Unlike his version of Hamlet (which included every single word), Brangaugh cut this play pretty liberally. I don't think it's necessary.

I'm surprised that Timothy Spall gets listed up at the top, I mean before Harry Potter, I probably couldn't have told you who Timothy Spall was. I think AFTER Harry Potter people would have a hard time knowing who Timothy Spall is (especially since he's not even on the poster)

Circling back to this Patricia Resnick wrote 9-to-5. The co-writer on this, Tom Schulman wrote Dead Poet's Society. Tom Schulman sold the rights to Dead Poets Society on the SAME DAY he sold the rights to Second Sight.

well then I have no explanation. I just assumed it was different. Maybe they were hoping that no body in the neighborhood would remember her. And that all the school board members were out of town that day. And don't read the newspaper. My best guess is that this was a Die Hard With A Vengeance situation, where they took a pre-exisiting script and did a quick polish to make it about Whoopi and friends.

Also can we just talk about how this sweet, almost saccharine movie was directed by legendary tough guy BILL DUKE! (it was also the first major Hollywood sequel to be directed by an African-American. I wonder if that was Whoppi's influence?)

I just checked Wikipedia, both films take place in San Fran, the first was St Katherine's Parish, the second St Francis Academy

I don't think it's the same church from the first movie. I think the nuns transferred to this dying school in...Los Angeles? San Fransisco? But the impression I had was that it was in a different city

There was an episode of I WAS THERE TOO with Alanna Ubach a couple of months ago (like maybe 6 months?) I never finished it but I remember it being interesting as far as I got into it. EDIT: looked it up, it came out Aug 30 and it looks like it was regarding Legally Blonde I'm not sure what else they talked about but I'm going to go revisit this ep.

I don't know about Catholic school, but I have some friends that worked at a private Evangelical Christian school and they don't have to be. It's...weird. hmmm I need to rewatch the last section then, because I don't remember it. I could totally be wrong here, it just has always felt to me like it was done on the fly to show how "hip" the kids are coupled with "take your robes off" line

It struck me as being on the fly because a) the stuffy school was doing their song and then Whoopi tells them to get out of their tradtional choral robes (which the community raised money to buy for them. Whatta slap to the face to those that supported them to get there )

oh man I can't wait to break this down with you guys. This movie is weird. It's silly. It makes no sense. (like on the fly the totally rearranged their closing number with choreography, rap breaks, new lighting, etc) but it's a lot of fun

I think it could be argued that Hamm, Berenthal, Foxx represent the older Gen Xers who have this anger and sometimes rage toward the "millennials" represented by Baby, even though the music he listened to was more evocative of the music they listened to. You basically have 4 generations here (Spacy as the Boomer, Hamm/Berenthal/Foxx as the Xers, Gonzalez as the Oregon Trailer, and Baby as the millennial) and how each relates to each other.

I loved this movie when I saw it this past summer but I wouldn't have thought about it as a musical, but you know what, it totally works as a "musical" in that the music helps tell the story of Baby. Interesting pick for "musical mondays" but I loved viewing it through a different lens.

Ugh real life got ahold of me but I am back. I hope.

I HAD to to try and make sense of this movie.
