@Conrad Stosz --Yeah, I think that the terrible lyrics are kind of a red-herring for the awful awful singing. You picked two interesting examples of ridiculous or trite lyrics, but one of them happened to be sung by Ernie Isley (a 50+-year soul music veteran) and the other was sung mostly by Glen Goins (P-Funk's best vocalist, hands-up/hands-down). When you sound like Stevie Wonder, you can get away with lyrics like in the song Saturn (barely...). But when you sing like a guy trying to get laid by playing Wish You Were Here in a dorm stairwell, you lose your bad lyrics pass.
