Ah, phew, thanks. Really don't want to get into one of those Upstate New York Geographical Faux Pas situations I'm always reading about.

Laughed my ass off at 'sorry i was being a little bitch' to such an extent that I made a genuine scene over here. Oh ye gods...

Episode 156 - xXx: Return of Xander Cage: LIVE!

Okay, here's something that bugged me. When Rory McCann went to crash his car when we first meet him, the graphic said that his longest relationship with anyone was with his "rugby mouthguard", but then when he goes to put the mouthguard in his mouth, it's this: You see that long white thing hanging down at the front? That means it's an American football mouthguard, and that strap is designed to hook on to a helmet. No rugby player would ever be allowed to play with that strap hanging out of their mouth: back when i used to referee youth rugby I used to have to tell kids to cut that strap off their mouthguard if they wanted to play. I just don't get why they made such a stupid mistake - a rugby mouthguard fits entirely in the mouth - and why Rory McCann, as a genuine Irishman, didn't tell them that wasn't what rugby players wore. This film clearly didn't have the research budget Airborne had.

It really depends for me. My youngest is 5 but she's a bit of a fraidycat when it comes to scary things (scary includes anything that's not in full glorious sunshine), and she also gets really embarrassed when characters on screen do something embarrassing, so she's a bit tricky to cater to. Her brother is 7 and likes everything. I try to watch everything before they see it unless I'm sure there won't be too much bad language - we watched 'Sing' the other day sight unseen but that was always going to be pretty benign. My eldest loves superhero movies but some of those can be pretty intense in terms of violence so we try to err on the side of less is more for those. For some superhero movies (like the Avengers) there's so much exposition that they get bored. Generally, as long as it's not filled with F-bombs, I am happy to let my kids decide. And sometimes I decide for them - that's why they both love The Blues Brothers and Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet. #fatheroftheyear

Thanks to you too - not certain I really want to teach at this particular university but the job market is so grim right now that I'm even considering moving to the Land of the Benevolent Dictator. The kids love musicals but we haven't taken them to many big ones yet. They saw 'Seussical' last year which they loved, and 'A Year With Frog and Toad' was a hit too. Now that you mention it, I'm not sure they've seen as many musicals as they have Shakespeares... I'll have to correct that.

Thanks! As tomspanks has informed me, it's in the Finger Lakes! That sounds interesting to me. We'll see.

Nope, kids didn't get to see it - I started watching today when i should have been prepping for a job interview (chill dude it's in like five days I have forever get off my back) and I realised she's probably right in some ways. I think they'd like it to an extent but it's a lot to sit through until you get to Simon Zealotes (which I know they'd dig). Maybe I'll try it with them: they go to Catholic school, it's all going to be familiar (except for Jesus's gammy eye)

15 minutes in and loving this re-watch, and I thought I would flag a point that always heightens my enjoyment of this film: The actor who plays Peter is played by a guy called Philip Toibus, he of the mighty lion's mane haircut: He may be familiar to reality television viewers or people into filth (or both, whatever floats your boat) because after this film Philip became Paul Thomas, legendary pornstar. He's mostly famous now for being a director, and was on a porn-centric reality show years ago. Anyway, always makes me laugh seeing him in there.

That's interesting, because my wife's super religious parents insisted they all watch this (and Godspell) because it was a good pop-culture way in to the gospels. We had a long discussion this morning about whether we should sit our five and seven year olds down to watch this. We haven't settled on an answer yet - she seems to think it won't hold their attention and it's confusing. I think they'll be fine (aside from the crucifixion, although it's not as scary in this film as in the still-with-me trauma of the 'Godspell' crucifixion.)

My association with JCS is similar - I was a stage hand on a production back home in Australia as a favour to my friend who was stage managing it. I hauled sets and managed props and all that junk, and learned every single word of the show in the process. Oh, and Tim Minchin played Pilate in that production.

I don't carry a lot of regrets in this life. One of my regrets, though, is a few years ago, Ted Neely (Jesus from the movie) was on his farewell tour playing the lead in JCS here in Toronto and I didn't go. https://proxy.bigfooty.com/forum/proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FOnzmXp2.png&hash=9a9f7911982a3d80116e2b506402f757

Vocally, absolutely. I have at least five cast recordings of JCS and the movie version is the best.

I picked this gif before I saw Cameron H's gif but I stand by it. AWESOME PICK. I'm very sorry for inadvertently guessing it on letterboxd Cam - I thought maybe when you said I was close that you were going with 'Godspell' but this is way better. Excited!

It's my pleasure! Sorry to inflict this on you - I honestly thought it would have scored a few more supporters, but so be it. Hoping that other picks in the future are as challenging!
