Episode 240: Megaforce LIVE from Montreal!
samtrano replied to theworstbuddhist's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Even for a live episode one was especially visuals-focused. What I gathered was that Megaforce was created collectively by the the governments of the world basically to enforce the status quo. There was a leftist uprising in Gamibia(?) and the Che guy sells his expertise to lead. He doesn't care about the cause (he doesn't even speak the language), just the money. The heroes of the movie are trying to crush this revolution because leftist revolutions upset the balance of power. -
The police go after the problematic minstrel-y gang when the rabbit says they cheated him at dice

There was a lot of insane stuff in this movie they didn't have time to discuss, like the 2 dimensional sets and the sketchy, half-finished-looking animations that would fly by. There's exposition happening and suddenly a cartoon dog with sunglasses materializes and makes goofy noises. Incidentally when I was looking for that screenshot I saw there's a short part in Holly's house where Brad Pitt looks in a funhouse mirror and it distorts him to have the a similar look as he does at the end when he becomes a cartoon. That's called foreshadowing and it means this movie is art. Do we think Brad Pitt's horrible acting was due to having nothing to act against? He was still pretty bad when the other human was around

Episode 214 - Hercules: LIVE! (w/ Leslye Headland, Sasheer Zamata)

This is a case where the terrible film was actually right and the podcast was wrong. It actually is "Pandora's jar". The wikipedia page has a section on why we say box: Also, regarding the movie getting myths confused, there is a precedent for rainbow bridges, but not in Greek myth. Norse mythology has a rainbow bridge connecting Earth and where the gods live. -
Chaplin talks in The Great Dictator, so the kazoo is definitely not the only time his "voice" has been on film

It was the 80s, so he was probably planning to listen to girls shower or something -

They talk up Stamos training in gymnastics for this film but realistically there's very little he could have learned in a few months. Anything more complicated than a flip on the trampoline was shot from far away or with his back to the camera -

A correction for Jason: He says the wrestlers just came out of nowhere and weren't sharing space with the gymnasts but that is not true. During the montage where they play the Stargrove song, in the background you can see someone set up a mat on the spring floor for some reason and two guys are wrestling on it. There's no reason for them to be doing this here on the specialized gymnastics equipment when all they need is a floor, but it sets up the next shot where they watch Stargrove on the trampoline, which is also on the spring floor for unknown reasons. -
Came here to mention this. Here's a good visual depiction

"This performance by Burt Reynolds is the closest we'll ever get to seeing a real-life personification of the KFC mascot, Colonel Sanders" .. .. You know, besides the real-life man, Colonel Sanders

Just wanted to bring attention to this because that actually looked like quite a dangerous stunt, the guy actually gets hit by another bike

They spent enough time showing him try to get the backflip that I was sure it would turn into a Big Thing that would help him Win The Race but that turned out to be nothing. He does a backflip but still only won because Bart stopped to let him catch up. In the same vein it was weird how much of his preparation was doing tricks when the actual event was a race. Random thoughts: - Based on the name and hype, I was expecting Hell Track to be more like The Running Man - I thought the diner he worked at would sponsor him - It's very rude that he rides his bike through other peoples' lawns, ruining their grass - Everyone in the town lives a life so regimented that he can time his paper delivery down to the minute - The parade they threw before the race was really boring, just a bunch of cars driving down the road - Lori's dress at the dance was like some Klaus Nomi stuff - $11 million budget and they couldn't stop cars from driving around in the background of shots? - Movie presumes you only have one year to get into college and then you're out of luck forever - All those last-minute rule changes would surely be illegal

Episode 170 - How Ann Coulter and Milo Yiannopoulos Are Playing You

It wasn't just "some guy" saying people would have to choose between healthcare and an iPhone, it was a sitting US Representative trying to pass the bill that would greatly increase the difficulty for poor people to get healthcare. Pargin was really reaching this time to push his "calm down, nothing is as bad as it seems" schtick
