You and I have a different definition for granny panties. That or your granny was pretty progressive.

Interestingly enough, his 2nd wife was in The Fifth Element (she's the blue lady) and he apparently started up the affair with Jovovich on set. And just so everyone feels super uncomfortable, he married that same 2nd wife when she was 16 and he was 33. She claims Leon was inspired by their relationship (which started when she was 15). Now if you'll excuse me, I need to vomit.

I remember Kevin Murphy saying Invasion of the Neptune Men nearly broke everyone on the show, not only because it was so terrible as a movie, but because the director used actual footage of WWII bombing runs in a children's movie.

I am glad that y'all got into some of the thematic inconsistencies in the movie. There are some super interesting concepts in this movie, like the corruption of innocence/children, the dehumanizing effects of drone warfare, etc. but it's all very muddled and confusing in execution. I think that big fight at the end really sends mixed messages, because Robin Williams is basically militarizing the peaceful toys, which you'd think he would be against. I actively dislike Tori Amos, but I kind of dug her weirdo song, even though it's probably just propaganda put out by the toy-making politburo.

No, but that definitely would have been SO UPSETTING were it the case.

I cannot put into words how bummed I am that June couldn't do this one. This was custom-made for a classic JDR character breakdown. Not that I don't love my bros, but the Holy HDTGM Comedy Trinity is not complete without JDR. I was also waiting for someone to describe the final battle as 'Toy 9/11', but it never came.

No no no...he doesn't have sex with Joan Cusack. No one has sex with Joan Cusack. He has sex with Robin Wright (who is a human, not a robot).

Yeah, Netflix suggested it to me after I watched a documentary on horror movies (more fodder for the 'Netflix recommends' thread). It actually was interesting. I don't have anything against Katy Perry, so I went into it without any negative feelings about her. I'm sure it's staged in her favor, but she did come across as a very likable person.

Generally agree, though I think the only thing that would date the Addams Family as a 90s product is the MC Hammer song. Other than that, there's nothing especially 90s about it.

Well, the movie opens and closes with the giant elephant spraying snow over the factory, so that idea is probably not too far afield.

Also, I really hope we get some discussion on those uniforms. Because I feel like those are worth a podcast all by themselves.

I would say that's about right. Because when they do go outside the toy world everything seems relatively normal, like when they go to watch the kids at the arcade and they're all playing fairly standard 1992ish video games. Or Robin Wright's apartment, which other than being a very cool 1930ish art deco complex seems like a normal place. Though in whatever town they are in they apparently do not find the sight of full-sized wind-up military vehicles odd, so interpret that as you will.

Both of their characters are pretty infantilized, but I think the idea was that she's sort of developmentally stunted (Jason will undoubtedly say she's 'on the spectrum'), so someone has to look after her. Plus they're just weird. I mean they basically live in a doll house and their dad is buried under an elephant balloon.

Ok, I am now watching Katy Perry: Part of Me thanks to Howard & Natasha's recommendation. PRAY FOR ME.

Coppola's Dracula is in a similar category to this movie for me. I know they both contain utterly bizarre things, but I love the production designs and they're just so engaging visually that I don't really mind that the plots or acting are bananas.

He actually says Klaatu Barada Nikto!

John Leguizamo tells a story about Seagal attacking him on the set of this movie. Supposedly he laughed at something ridiculous Seagal said and in turn Seagal elbowed him in the stomach and threw him against a wall. Then when Leguizamo started telling the story in his standup, Seagal threatened to sue him.

"Because You Watched..." Netflix suggestions that miss the mark
seanotron replied to PlanBFromOuterSpace's topic in How Did This Get Made?
In case we needed further proof that the suggestion system is wacky I mean, I know Toys is hard to classify, but still
