Episode 219 - Drop Dead Fred: LIVE! (w/ Casey Wilson)
chumpmonkey replied to SlidePocket's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I hate to disagree with Jason and June, but I am honestly astonished that ANYONE liked Drop Dead Fred! I couldn't find a single redeeming quality in the entire movie! I found myself checking every few minutes to see how much of the film I still had to get through, because it was so boring! Several scenes were drawn out MUCH longer than necessary, particularly the flashback where Fred and young Elizabeth cause the parents to believe a burglar was breaking into their house in the middle of the night. Even the acting, though a few of these actors have done fine work elsewhere, was painfully stilted and awkward! And am I the only one who found Mickey just... off-putting in every conceivable way? And worst of all for a comedy, I didn't... laugh... once. On the other hand, this episode of the podcast was one of the most entertaining ones I've heard! -
Sorry if this has already been pointed out: In the final shot of the film, yes, anyone can clearly see the dolphins are badly superimposed over the footage of the actors, but did you guys notice, they didn't even bother to film both dolphins? They filmed one dolphin, and copy/paste/flipped it to get the other dolphin. Through the whole action of them rising up, they, complete with the water splashes, are a perfect mirror image of each other!

It seems to me that the biggest fundamental flaw with Gamer is this: It seems to be trying to serve as an indictment of the kind of sleazy douchebag guys who would think it would be really cool to be able to control another human being, making him kill other people, or forcing women to do degrading sexual things. Yet, the style of the film, with all its violence, gratuitous nudity, even the obnoxious soundtrack, makes it the kind of movie that appeals to that exact kind of douchebag!

Another annoying movie trope Dreamcatcher uses that you guys skipped mentioning: In all the flashbacks, they communicate to us that the kids are younger versions of the protagonists by having them use the same catchphrases we hear the adult versions of the characters using, in case we're too stupid to figure that out just by them all having the same hairstyles and THE SAME NAMES! Do you still use all the same expressions you used when you were a kid? I bet you don't. I don't. Because adult me realizes that the things kids say are usually stupid.
