    The Mothman Prophecies

The movie never directly explains it. It's definitely suggested that they're supernatural or extraterrestrial. I don't remember this movie being especially good, but I do remember finding stretches of it it kind of unnerving/unsettling.

    Episode 239 — New Dad

I was impressed that Jay not only knew Belle & Sebastian, but knew the back catalog well enough to namecheck 'I Fought In A War'.

RE: Millar's excessive use of rape, I always think of this quote from Kevin Smith: "If I were to create a rating system, I wouldn’t even put murder right at the top of the chief offenses. I would put rape right at the top, and assault against women. Because it’s so insanely overused and insulting how much it’s overused in movies as a plot device, a woman in peril. That, to me, is offensive, yet that shit skates. "

No movie containing Nicholas Cage, Holly Hunter, John Goodman, and Frances McDormand is capable of being overrated. In terms of Cage's oeuvre, I'd also recommend Valley Girl, Peggy Sue Got Married, and Leaving Las Vegas. I think those 3 actually show off his range really well.
  5. Only available on DVD, unfortunately.

    Worst ADR

And here's a good one from HDTGM favorite Demolition Man. Apparently, international versions of the movie had to substitute 'Pizza Hut' for all the references to 'Taco Bell'.

    Worst ADR

Back on topic, I don't have any video for it, but I noticed that the Netflix season of Arrested Development had some incredibly bad ADR. At first I thought it was going to be a punchline for something because of how ridiculous it was, but the punchline never came.

    Soul Man (1986)

Def an insane movie, though. And as I said in the previous thread, I really do want to know why JEJ did it.

Me! It's a lot of fun. I think because I grew up on reruns of Mad Movies. How many here have actually MST3K'd a live movie? I saw Daylight in theaters (that would be a good future Stallone episode of HDTGM, by the way) and it was so bad I found myself mocking it out loud. Fortunately, everyone in the theater also found it awful, so we all kind of joined in (probably only 30 people in there on opening night, that should have been an indicator of quality). I also did this during Wicker Man.

Seriously, this is the guy that basically said rape is no different than shooting someone. Though as I understand it, the most objectionable stuff from the comic was excised from the movie script (the rapes & the animal killing).

Worse, it was written by Mark Millar.

That doesn't surprise me that crappy animated movies are made that way. I gather Feig was talking more about watching dailies and realizing jokes don't work, so they'd go back in and ADR something.

Of course there is the infamous 'Flower shop scene' from The Room http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S9Ew3TIeVQ

I was thinking more of mainstream movies just because foreign film dubs are sort of bound to be terrible, but I say post what you like.

I think this happens a lot in comedies. I seem to remember Paul Feig touched on it in an episode of CBB, where he was talking about how comedy scripts go through so many drafts and what ends up being shot is usually a lot different than the page because things that sound good on paper will end up not working during filming. Plus, he said good comedians do so much improv stuff on set that ends up being better than the written jokes.
  16. Are you sure that wasn't some kind of psychological warfare designed to punish the students for not taking the test?
  17. Jeez, that's such a depressing thought. My first experience with him was Peggy Sue Got Married.

    Paranoia (2013)

I have six boners for World's End all by myself! And I don't even know what that means! Seriously though, Hot Fuzz is easily one of my favorite movies of all time.
  19. Yeah, if you're going to nominate a Kubrick film for HDTGM, you're going to need to justify it pretty damn well.

    Dante's Peak (1997)

They definitely were not well matched. There's the age difference, and I think at this time she was in a relationship with Ellen, right? I know it wasn't too long after that she had a breakdown and claimed she was God, so maybe Volcano really is that bad.

    Dante's Peak (1997)

Even though Dante's Peak was the more realistic of the two, I seem to remember enjoying Volcano more. Maybe because it embraced its stupidity so wholeheartedly. I mean, as far as unbelievable scientists go, Anne Heche isn't quite on the level of nuclear physicist Christmas Jones but she's still pretty bad.

I already thought she was awesome, and then I caught that Pulp poster in the background.

    Episode 141.5 — 08/16/13 TWO CHARTED 80

Please let this happen. It would simultaneously be the greatest and most horrible thing to ever take place.

RE: MDMA - I think it has to do with hip-hop and rave/party culture sort of absorbing each other over the last decade, so now it's all been mainstreamed and Miley is just appropriating the hybrid version. If she had been around 20 years ago doing this she'd be singing about chronic. And I imagine it would sound just as awkward.
