for you EvR.
  4. See how much more detail you can get into a post with spreading them out! Nice post, Max! Keep 'em coming every time there's a lag in the forum, and this thread will never die (like HSM!).
  5. Yes! I completely forgot that the reason he gets separated from his family was his own stupidity. Oh look! A big storm! LET ME THROW MY HAT UP IN THERE. You got what you deserved, dumb rodent.
  6. After watching this movie five times in a week, Max, don't blow all of your notes in one big post! Spin it out over a week!

    Musical Mondays Off-Week 11 (Maximiliano's Pick)

Hey, totally off topic (since this thread is moving over to the new one tomorrow) but three quick TV-related questions: 1) Who's watching 'American Gods'? 2) Who's watching 'Fargo'? 3) Does anyone see the new promos for 'Twin Peaks' and just think 'I don't believe you anymore, Mr. Mayor' whenever Kyle McLaughlan comes on? Okay, carry on.
  8. I spent three hours in the car with my daughter today and we listened to all three soundtracks all the way through. This is just part of my life now. Plus, I like seeing the post count climb.
  9. He makes a cameo in the over-credits scene but it was exclusively on the Disney Channel version: the rental we had didn't have it. He's in a touring musical: no mention of Juilliard at all, so they're both just lousy dropouts. It's this gem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDPO00iULg8 The awful Murphy Bed bit at the end is a callback to earlier. Oof.
  10. Okay, I've recovered from the shock of Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure enough to speak to it a bit. - it's a year later. - Sharpay stars in a local theatre production which seems to be all about how fabulous she was. - Her dad tells her that she's been messing around for a year since she left high school, so clearly the whole 'going to U of A and co-directing' at the end of HSM3 thing didn't work out. - At the end of this big production number, a theatre producer (or casting agent), played by Pat Mastrioanni, or Joey Jeremiah from DeGrassi, tells her that he's casting a New York production and he wants her to come in to audition for it. - Dad says no way, it's a waste of time. Agrees to let her go to New York for one month and if she fails she has to come back and work at the country club from HSM2. - Still no sign of Ryan. - Sharpay goes to New York. Looks suspiciously like Toronto. - Yep, that's definitely Toronto. - Montage montage montage - Sharpay turns up to the audition. - FINDS OUT THE AUDITION IS ACTUALLY FOR HER SMALL DOG - Yes, pause to note that Joey Jeremiah was scouting local theatre productions in New Mexico to cast a small dog in a Broadway show. - Show is called 'A Girl's Best Friend' (being the dog) - Show stars repellent 'star' actress who is awful to everyone. - (Here's one just for EvRobert) - Star Actress routinely calls Sharpay 'SHARPIE' - Small dog has to compete against another small dog for this role. - Obviously, the dogs fall in love. Obviously. - Cover of Katrina and the Waves. They're really scrambling for musical content. - Sharpay competes against the 12 year old owner of the other dog and pulls pranks like using dog whistles and stray cats to distract the other dog - Sharpay becomes awful star actress's personal assistant - Cleaning montage. Not sure what the awful actress has been eating to block up the toilet like that. - Random side love story with generic blonde boy - Star actress reveals she wants the dogs cut from the show the night of opening, then quits the show for some reason - Director decides to cancel the show - Sharpay reveals she knows the whole show - Sharpay stars in the lead at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, Toronto Broadway - Kiss between blonde boy and the former villain of the High School Musical series This is so offensive in so many ways. Sharpay is given a chance to carry the movie but there's nothing endearing about her, and while it's good to see her grow up a bit, everything just falls in her lap in the end anyway. The things I do for my kids. And you guys.
  11. Guys, I barely have the strength to post about 'Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure', such has my will to care been sapped. Forgettable music, awful scripting, bored-out-of-their-minds everyone. Go see my review at letterboxd for slightly more. https://letterboxd.com/shaksper/film/sharpays-fabulous-adventure/

    Episode 162.5 - Minisode 162.5

Yep, all of this. As usual, Cameron has said what I was trying to say, in a far more eloquent and insightful manner. I like when Jason does his JLS lines, but let's leave those jokes to the professionals. Did you hear how much Jason enjoyed it in the last live episode when that one audience member tried to 'Hey Nong Man' him? Hint: he didn't like it at all. From all accounts, strangers on the street Hey Nong Man-ing him is way less funny than Aukerman doing it to him in studio.

Whoever has the MM pick for July 2018, if you choose this, I will be seriously unhappy with you. http://www.today.com/popculture/sequel-mamma-mia-coming-out-next-year-t111796

    Episode 162.5 - Minisode 162.5

I assume that the fact that 'Gamer' was covered by the podcast relatively recently (essentially a massive 'Running Man' rip-off) is going to be a central point of conversation? Or is 'RM' on the podcast because it's set in 2017 and has a former TV star as president, making the parallels too good to pass by?

Where can we start a petition to permanently ban Jacob's Ladder Scenarios and Shared Universes from the C+Os? What if we just agree every film could possibly be both things in some way, assume it's a law of nature, and never say it again?

Oof. Imagine the things we'd have to talk about with a 'Rent' starring Lady Gaga, Corbin Bleu and Wayne Brady...

Episode 162 - My Stepmother Is An Alien: LIVE!

I liked Pacific Rim a whole bunch but I was SO phenomenally disappointed that with all of the great Australian actors out there, WHY ON EARTH in this day and age would you cast two non-Australian actors (one American, one British) who did all of their accent prep by watching the Australia episode of the Simpsons? And their names are HERC and CHUCK. I can't think of two less Australian names. Call them Damo and Bruce and we're on to something. Seriously, in this day and age, there is NO excuse for people putting on shitty accents in major films.

Episode 162 - My Stepmother Is An Alien: LIVE!

Ooh! I've got one! Genuinely the most terrible movie, in so many ways, that offends my brain on so many levels that it causes me nothing but anger and disbelief. Easily Roland Emmerich's worst film (which is saying a lot, and thanks to Taylor Anne for the reminder in the above post): I give you the stunningly ham-fisted (the Earl of Oxford wrote 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' when he was eight! DID YOU KNOW?) Anonymous.
  22. Also: I'm 99% sure my five year old is going to pick 'Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure' as her Friday night movie pick this week. I'll report back when I have information.
