  1. It was so small I missed it entirely
  2. Yeah I was mostly joking about the coach salary thing. I mean, HS football coaches make a good living in places like Texas, but that's an exception. Most don't get paid for extracurriculars, they get paid to teach and the coaching stuff is 'service'. My wife's a music teacher but because she's in an alternative school she doesn't have to do things like band and orchestra: if she was in a mainstream school she'd have to do all that (including the school play) out of the goodness of her heart. There's no way Troy's dad isn't the gym teacher too. No way.
  3. Looking at the post count for this thread go up and up and I'm all like,
  4. You could pick just one thing? Aw. Seriously though, that second last chapter where Ahab finally gets at the whale? I never thought I would read a 160 year old book with my mouth gaping open and with sweat on my brow. Beautiful, beautiful action writing.
  5. He's looming, looming on the horizon, cap'n. ETA - you just reminded me how much I fuckin' love Moby-Dick. So much.
  6. Except he seems to have his own office, unless that's just one he shares with the other coaches. And he calls Ms. Darbus derisively by her last name, as if she's a peer. I think if he was something else, he's either a real estate agent or a freelance writer who 'works' all day in Starbucks.
  7. Plus he doesn't seem to also teach Physical Education, so he must be one of those highly salaried high school basketball coaches they've got over there in New Mexico. I agree: he appears to be a terrible coach, with no control over his team whatsoever.
  8. I think in this universe they separate the geniuses and the nerds. The geniuses are essentially alphas in white coats, the nerds are socially awkward. Taylor's the judgiest one of the lot right off the top, I don't think Martha's crew have the brains to roll with the genius crew.
  9. In case anyone's wondering, or new enough to the boards to not remember this in real time, here is the mind-blowing forum thread that we are on the verge of overtaking as largest in history. Anyone feel like reading this through for the first time? I did months ago, it's a doozie. http://forum.earwolf.com/topic/32740-episode-134-cant-stop-the-music-live/ For those of you who were here back then: I'm sorry to bring it up again.
  10. Would Sharpay be easier or harder to justify if she was Mormon?
  11. No, because Troy's mom said that they flew 'all the way there', so that means it's not that close. I would guess that NM was chosen for perma-summer?
  12. The second movie just started as next one cued up so my kids begged me to let them watch the 'Summertime' song. And in it, Ms Darbus has to wake Jason up who's fallen asleep in the classroom AFTER the final bell of the school year. I'm concerned he has a serious narcoleptic disorder.
  13. Here's another article that made me lol. http://intelliviral.com/what-the-fuck-is-the-plot-of-the-musical-in-high-school-musical/
  14. Who the hell is sitting backstage ready to fly a giant moon in during their audition?
  15. How much time do you think that would take to develop?
  16. Anyone notice that the musical they're all auditioning for is called 'Twinkle Towne'? With characters called Arnold and Minnie? Does this honestly sound like something Kelsi would have written? I googled 'Twinkle Towne' and found this very amusing slideshow: http://tvline.com/2016/01/20/high-school-musical-anniversary-photos-twinkle-towne-plot-explained/
  17. Now we just need a HSM/Hurt Locker crossover Very Special Episode.
  18. If she was from San Diego before, maybe that means her dad's a Marine...
  19. Sharpay says she's been in 17 school productions at East High, and she's a junior. There are professional rep companies that don't produce that often!
  20. No, I know that it can happen. I just don't get why they had to be at a third location entirely. Why not make it a 'Summer Nights' thing where they meet in Albuquerque over the break? And I should say that, yes, I 'get' it, I just wonder what the point of over-complicating it is.
  21. Okay, here we go. The newspaper article that Sharpay prints out to show the school that Gabriella has a, like, past or something shows her last school to be in San Diego. Which makes it even more bananas that she's at a random ski resort with her future boyfriend.
  22. There was some suggestion the Gabriella's mom worked at the lodge, but not sure that can be supported. It's more to do with the fact that they are far enough away from Abq that they have to fly there, and if Gabriella is on vacation too that makes it even more outlandish, since Gabriella has only just moved to New Mexico. So why is Gabriella on a vacation in a completely other place a week before starting at a new school?
  23. This might be what hell is like. For the second Friday night in a row, my kids chose to watch... High School Musical 1. I'll post as I go. Okay, in the ski lodge, Troy's mom says "did we fly all the way here to play basketball", which suggests that this is far from Albuquerque. This means that Troy's family is vacationing in Gabriella's old home town. That's bananas. Also, the way that Troy and Gabriella met in the karaoke with the most heavy-handed lyrics ever ('this could be the start of something new', as they start something new) was 100% due to the random choice of a follow-spot operator. They're looking for someone to sing, and they're picked only because two follow-spots randomly fall on them.
