Solid Fall Out Boy pull, Cam.

What would you do without me? </rhetorical> Conaway looked pretty rough but he had great presence. You could see the Kenickie star shining through...

    Episode 159.5 - Minisode 159.5

I've forgotten all details now, having watched this last month. So, I'm going to step out this week and leave the floor open for the hate-watchers. I didn't hate-watch it so much as check the clock every 3-4 minutes.

I'm just following everyone else's lead about how to play letterboxd prior to Mondays. Why spoil the surprise? I will say that the beloved movie I watched over and over as a child seemed to have been somehow replaced by a terribly unsettling movie about coping techniques under terrible trauma and slavery.

Oh shit! I wondered why a few of you added those to your watchlists on letterboxd! I too loved 'Stepmother is an Alien' as a kid. Pretty sure Kim Basinger sings an Al Jolson song to convince her alien overlords that humans are worth sparing. And the most awkward Dan Aykroyd sex scenes since his ghost BJ in 'Ghostbusters'. This one will be fun...

Tom, we specifically talked about you after we gave the standing ovation after 'The Battle of Yorkton'.

Just catching up with forums now! I had the absolute trip from hell to Cameron H's Town what with weather and cancelled planes and lots of absent academics (due to weather cancellations) and a night in the most murdery motel in the United States... But... A true highlight was the 2 1/2 hours I got to wander around with Cameron H, with plenty to chat about and plenty of fun to be had. ALL of you were mentioned by name, at least a few times. Yes, we met up and walked around talking about a forum and podcasts in general. Like you're surprised. As for 'pics or it didn't happen' - I'm glad to say I managed to get a photo of myself with the elusive Cameron H. Don't click through if you want to maintain the mystery...

I showed my kids the clips that they have on IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076538/videogallery?ref_=tt_pv_vi_sm) and they're pretty interested, so we're watching as a family on Friday. So, if my children cry, kate, I'll know who to blame... My daughter's particularly excited about "the silly bad guys." I've now had the damn song 'It's Not Easy' in my head for 24 straight hours. "He's got... the head of a camel..."

Even scarier - an Australian PLAYING a Canadian (like me).

No, we're animals. That myth has been propagated to discourage immigration.

    Episode 159 - Sleepwalkers

What I don't get is that why they set up the teacher to be a prime antagonist for the Sleepwalkers, only to use him as a expendable murder victim as soon as he states his opposition. As they say in the podcast, the teacher is positioned to have some knowledge about the Sleepwalkers from the essay (why else have that essay?), and when he catches up with Charlie on the road, that seems an ideal opportunity to pass on his knowledge. Particularly when the teacher says "I know what you are," the misdirect is that the teacher is actually saying that he knows Charlie is... what? Gay? And all of a sudden, an interesting character choice, with a teacher who puts their knowledge to use, becomes the trope of the angry, violent, closeted man making an unwanted advance. The fact that he's immediately killed after losing his hand means he's got his just desserts. But why bother with this penis-groping angle? Especially since there's little reason to believe in the classroom that the teacher has some kind of sexual desire for Charlie. Drawing this out, however, means that you have to wonder about what this teacher has done to get to this point as a sexual predator. He's pulling kids over on lonely roads and groping their balls: how many other kids has he done this to? Are we to believe this is the first time he's tried this? Does this maybe mean that the kid he whacks on the knuckles puts up with it because his teacher has power over him because of previously assaulting him? Look, all I'm saying is that Charlie the Sleepwalker was a pretty nasty predator in the end. But it seems he's done that town a favour by taking out a predator of a different kind.

I think that's one tail, but it's trailing off in the distance. I wish the artist had done a rendering of that dork Bastian.* *

    Musical Mondays Off-Week 8 (Kateacola's Pick)

From the always-on point Korea Portal... http://en.koreaporta...tory-reboot.htm It's news that's more than a year old... maybe we can hope it's lost in development hell. Hey, there's a script idea. A bunch of thirty-somethings come together to travel across the country to prevent the reboot (and hence ruination) of their favourite 80's movie franchise... Also - I found this link interesting - modern updates of the characters. Some I like, some, not so much (hint: it's Falcor) http://kotaku.com/the-neverending-story-gets-a-21st-century-makeover-1484611914

No, I am on your side. We love Falcor because he's very clearly a big-ass puppet that Bastian had to physically get up on and act with. CGI dragons won't give us that: little feral Pete is acting with a tennis ball on a stick. Our childhood aesthetic owes a great deal to the Henson Workshop and becoming emotionally invested in socks with ping-pong ball eyes. Lord, the tears I had when Kermit sang 'Rainbow Connection' in the Muppets reboot a few years ago? Criminy.
