YOU'RE a bus from the 80s

If I travelled from Chicago to sit in on a taping, and June was not there, my brains would end up splattered all over that shoe wall.

Sidebar: when the damn hell did the outro change???? (Clearly I never listen through the last commercial, but I am still outraged to have lost the The Wolf Dead sting) -
EPISODE 120 - Masters of the Universe

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE -
LOVE that the current Scottypedia pic is a random insane Ghostbusters costume shot that I have no context for (and never want to).
-
The "you" I meant in that case was more "Midroll Media". I definitely wrote that post as a cranky response to Shannon's phrasing, but I realize that ultimately it comes down to larger business decisions that even Scott is probably not a chief force behind, let alone a customer rep. The freemium model of charging for expanded content--but then still including ads--is a strategy that probably works to get max revenue, I'm just not inspired to be supportive.
-
Yeah. Personally I don't enjoy any hosts solo ad-reads enough to want to hear them. I wouldn't normally complain about that (and really I'm not complaining--I get that ads are a necessary part of free content), but I would indeed pay $10 a month to not have to hear even 2 seconds of Scott talking about Lisa mattresses or whatever. That may not be typical.

Hello, I think people (who are reading this far into a thread at least) probably do understand this concept that has been stated multiple times. I wonder though if you're understanding the other point of view, which is that the content could be delivered to paid users without ads whether it's "new" or "old". It might not make sense with your current logistical set up, but it is definitely physically possible. Lots of services deliver content with ads to some consumers and without ads to others. You could have a "free edit" of episodes and a "premium edit" of episodes at the same time. Obviously Midroll can decide that this isn't worth the labour, as it may not be; I was just expressing that without that benefit the paid service is not appealing to me, and to be honest I do think I represent a reasonable segment of the potential user group (but certainly with no real knowledge of how big that segment is). Whether this is important is up to you, I just hope you do consider it and don't mistake it for confusion on the user end.

3... My daughter married WHO???? So, so amazing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this was your thinking: -Theres a precedent for shows putting their back catalogue behind a paywall, to encourage people to donate or subscribe. -If shows with ads use that model, you might as well also make that now pay-walled content ad free, as this can be done with affecting your free content. -New shows will keep the ads because its easier than producing two versions and because... something something ad impressions something something metrics jargon. The trouble is, the expectation has been set by a majority of other subscription services that those on the paid tier wont have to deal with ads. When I pay for Netflix, I dont have to watch ads--and that includes brand new shows. However, when I stream @Midnight online, I put up with ads. When I pay to upgrade from the free version of an app, it cuts out the ads. When I listen to a free podcast, I listen to someone ramble about Audible for the 800,0000,000 time. When I pay for a podcast, I'm not excited to still hear ads--and if I just wanted an insurmountable pile of new shows, there's frankly a lot of other places to find that. So for people like me who dont have time for buckets of new content, and just want enhanced content (so I can enjoy staples like CBB and HDTGM even more), there isnt much draw here. I want to support you guys, but the fact that the main feature I assumed would be offered is in fact not offered (on the most relevant content) is a sad dissappointment. I hope you'll reconsider. -David. PS sorry to have unironically said "content" that many times.
-
There wouldn't be two edits, one for each service tier? And the ad free content is just old content Ive already heard? That really makes that feature moot, and it was the feature I was interested in. This may have been explained already, but it does not make sense, and is not in line with how subscriptions services typically work.
-
Soooo I signed up for a trial, and Im not finding the supposed ad-free "remastered" episodes. Are they not loaded yet, or is that a glitch, or...? (Specifically I was trying to play HDTGM) Ad-free content with a well functioning player I would totally pay for, but so far Howl seems like a messsy messsssy launch. :-(

EPISODE 203 — Bitter Beer Face
SeveralCircles replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
It breaks my heart that Craig's podcast got podcancelled. I still relisten to back episodes to fall asleep often. So it was fun to have this Its That Episode... reunion? If thats what it was. Or even if thats not what it was, whatever, dont tell me what to do. Anyway I suggest listening to D'Arcy and Jill's episodes. -

Jay Mizzle needs to do an episode of his Chardonnay Pod-onnay with (special) guest Lauren Lapkus. -
I don't know if I would personally convert to a different, network-specific app anyway, but just FYI for me (and I imagine other people) the lack of a sleep timer is a dealbreaker. I realize the app is still a work in progress, just putting it out there that's an essential feature to get to at some point. :-)

Nooooooo I love that episode! Glad I recently relistened. I hope Paul Rust at least comes back. Funny that the minisode calling it a failure is still up. Might as well nix that too, JD.

As a Canadian I definitely thought "this is notably odd..????"

I know Heynong Man is like a big deal and all, but what I really want is a Big Ups 2POASAS shirt. Also: "Jinx, you owe me a Durst!" But that's a different show.
-
But sorry; don't let me tell anyone they might have done something wrong. Please, continue telling Scott Aukerman and his friends all the things they did that were wrong. Because complaining is 100% fine if it's about someone else and 100% a dick move if it's about you.
-
It's not about forum systems and mods and whatever internet rules. It's about actual basic human empathy. My point is: I think if many of you had more of an idea of how it feels to have people every week passionately share their opinion of how the free thing you did was bad, you'd stop adding to the pile--and maybe feel embarrassed that you ever did.
-
As someone who writes web articles, I still find it irritating to see people's abrasive dumb opinions on how this weeks design tips are wrong, or forgot this or that, or whatever complaining thing, even though there's someone with a problem every single week. It gets less irritating, but it's still irritating--and I at least get paid for that. Having a complaint and not sharing it is actually a totally acceptable option sometimes. Sorry to oppress everyone's free speech or whatever though. (And PS coming here to say "I always hate Jimmy Pardo" and such isn't even commenting on the episode. So it's not within the "point" of this forum either way.)
-
Yeah, we certainly wouldn't want to see the forums be the same every week. This way we get to hear someone decide the guests are objectively bad. Every week. Oh and some discussion of the bits and related topics but yawwwwwnnnnnnn on that stuff.
