As someone who’s around the age of all these characters, I feel like I’ve met all these people, some I’ve interacted with recently. Many will classify The Breakfast Club as a teen comedy but I look at it more as a character study. Hughes takes his time breaking down our five main characters piece by piece. At the core of The Breakfast Club is a film about identity. All of the characters are putting up a facade and which are slowly stripped down. By the end all of them revealed their true selves. As soon as the credits roll, I was left with a question, “when Monday rolls around, will those facade’s come back up?”. I think it’s interesting how we never got a sequel or something equivalent to Fuller House. We will never know how they turn out or if those facade’s stayed up. Hopefully that all made sense.

So you’re one of those types of people? Someone who doesn’t think something is cinema because it doesn’t appeal to what they like? Last I time I checked cinema is pretty much anything recordered or filmed on a camera. But what do I know?

Is it against Cannon Law to love Umbrellas of Cherbourg and La La Land?

Is it just me or did Russ sound like he was on the verge of tears at the beginning of the episode?

I’m in an interesting position on this vote. If I’m voting on performances then I go with Driving Miss Daisy. But if I’m voting on overall enjoyment then I’m going with Field of Dreams. I don’t particularly care for both of these movies, but at the very least I like Field of Dreams. I personally found Driving Miss Daisy kind of boring even though the performance are better. If I could vote for nether I would, but I guess I gotta go with Field of Dreams.

The Florida Project- This is by far my least favorite out of all the films on here. It’s not a bad movie by no means but has tons of problems to it’s repetitive story telling, frankly bad editing at times, and that damn ending. Lady Bird- Even though I didn’t go crazy for this film, I do understand why people love it. Almost all the performances are great and the script by Greta Gerwig was very good. My one major problem is I felt the pacing was off. Get Out- Now this is a film that just grows on me. I’ve seen it twice now and it gets better and better. Even if you don’t pick up on the films metaphors, it’s still just a great thriller. If Get Out wins I’ll be fine. The Last Jedi- I was shocked by how much I loved The Last Jedi. This is a blockbuster that deconstructs the Star Wars fandom while giving us the Star Wars moments we all want. mother!- This is my vote for the poll. I went into this film completely blind and I never would have guessed where the film goes. At one point I felt like Aronofsky could do anything and he does. You couldn’t tell this story in any other format besides cinema. The experience would never cross over onto the stage or page. mother! is an explosion of anger and ideas and God bless Paramount for letting Aronofsky make his crazy vision come to life.

There are sometimes, very rarely, a guest brings a film to the Canon where I don’t understand why. Nothing against Mr. Weber, but why?

As someone who doesn’t like Robocop that much, this is the best vote ever.

Can we please stop using the Cannibal Holocaust the exuse. Cannibal Holocaust is simply a more influential and important film in the horror genre than The Brood. Even as someone who loves Cronenberg, I can’t deny how bland and boring The Brood was. It has many interesting ideas, but it’s simply not executed well. Even in terms of Cronenberg and not in the horror genre as a whole, I would still say it’s not Canon worthy. I would much rather have something like Videodrome or A History of Violence in the Canon than The Brood.

I think in our current political climate, this would make an excellent discussion.

These two films are Sofia Coppola's best films. Both deal with the idea of women being trapped.

I would love to see this versus. Both films explore homosexuality but through different lenses. One is about females while the other is about males. I think these films would lead to interesting discussions about how the portray homosexuality and their place in society.
