That episode of "30 Rock" is on as I write this.

With the exception of "The Conversation," that is startlingly dead-on as well. Although "Youth Without Youth" was actually an adaptation, albeit of a rather obscure novella. I have no idea how faithful the movie is, though.

AKA the "bullet time" effect.

According to the Razzies movie guide, on the publicity tour for the movie, Melanie Griffith responded to a reporter's question about the Holocaust with, and I quote, "Wow! Six million... that's a lot of people!" Their response is perfect: "Is 'Shining Through' what happens when you hold a flashlight up to one of Ms. Griffith's ears?"

From what I saw on "Ellen," the worst part isn't anything on-screen (which looked to mostly just be Kanye and Kim on a motorcycle, ignoring most basic traffic laws). The worst part was the music, which was so schizophrenic that I wondered if he couldn't decide what key or melody the song should use, so he chose all of them. ETA: Am I the only one who sees "Bound 2" and thinks, "What, a sequel to the lesbian crime film? Why?"

It was kind of slow at times, but overall a decent picture. I'm thinking that if you like Gallo, you're more likely to enjoy the movie. (I generally don't like him, but made the exception for this movie on my "go see most black-and-white movies" policy.)

You know what's depressing? For nearly twenty years, Francis Ford Coppola was taking on mostly "for-the-paycheck" movies to pay off the debts he incurred making "One from the Heart." After "The Rainmaker," he had pretty much paid it all off, and was able to make the movies he wanted to make. Then it took ten years for him to make another movie. It was "Youth Without Youth," a bizarre, confusing mess. Then he made "Tetro," which was good but not great. And now his latest movie is "Twixt," yet another confusing mess. Which means that most likely, the best, most genius films he made were made in the studio system, and the movies he wants to make are mostly bizarre and confusing.

From what I hear, that bit was cut out of the American version. Can't imagine why.- 17 replies

Mission: Impossible 2 (2000)

Two bits of trivia on the IMDb page that, if true, might explain a lot: -
Yeah, but the strongest competition there is, what? "The Rock?"
-
I loved the parody they did of this on "The Critic:"
-
I love that this actually counts as a legitimate complaint.

Oh, sure.

NO.

Are you sure you're not confusing it with "Mother's Day?"

Bruce Campbell talked about his tiny role in his autobiography, "If Chins Could Kill." I've probably said these things two or three times on the Recommendations board, but I'll do it again. 1. He and John Hawkes were flown to Costa Rica and mostly had to wait around. According to Hawkes' AV Club Random Roles, they'd explore the country and occasionally call the studio to make sure they weren't needed. I guess that's one of the perks of having a small role in a movie. 2. After one of his first takes, Bruce was approached by a crew member and told to stick to what the script said. Apparently, John Patrick Shanley's words are considered untouchable by Hollywood, so the actors couldn't even say "um" if the script didn't specify it. Bruce hated this, since all he wanted to do was make minor adjustments so the lines would be more comfortable to say.

How did I miss this thread? Love MST3k and RiffTrax. I've been to all the RiffTrax Live events except one; I always go with my brother (because I can't drive myself there), and he didn't want to go to "Reefer Madness." Which meant that I missed the glorious debut of the "At Your Fingertips" series. (I still haven't seen the show. Dang money!) And I'm kicking myself for missing out on Cinematic Titanic when they came to my freaking city and I didn't go.

The Legend of Hercules AKA Hercules: The Legend Begins (2014)
sillstaw replied to Darian's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
In addition to everything else, the title sucks. I honestly thought this was a thread about the Kevin Sorbo series, and had to look up what the actual title of that series was to alleviate my confusion. I know you're asking why it's called "Hercules" even though it looks like it has nothing to do with the legends, but I'll just say that it's the same reason there are so many things being made now that are based on Frankenstein, Snow White, The Wizard of Oz and whatever fairy tales: It's all in the public domain, which means instant name recognition without having to pay for licensing fees. In fairness, has he really ever been uphill? He's made maybe three or four decent movies and a whole bunch of crap. -
It's actually been on the Bottom 100 sometimes. I love the only bit of trivia on the IMDb page: Don't know if either he or Damon Wayans would be willing to talk about the movie... but it'd be awesome if they did.

Finally, we've found the one movie Jason won't find anything to jerk it to.

Incidentally, on the off chance that they actually did a "L&O: SVU" episode, the only guest I think would be acceptable* is John Mulaney: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLkkYcVVYsQ * Mainly because, since I think they don't want 'characters' as guest, Paul F. Tompkins' Ice-T voice wouldn't be doable.

One of the people I follow on Facebook joked that it looked like the worst launch title for Xbox One. Quite frankly (ha!), I have no idea what the flying things are, why Frankenstein is apparently immortal, how a creature usually known for being made out of reanimated corpse parts manages to be in fighting shape hundreds of years later, why a zombie-esque monster can't manage to look even a tenth as horrifying as Eckhart looked as Two-Face, or why I laughed so hard at this trailer despite there being no jokes in it. Wait... "from the producers of 'Underworld?'" Well, there's my answer.

In this case, the story goes that she agreed to it in a verbal contract, then when she realized how the movie was going to turn out, she tried to back out. However, the example of Kim Basinger (who had agreed to be in "Boxing Helena," backed out, got sued and had to declare bankruptcy to get out of paying over $8 million to the producers) told her it'd probably be better to take the paycheck and appear in some crap than back out and potentially lose millions.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan
sillstaw replied to RyanSz's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
Sadly not unheard of in Hollywood. Kimberly Peirce has discussed how she wanted to make a movie about the murder of a silent film director:
