Episode 90 — Sharknado 2: The Second One
seanotron replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Honestly, I almost thought the implication with the Statue of Liberty was that the sharks had chewed her head off. -
DRACULA IS DISPLEASED WITH YOU Seriously though, no, the only thing wrong with this movie is Keanu Reeves, and he actually kind of works anyway because his part is supposed to be that of a bumbling idiot. The effects are deliberately low-grade because Coppola insisted on only using techniques available at the dawn of cinema to give the movie an eerie and unsettling vibe. It's a lot like Hugo, in that it's a kind of love letter to that early era of film making.

This movie was a Canadian co-production, and as we've learned over the years with HDTGM, that's usually a sure sign of problems (sorry Canada). This movie stars Lexa Doig, who has not aged a day since 2001. Seriously. Look her up. SHE DOES NOT AGE.

Thoughts After Viewing "Sharknado 2"
seanotron replied to HotSaucerman's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I dunno, I think seeing Tara Reid's hand bitten off by a shark made it all worthwhile. I mean, guys, those screams of hers? WHAT WAS THAT?! They sounded unearthly. Also her very first line was so mumbly I assumed she had been awakened from a drug-induced coma shortly before shooting the scene. -
Guys, in the first 5 minutes of this movie Tara Reid gets her freakin' hand bitten off by a goddam flying shark.

I'm hoping they told Scott they were doing another Tyler Perry movie and then after he watched it they switched it to Sharknado 2.

After reading that summary, I had but one reaction

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze
seanotron replied to Buttercup Cumbersnatch's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
I agree, I caught them on TV recently and realized that first one is actually kind of trying too hard to be gritty and 'real'. The 3rd one is definitely the most awful and unwatchable (they went from the Henson Creature Shop to some 3rd-tier company and it really showed). The 2nd one seemed like they were embracing the absurdity of it all. Plus it had David Warner, who much like John Hurt is a wonderful actor that will show up to any paying gig, regardless of quality. -

The DirecTV commercials with the marionette people
seanotron posted a topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
I realize this isn't really worthy of an entire episode, but I would absolutely love to know how these commercials got made. They are EXTREMELY DISTURBING. Who is controlling them? Is that human guy really boning that marionette woman? When their son was born did he have strings instead of an umbilical chord? WHAT IS HAPPENING -
Guest Idea: Worst Idea Of All Time Podcast
seanotron replied to gregoryg's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I would definitely say committing to watching Grown Ups 2 every week for a year is The Worst Idea of All Time. -
I do agree Hollywood needs to stop already with the stupid 'We only use 10% of our brains!' garbage. But I also don't think Besson is selling this as realistic in any way, shape or form.

It's Luc Besson, man. His movies are gorgeous visual feasts where plot is usually on the bottom of the to-do list.

I was hoping Victor & Tiny would return some day. Though I wasn't holding my breath based on their well-established dietary habits.

See, I'm actually going to side with Ryan and say I think the first is actually the one I find least re-watchable. It probably comes down to whether you prefer Mad Max as this INCREDIBLY dark, bleak dystopia with plenty of rape & murder or whether you prefer it as essentially a sci-fi western. The first one is really the outlier if you prefer the latter. For example, I think Max's family being killed works better as exposition/backstory than as a major plot point. Plus the first one is kind of a half-step toward dystopia, since there's still essentially a functioning government and Max is basically a police officer. I prefer the 'wild west' aspects of the latter stories, where everyone is just out on their own. Plus I kind of like to fanfic the idea that Tina Turner is actually playing herself in Thunderdome, and the people made her their leader because she was famous.

I'm not saying it's not a crazy movie, or even that it couldn't work for the show. I just think you'd have to do it in the style of Crank or Punisher, where you're basically talking about how balls-to-the-wall it all is. I just know every time I see it I have a good time.

Every time June said Gyeubee it sounded like she was spitting the word out because it was literally distasteful.

This movie was everything that was right about 80's action movies.

I'd say the Trio really went out of there way to engage him but he just wasn't giving a lot. This was really one of the least 'everyone talking over each other' episodes of the show. Nathan is really funny but I just don't think this is a format he thrives in. Plus I got the impression that watching this movie was a really unpleasant experience for him.

I was going to say this myself. I love them together but it's nice to see them solo bolo every once in a while.

That clip is Imogen Poots but she's just speaking in her normal voice. Definitely not trying for an American accent.
-
It is basically a 90s version of Heathers. But I have a soft spot for it. It's kind of like Mean Girls but with actual murder.
