I've listened to a few HH episodes and thought they were alright, then looked in forum thread and there were about 200 comments from people posting in-jokes and memes at each other. I think it being one of the less popular shows on earwolf has created some very dedicated fans, but this enthusiasm ends up having the effect of being slightly alienating to newcomers.

I'm sure it's something I would get if I persisted more, but I don't really have the need for more podcasts right now.

I think this is a common misconception about HH that gets people scared of listening!

90% of the stuff the hardcore fans are posting aren't really in jokes. In fact Id say the show requires very little knowledge of the handful of running gags since it all stems from a vibe rather than some "lore". Most of what people are posting is just nonsense in the vein of the shows tone.

disagree, tried to listen once because the guest was someone I liked, and it was just not fun for me. Maybe there were too many things that are HH bits, so I was out of the loop? Please give me a quick 5 of your favorite memorable episodes, for comedy sake, and not necessarily for self-referential bits. I want to pick up another earworlf-cast to round out my work week of commutes, but it failed to hook me before

It takes a little while to acclimate to, for sure

, but once you do, whoa boy.

It's hard to pick some eps since the episodes with the strongest pre interview bits aren't necessarily the eps with the best interviews!

Id say episode 5 with PFT is great throughout, so is the John Cochran Ep and the most recent one with Kumail. Scott Aukerman and co ep is legendary, as is "Sean and Hayes our closest friends"

The Erin Gibson episode has a great interview, so does the Gracie helbig episode.

  3. Scott, please go back to doing the ads by yourself!!

Are you kidding? Sean and Hayes were the best part of the episode by far.

Those guys only know one speed and one direction, 100 miles per hour to your funny bone.

If anyone who enjoys Comedy Bang Bang isn't also listening to Hollywood Handbook they're messed up in a bad way.

  4. Solo Bolo?? Time Bobby 3?? are you all being paid by comedy lobbiests or something to vote for these weak ass episodes just because they have CBB favorites in them? there were so many funnier episodes this year, you people disappointment me.

I think last week's picks were way funnier than these episodes, though I will say I loved the Andy Samberg/Todd episode and Wompler's birthday had great people but was way over stuffed.

I agree with almost all of this except I really liked Womplers birthday and Solo Bolo had its moments. Feel like people are always voting for sequels of Classic eps or eps with the most famous guests because they're more recognizable

Also it doesn't even seem like Weirder Scott has flawless taste in CBB eps! Adam Pally as bro was brilliant both times, and I was sad Andy wasnt treated to a third bro sesh. Scott and Andy are giving bro/Pally so much unfair hate, scott even bashed the inclusion of Part II in another best of! So un-chill, bro.

And Hee Hee was a masterpiece! Id take it over any of the more popular high concept episodes from 2014. That's just me though, I love LAUGHTER.

I wondered that too, never really thought about it while the movie was playing because its a constant stream of shit, but thinking about it afterwards I had no fucking idea what she did other then a. it obviously paid well, and b. it involved clients.

    "This is my first time...

    Since my divorce...

    Outside of my clients"

No, its not really weird because Apu is not a real person. Apu is a character that was created by a room of writers. They could had him be an alien from Mars if they wanted. It is a valid criticism because many real-life actors of color become frustrated that white script writers fail to show them with love interests or even families.

Yeah but once again, he does have a family and they focus upon it repeatedly . Theres an episode dedicated to his background before he immigrated, an episode about him getting married/his mother, an episode about him having children, an episode about his infidelity, an episode about him going out of his way to express love to his wife... and thats not even mentioning anything from the last, what, 13 seasons I havent watched? Not to mention the countless episodes where he is presented as a normal member of a group of friends: the Be Sharps,The Pin Pals, He was Lisas hockey coach...

In fact, they definitely focus(ed) on his family and love life more than any other character outside the immediate family. Im not saying that you're not right about the "one-dimensional brown stereotype" on the vast majority of shows, because you are, but you're absolutely (and apparently, wilfully) wrong about this.
