    Episode 154.5 - Minisode 154.5

Back on topic... Who's excited for 'Airborne'? Cameron H seems to suggest on Letterboxd it's the single greatest cinema experience of his life. Any early bets on its quality?

Have you... noticed what forum we're on? That's kind of what we do.

No, sorry, bud. The problem isn't the movie, so much, it's the normalisation of rape culture narrative, where Bond is a 'hero' in that situation because he's too handsome to be culpable. Our world is changing, and Connery's Bond (and arguably others since) are dinosaurs of a time when we were supposed to look the other way at shit like this. We don't live in that generation anymore, so no, we shouldn't ever get over it.

    Yes, agreed. This wasn't cool.

Ugh booo to the incorrect Correction and Omission (about the non-American spelling of 'authorised') making the cut. I didn't end up getting around to the movie so didn't read the thread either: it was kind of fun listening from an outsider's perspective. And I think I'm seeing La La Land tomorrow so skipped MB once more. Excited about Airborne though!

Episode 154 - Highlander II: The Quickening LIVE!

Yes indeed. I'm from Australia, and live in Canada, and in both of those places (as well as Britain) 'Unauthorised' is spelled with an S. That's absolutely an American spelling.

Maybe the bookseller is independently wealthy and does it for the joy of it. He's a philanthrobibliophile.

Musical Mondays-Week 4-Beauty and the Beast

I just re-watched "Ratatouille" today with my kids, and was struck by the inconsistency of accents in there - the rats were all American, as was Linguini, but most of the chefs had stereotypical French English accents. Except, I was thinking, at the moment when the old lady is shooting at Remy with a shotgun and he's shouting (in English) that his brother should swing the chandelier to him, we hear from her perspective that he's squeaking like a rat. So, what do we take from the fact that we hear Remy sounding like Patton Oswalt but when the old lady hears him he sounds like a squeaking rat? Are we to assume that everyone in the kitchen is speaking French (obviously) but we hear it as accented English? In this sense, does this babelfish translator work in the Beauty and the Beast world too? We hear things as we need to hear them to fill out the character, even though we know full well they shouldn't have American accents? This doesn't solve the 'bookseller' issue aside from the fact that the word 'bookseller' in French is 'librarie', and they didn't want viewers to think Belle was getting books from the library (like a frickin' PEASANT), but that she was getting new books from the bookshop? Douglas Adams, you've saved us again.

I have a short list of five films: a few I genuinely love, a few I think fit our demographic a bit better. I think it's also good to base it on the quality of the previous picks - by the time we get to you we may well be desperate for some quality, or if we've had a few good ones in a row, it might be time for a Tommy.

Yeah, I was going to say that you can't do worse than Tommy but that's a statement that we'd come to rue. Or, you can go out of your way to do worse than Tommy. One of these days someone will pick something that's HDTGM-worthy and we'll all suffer en masse.

Which is a spooky coincidence, because the Sebastian Bach thing is an actual thing on the internet...

Good enough for me! It's like in Sarah Ruhl's book 100 Essays I Don't Have Time To Write she talks about getting into arguments with producers who wanted to know the surnames of the characters she'd made in her plays, and how she wouldn't let them assign arbitrary surnames for the sake of promotion. As far as she was concerned, they only had first names because that's how she'd written them.

This article here seems to suggest his name is Adam. http://www.cosmopoli...you-didnt-know/ But, is your reference to the thing I read somewhere that his look was based on Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach? Also, I love knowing Jackie Chan is our Chinese Beast. Also, I loved Tom's use of the term 'champ' just up there. Well played.
