Honestly, if he hasn't used up all his goodwill with me at this point, he never will. I just really love watching Tom Cruise run toward and away from things.

This was on the free movies channel tonight and OMG I FORGOT HOW AMAZING IT WAS. Stallone kills a dude by squishing his testicles and impaling him with a stalactite. That's right, he impales him with the kind that hang FROM THE CEILING. Oh and John Lithgow basically murders everyone Michael Rooker knows right in front of him, while he slow-motion runs toward them.

I liked it. It's a mess, but it's a fun mess to watch (this movie is fucking gorgeous, by the way). And Cruise's Schwarzenegger-ian 'Fuck you, Sally' made me grin like an idiot.

Hey now, let's not get crazy. SNL has pooped out some bad movies but I'd certainly rather watch Wayne's World or The Blues Brothers before this thing.

Shannon, you are among friends. Rant away!

There's also Ghoulies 3: Ghoulies Go To College, where the Ghoulies actually speak. Really, any of these movies is probably worth covering.

I'm not crazy about Get Lucky, it sounds weirdly dated & a bit of a regression for DP (Pharrell doesn't help it). But, there is an amazing cover by a band called Daughter that totally redeems it for me https://soundcloud.com/swedensfinestmusicblog/daughter-get-lucky-daft-punk

I can see what you mean, but I'm personally happy they didn't put Pepper in the refrigerator. That's so overdone in comic stories.

Some of the reviews I've read indicate that the movie is mostly tedious as opposed to egregiously silly, so it may not be that fun to do on the podcast.

I think he's actually attempting to do a southern accent, but that's not what is coming out of his mouth.

It seems that M Night's budgets get bigger while his movies get worse. I held some skepticism about this one right from that first trailer where Will Smith says humans haven't lived on Earth for 1000 years and then immediately says everything on Earth has evolved to kill humans. Huh? Think that one through, Will.

I feel like the movie itself is somehow ashamed of containing Jordana Brewster, because she's essentially absent from all the marketing.

Eli Roth is garbage. Everything he touches is, by extension, garbage. He is Literallyâ„¢* the worst. The only thing I remember about this movie is a terrible sex scene where the characters' skin began to burn or slough off. It was nasty. *Literallyâ„¢ is a registered trademark of HDTGM Enterprises, all rights reserved.

Aww, poor John Singleton. Has he fallen so far that he's now John Singleton of 'Abduction' fame instead of John Singleton of 'Boyz n the Hood' fame or John Singleton of 'Poetic Justice' fame? Admittedly, his 21st Century career is pretty sad when compared to his 20th Century career.

Series of Unfortunate Events
seanotron replied to Archie Liberace's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
Yeah, I thought this film was widely well-received. I can't remember any egregiously bad casting or script decisions. -
I'd rather not see Ween as guests. I think it's because I hate them, but I can't be sure. A great get on this would be Quentin Tarantino. Yes, Quentin Tarantino was a writer on this (though uncredited - who can blame him). Or hell, why not just ask Julia Sweeney. She created a one-woman show based on the misfortunes that followed the release of this film.

Clue is a madcap black comedy. The tone is pretty consistent, IMO. But I agree about the final line.
-
Yeah, I don't think you watched the movie too carefully. The villain deliberately pilots the ship into SF (there's a scene of him telling the computer to plot the course), the Enterprise crew have nothing to do with it.

Not a movie or anything to be covered on the podcast, but I felt my fellow HDTGM fans might enjoy the WTF-ness of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kc7y2R_SSc

This movie is basically The Stepford Kids. It has a great camp factor, which makes it fun to watch. I could see this being a fun episode.

Sleepwalkers (1992)

The adaptation of The Shining was pretty blah, but what do you expect when you hire Steven Weber? -
Sleepwalkers (1992)
seanotron replied to choochoo_the_wonder_slut's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
Well, based on his resume I'd say your gut instinct was dead on. He basically went on to direct 2 more terrible King adaptations (The Stand & The Shining) and that's about it. -

Yeah, adaptations of King's work tend to be all over the place. For every Misery or Carrie you get a few Thinners. Though I don't think his involvement necessarily signals quality one way or another. Lawnmower Man has nothing in common with his story other than the title, and it's pretty god awful. And I don't think he had any involvement in most of those sequels, they just kept slapping his name on them. I just think his more complicated stories don't translate to the screen very well. I heard they want to do a movie version of The Stand, and that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. The miniseries couldn't even cover all that material, so how they plan to do it in a movie is beyond me. -
I think the best rule of thumb on any message board (regardless of the content of your comment) is Wheaton's Law. It's just not that hard.* *That's what she said
