Okay, so we are like the same person. This is literally my favorite musical of all time period. I've done it once (as Henry) and have long wanted to direct it (I have a crazy idea about how I would change up the traditional instrumentation). I cannot wait to discuss this film with people who have never seen it and people who have.

Because I can't sleep and I'm off today...I'm on early! It's a movie that took 5 years to release, directed by a man who made some of the best comedies (and some of the worst films) I've ever seen (two of his films I would consider Canon-worthy). It was recut by an Oscar winning director. It stars a Tony award winning actor and a New Kid (on the block). It holds an impressive 50% on Rotton tomatoes. It is based on the longest running off-Broadway musical of all time. It is my favorite musical of all time. I give to you my pick...it's FANTASTIC!

Yesterday on my drive home (it's about 15 mins) I ended up listening to TTYD like three times in a row (I wanted to listen to the album on Spotify and instead got the song on a loop before I got to a stop sign and could change it). It's a fucking depressing song lyrically as is the second song by the Wonders on the soundtrack, LIttle Wild One. Basically, ifi you look at at the lyrics of specifically those two songs and imagine Jimmy wrote them, it makes sense he was a horrible boyfriend to Faye. He's a misogynist jerk that blames the girl for being a slut and walking out on him.

It doesnt bother me, mainly because i read between the lines and knew they would end up together in the end. Out of curiosity why didn't TES become the next big thing? He was clearly posed to; he had the dumb frat comedy (Dead Man on Campus), the "prestige" horror flick (American Werewolf in Paris), the romantic comedy (TTYD) and the heavy drama with Meryl Streep, William Hurt and Renee Zwelleger. And yest he never became the superstar that Hollywood wanted him to be.

We talked about how good TES and Liv Tyler are but Steve Zahn is just pitch note perfect. Between his comic delivery. And Hank's dorection every scene he is in just well sings. Even little things like how he grins when Guy picks up tje tempo at the talent show are just perfect. In fact i don't think there is one bit of bad or miscasting in this.

I totally get what you are saying Cameron. Like i said as much as I'd want to be Guy (or honestly Lenny. I knew i could never be as cool as Guy but i figured i could be Lenny) I know i would be Jimmy. When a play i wrote went up in my town by my community theater i got frustrated that the director wasnt directing and the actors were messing around. It was a play that was important to me and when the actors were messing around i would get frustrated but not show it. Yeah the praise was nice and sip was the money but if I had the chance I would totally do it over and different.

First i just noticed my typo "assualts" instead of "adults" and yet it fits lol My impression is since most guys enter the service out of HS in order to pay for college, TB would have just graduated. I assumed Lenny and Jimmy were in college (possibly first year finished) and Guy was older due to his military service (think you sign up for a minimum of 4 years) and the fact he was doing the books for his dad's store suggested some college. I think that also due to Guy's love of jazz makes him seem older. On the other hand Lenny seems to know him better then Jimmy and TB (knows uncle Bob (my best friends kids call me uncle Bob) and I wish i was as cool as Issak in this film) and knows Guy plays drums whereas Jimmy seems skeptical. So who knows

I am at work so i dont have a lot of time so I will get into my deeper thoughts later. But I really love this movie. On tje We Hate Movies podcast they sometimes refer to films as "hang over films" and that is where this falls for me. It is a movie that I can watch anytime it is on. Jimmy is an ass but i relate to him. I see the Wonders as sort of the same as community theater, you have a few that are super talented, those who take it super serious and those that just want to have fun. I am one that takes it very seriously and would probably be Jimmy even if i want to be Guy. I always assumed that the assaults doing the negotiations went to Guy because he was older then the others so they would default to him. I genuinely love this movie.

GREAT movie. It was on my list, not for first round by second or third possibly. I love this movie so much.

Watching American Gods (and loving it) I haven't watched a single season of Fargo (but know I need to) I don't remember anything about the original Twin Peaks except that Fire Walk With Me is weird as hell, so I don't know if I'll watch that or not.

My childhood memories were all over the place on this one. For example, I had forgotten that Fivel gets separated from his family on the boat, during that storm (featuring demon waves!). I somehow thought they all got to America and then something something happens and he gets separated. This movie, IIRC (and trust me I'm doubting my memories on this LOL) came out around the time the Statue of Liberty remodel was being finished with a lot of focus on the SoL and the immigrant experience. It was also the Reagan/America Fuck Yeah! time, so I'm sure this was viewed (or is viewed) as a very pro-"conservative" film. But Fivel, our hero, is an illegal immigrant and a refugee. It's an oddly prescient film. Also that 2D animation is stunning. Not to knock on Disney, but it's a lot better then what Disney was doing at the time.

I havemt seen this movie since i saw it in the theaters. This will be a walk down memory lane.

I concur. I had been resisting watching Repo for a long time and although I didn't care for it, I'm glad I watched it. I think it was an interesting experiment.
