We should definitely be grateful to Harris, because chances are this podcast wouldn't have happened if not for the success of Analyze Phish. That was probably the main thing that led Scott to think of this--not to mention their rapport on the episodes when Scott did it with them.

I agree with you. I don't think what you said is hurtful and unlike the OP, it is genuinely constructive. I also likes Sark's storytelling, and while there are things I like about Blaine's cartoony approach to the game, I enjoyed him more as a player. I confess, this has also dropped down in priority. This podcast used to be appointment listening--I would download and listen almost immediately after it went online. These days, I still listen to every episode but maybe not until a day or two later. That said, I also understand why it is that way. Sark, Sarah, and Gerry can't do the podcast anymore. That sucks. I still enjoy listening, though, and I am glad they are still doing it. Because even if it's not as good as it used to be, and I am hoping SO much that the old gang can get back together again, I still enjoy listening to it. A lot.

Wait--he didn't say you shouldn't listen to people or give them peaceful dialogue about racism. He said,you shouldn't feel like you HAVE to listen and respond with peaceful dialogue about racism. HUGE difference there.

Look, there are far more racist terms than fetish or Cargo Cult. But both of them were at least strongly associated with foreign people of color before they became psychological or sociological terms. And they had racist undertones--exoticizing them and associating them with ignorance and superstition. The fact that terms like these almost always seem to be favored as ways to label things that society finds weird or silly is also very telling.

I wasn't being ironic! I was saying, they took a term that refers to the religious practices of pagans, and were like, "Let's use this term to refer to a sexual preference which we call deviant and weird!" Now maybe you could say that, technically, it refers to things like the Eucharist but you know that the psychologists who coined the term didn't see it that way. They saw it as a weird superstition that ignorant heathens practiced, and saw it as a good analogy for something that was seen as weird and perverted at the time. How is that not racist? And if you are going to base your argument on seeing the term "fetish" as not specifically referencing the religious practices of certain people of color, then it has no basis as a comparison to the term "cargo cult."

I was SOOOOO excited for a Lauren Lapkus podcast. But having Paul F. Tompkins as the guest, it's like having Christmas come twice in one day!

Oh, you'd be surprised how scared white people can get just at the thought of being racist. The real difference is that black people's fear is based on legitimate real-life reasons, whereas white people's fear is based on irrational paranoia.

It's been awhile since I listened to a good Suicide House episode. I had forgotten that every time I hear one I spend a whole week saying "I was working in the lab..." to myself over and over.

It is sad to see a woman rationalize this disgusting behavior while still calling herself a feminist, but unfortunately not surprising. You know, if this whole "gamergate" thing really were about nepotism and whatnot in the gaming industry, it makes zero sense that people would focus their rage on Zoe Quinn. Even if all the accusations are true, all this makes her is a pawn in the system who has literally been screwed over by the industry. All she ever got out of the deal was some publicity for a game that is free. The real anger should be at the MEN in the industry who use their power to get free sex from female developers. Gamers should be angrily threatening them, and decrying them. It makes even less sense that so much of the dialogue includes people calling Zoe Quinn ugly and/or a slut. It makes zero sense, that is, if you assume that the reason for this anger is cronyism or corruption in the game industry. It makes perfect sense if you acknoledge what the REAL reason is. But oh, I'm sorry, maybe there really are two sides to this? Maybe there are reasons, which I'm not seeing, that Zoe Quinn deserves to be the main focus of people's anger.

So excited that we're returning to Suicide House! This is really awesome. Although I am a little disappointed, because it looks like this year's episode won't be as... CREEPY ...as I had hoped. Sorry if this comes off as negative! It's not that I don't love Suicide House. It's just that I really love that Paul Rust guy. Almost as much as he loves chemicals. That guy's name might as well be Walter White, right fellas?

Blaine is a good DM. The problem is just that Sark is a great DM, and we got used to him. I think Blaine is doing a very good job, and there are some things I even think he's better at. Blaine makes funnier and more interesting NPCs. I also like that he often takes a cartoony, Warner Brothers-ish approach to things. But it definitely doesn't come anywhere near the epic feel of Sark's game, where I was frequently on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. If nothing else, it was good because as a player he was able to do a lot more riffing and silliness than he does now that he's a DM. And of course I miss Gerry. Don't forget Gerry! It was definitely better when we had the whole gang, with Sark as DM. Hopefully we will be able to go back to that soon. For the time being, though, I still find it entertaining. I may not be eagerly waiting to download and listen the moment it comes out like before, but I still enjoy it. If you don't like the way things currently are, you can just stop listening and check in from time to time to see if Sark is back.

It mentions that California's are very low, and mentions that Colorado's are even lower per capita. But it also says that Mississippi has the BEST numbers for child vaccinations in the entire country! Has Matt seen this ? I seem to remember him talking about the issue in California, in a case closed segment. But did he also mention that Mississippi is number one? If he did, and I just ha a brain fart and missed that detail, I apologize.

I was so angry at the lack of self-praising lyrics in the commercial that I froze into a catatonic state of rage for several days, and could not read this. Now I see this, and realize how horrible Scott has FLUBBED by SNUBBING the great Benny Schwaz. THERE GO MY WEEKEND PLANS

I don't want to spoil any good surprise jokes... But I've already listened to two thirds of the episode. I've probably heard the interesting parts already. Anyway if I read the first few posts it's usually people commenting before they listen, or on the beginning parts of the podcast." This is what I told myself. Then I read the third post. AAAHHH! I don't know whether I should want this guy to be serious or not. On the one hand, thinking that there is an idiot like this out there who called in, laid down this bullshit, and seriously thought he was putting Andrew in his place, is kind of depressing. On the other hand, it's hilarious.

Why is there no proper warning about Joe being on the show? The episode should have been labeled WARNING: Irish Temper, Italian Attitude. I am appalled at Earwolf's negligence.
