    A) Bratz

    B ) LOL

    C) Abduction

    D) I Know Who Killed Me

    E) Twilight Saga

    F) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze

    G) Masters of the Universe

    H) Hackers

    I) Teen Witch

    J) The Covenant

    K) Solarbabies

    L) The Boy Next Door

    M) Vampire Academy

    N) Grease 2

    O) Airborne

    P) Surf Ninjas

    Q) Sleepwalkers

    R) My Stepmother is an Alien

    S) The Wraith (I think...I'm not sure we ever nailed down their ages)

    T) Garbage Pail Kids

    U) Joyful Noise (I think. It's been awhile since I've listened to the episode and I've never seen the movie)

    V) Sleepaway Camp

(By the way, I thought this would only be, like, a four movie poll)

    Boy Next Door, duh.

I was always buying antique books for old ladies in my town.

  2. To summarize, I respect your opinion CakeBug Tranch but I also respectfully disagree because I LOVE that type of .usic, and still do. The type of music which only flaw (that I think we can all agree) is that it did not aged well (much like my afored mentioned musical taste), But, IMHO, is still a millioon times better than the noises and sound polution we have nowadays (Again, just my opinion that only SOUNDS closed-minded but is really not)

Oh, I'm not one to speak, Max - my favourite eras for music are 1994-1998 or thereabouts, which is entirely to do with the fact that I was finishing high school and starting university in that period. I know full well that there are big problems with bands like Everclear, Bush, Oasis, Luscious Jackson, Elastica, etc etc etc, but I love them because of their connection to what I was going through in that time. The ones I cited above (LFO, Eiffel 65, Lou Bega) are, however, all horrible: compared to what I loved from a decade prior, it's the 'noises and sound pollution' you mention. Okay, maybe not Lou. He's fun.

I only know this song from the Twilight movies, and I don't mind it, really. But, if I had to hear it all the time, I think I would be over it. Even though I only enjoy the Twilight movies ironically, I like how the used this song over the credits of the last one and kind of gave all of the actors their bow - kind of like what Return of the King did for all of the LotR actors.

FORUM QUESTION: If you were getting married tomorrow, what song would you choose for your first dance?

    Most likely, ours would be:

Granted, I have no idea what this dance would look like...lol

Fuck Cameron, I knew there was a reason we were friends. I love First Aid Kit so much...

My wife and I got married in 2001 so I'm certain that our wedding song was either this:

    or this:

It was a terrible time for music.

All this time, I thought it was based on Yentl.

Nope. I was reading the synopsis of 'The Jazz Singer' and I had one of those moments CamB mentions above about the 'Citizen Kane' realizations that everything you've thought was original was just a parody... This quote in particular:

Back at the family home Jack left long ago, the elder Rabinowitz instructs a young student in the traditional cantorial art. Jack appears and tries to explain his point of view, and his love of modern music, but the appalled cantor banishes him: "I never want to see you again — you jazz singer!" As he leaves, Jack makes a prediction: "I came home with a heart full of love, but you don't want to understand. Some day you'll understand, the same as Mama does."

Reading that, I was like, HOLY SHIT, that's that Krusty episode. Never had any clue.

This is all you need to know... he rhymes "things" with "things." It's a part of the chorus.

Hey, since you're getting to know the community - it seems apt that over in our Musical Mondays thread we're watching a Dolly Parton movie this coming week. Come on over, join us, join in! No need for any past experience or knowledge with musicals...

  6. I remember when I watched Citizen Cane for the first time it seeming all oddly familiar. It took me awhile before I realized that 70% of the movie had been done on The Simpsons at some point.

Get ready for 'The Jazz Singer' then - that's directly parodied in the episode 'Like Father, Like Clown', where Krusty longs to be a clown but his father, Rabbi Krustovsky, refuses to acknowledge him.

Weird in that songs I haven't thought about in forever or you would normally think are annoying, people love.

Like 3 hours into an open bar, people are totally down to do the Macarana, or The Chicken Dance. But if you try and mix it up with something "different" (like I have a techno/EDM version of the chicken dance that I've tried to mix into the original) they don't go for.

You also play almost the same songs every week, week after week (Cha Cha Slide Part 2, Footloose, Ice Ice Baby, Baby Got Back, Crank That, Get Low), but then every dance is also different because this bride hates Lady Gaga but that one hates Taylor Swift. So I play a lot of the same songs, but I have to tailor it to their specific needs.

There is also so much down time. I'll roll into a wedding reception 2 hours before it starts to set up. Then I've got nothing to do for an hour, 5 minutes to introduce the wedding party and dinner, then nothing for an hour and half for dinner/cake/toasts, then you have 3 hours of djing.

It's also like, people for the most part don't want to hear new songs (with some exceptions. When Uptown Funk was released I knew it would be one I'd play for years, but 24k Magic, not so much.) People seemingly want to dance to music that they know and spark some sort of nostalgia. It's a trick of knowing what to play and what not to.

I think there is a reason why in movies (and TV shows), you more often see a band at a wedding and a DJ at a school. There is something inherent about seeing a band do covers vs a DJ doing something new or unique like mixing.

  8. WHAT?!? I don't care if they're a bunch of basic b's what Sasha says is just ridiculous and totally uncalled for! Again, a healthy bit of confidence is fine, but straight up insulting them with no provocation is bullshit. The head cheerleader wasnt being insulting or condescending. She was just setting an expectation. And for that, and nothing more, Sasha acts like a fucking asshole.

If I were the head cheerleader, I would have been like, "You might have the skillz 2 pay the billz, but I don't like you, I don't want to hang out with you, and I don't want you on the team."

Hey, Bratz gonna brat, you can't hold them down.

She is such a jerk to them!

    What she says is RIDICULOUS.

If you don't want to re-watch she says "Girl I brought it, nailed it, lent it to my best friend's kid sister, and I borrowed it back while you were still figuring out the beat." What!?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qNFbdZ61qM

Again, as Tom says, the group routine they show off with is so terrible (and filled with sloppy mistakes) but they act like they're right off the set of 'Bring it On'. They're more like the cheerleaders in 'The Replacements'. I think they get what they deserve.

  10. That's a bummer. Is there another night we can change it to? Saturday?

No, Friday-Sunday I'm home, so that's family attention time. I'm not going to subject Meg to Old Dogs on one of my few nights home each week...

Midweek is another matter, but please don't change anything on my account, particularly for Old Dogs. Guys, I really hate Old Dogs.

  11. I'm driving back from NY on Friday nights, so sadly I'm likely out of the Classics fun for the foreseeable future.

The GREAT news, though, is that I won't have to watch 'Old Dogs' again! Hooray! Good luck guys. I look forward to your commentary.

PS - the 'Season of the Witch' ep came out from behind the paywall this week so i listened to it when it emerged. Holds up pretty well: my favourite part is them making fun of the trailers of the terrible movies that preceded 'Season', one of which was 'Limitless' which wound up being a big hit.
