Sam Worthington is sooooo boooooooring. I am not sure how he keeps getting roles. And honestly, this movie is so tedious I don't even know if it would make for a good episode.

I'm sure it's possible the movie contains some nice imagery, but it's a nasty piece of business that I will never subject myself to again in order to find out.

God, I hate Gummo SO MUCH. I had friends that insisted I watch it because OMG IT WAS SO AMAZING and well, I am no longer friends with any of them.

See, whatever flaws it may have, I did not find it boring. It's so darn pretty to look at.

Yeah, she was cool. She also spent a lot of time reading trashy romance novels, and I suspect she frequently substituted Wesley in for the love interests.

Episode 179 — Racist Caricatures In Sci-Fi
seanotron replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Yo, Is This Racist?
I think the Ferengi thing is probably more an Unfortunate Implication than an intentional stereotype of Jews. Especially since 99% of the Ferengi episodes (and the fleshing out of their culture) were written by Ira Steven Behr. They were intended as parodies of American Capitalism gone unchecked, but the fact that the most famous Ferengi were played by Jewish actors didn't help. Though it's interesting to note that the very name Ferengi is derived from an Arabic slur for white people/Westerners (feringhee). -
Direct-to-DVD releases aren't that fun to pick apart. This is just a way for The Asylum to cash in on Pacific Rim.

My great-grandmother (who lived to be 99) thought Wesley Snipes was 'the most handsome man' she'd ever seen, and greatly enjoyed his movies when they would run on TV. I have a very fond memory of taking her out to lunch where she then spent some time relating the plot of Passenger 57 to me, which she found riveting (mostly because of Wesley's muscles).

I actually kinda love this movie, but it's absolutely appropriate for the show. Plus June should have a lot to chew on with the feminist themes in the movie. Also, Helen Slater is super hot in it.

Yeah, I would still like to see this happen. This movie was a top rental back in 1995, because it was basically a porn but didn't have the stigma of being labelled as porn.

I was honestly surprised to find out it was that long. It felt like it whizzed by when I saw it. And i think if he'd been left to his own devices it probably wouldn't have been that great, but Nolan and Goyer balanced him out by focusing on the story/character elements.

This is the first of his movies I've actually enjoyed, but he does have a good eye for visuals.

Ok, well this guy beat me to the Duck Tales idea. -
Episode 65 — Howard the Duck: LIVE!
seanotron replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
In the wake of this terrible movie, it's worth remembering that we did have some quality duck-themed entertainment in the 80s. Like Duck Tales, detailing the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his three nephews. We also had Count Duckula, a vampire duck turned vegetarian due to a mishap with ketchup during his resurrection ceremony. Though now I'm getting Jason-like inspiration and just want someone to cut a Howard the Duck trailer to the Duck Tales theme song (with all the scenes of Howard gazing at asses). -
Episode 179 — Racist Caricatures In Sci-Fi
seanotron replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Yo, Is This Racist?
Also, racism does have a presence in Sci-Fi just like it has a presence in every other genre. I think when it pops up in Sci-Fi it tends to be more disappointing because Sci-Fi as a genre is supposed to be forward-thinking and progressive. So when Star Trek normally tries so hard to be non-racist and then manages to be racist anyway (like this episode - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_of_Honor_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation) - ugh, this episode), it ends up being way more disappointing than when some random Syfy movie does it. -

Yeah, it always cracked me up that Johnny Rico from Buenos Aires was played by a white guy named Casper.* *Before anyone jumps on me, I am aware many people in Argentina have lighter-skin and that there's a huge European influence there. -
Jodorowsky's Dune has become legend. It wouldn't have been Dune any more than Lynch's version, but it certainly might have been interesting.

300 accomplishes the interesting feat of being both homoerotic and homophobic (it's also racist and sexist, but one thing at a time). Though I had always assumed the homophobia was more Miller than Snyder.

Henry Cavill was on Graham Norton last night, and he said Warner Brothers made him sign a contract that said he could only eat the food they provided for the duration of the MoS shoot. He also said it took like 5 months to look like that, and that right after they shot this scene Snyder & his wife bought him a large pizza & a tub of ice cream and he basically went into a food coma.

The disputes over how to pronounce gifs are on the level of which way to face the toilet roll or if the open end of the pillowcase should face out or in. It's dangerous territory!

I agree Kelly is giving it his all. The guy had a real zest for life and it always showed. As goofy as this movie is, his dancing in this is amazing (esp for a 68-year-old who wasn't in great health).
