Yeah, I need to amend some of my trash can ratings as I wasn't clear on how that worked either. -
Episode 54 — The Odd Life of Timothy Green
seanotron replied to admin's topic in How Did This Get Made?
If that is something you find frustrating than I'm going to go ahead and say the show probably isn't for you. Because there's a whole lot of that. And this episode is probably one of the least egregious in that regard. -
I wholeheartedly endorse this suggestion. I'm trying to envision the pitch meeting with Tommy Lee Jones.

True, Bruce looks like he is having a hell of a time in this, and that's not something you can say for a lot of his modern era work.

I think we're saying the same thing using different words, but yeah.

Ahh dick pompadour. Ok, missed that. It is a fundamentally silly movie, but it is also a massively entertaining movie. I believe I saw this in the theater 4, possibly 5 times. I was going to call it eye candy but it's more like eye drugs, like injecting the LSD directly into your eyeballs.

Well, not speaking in defense of the movie but in defense of the...idea, as it were, I think they were trying to avoid tying anything up in a nice little bow and were basically saying, 'This happens all the time and there's no easy fix for it.' It's clumsy and awkward in execution but in theory I get the concept.

I will only accept this as a candidate if we start the podcast by announcing it as The Greatest Movie of all Time. Seriously though, how could you have left out Chris Tucker as bisexual radio host Ruby Rod? Because wow. And the fact that Jean Paul Gaultier was the costume designer? This movie is crazy in the best possible way.

And to be fair, Whooch does not have a stellar track record with live shows. The premise just seems to work best in the studio without an audience randomly interjecting.

The funny thing with movies like this that are trying SO hard to be anti-racism is that they usually end up being super racist in some way.

The Happening - (it's never happening, but talk about it if you want)
seanotron replied to temjeito's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
But The Happening didn't have source material to defile. It was an 'original' M Night idea. -
The real question is how they got James Earl Jones to do this. HOW DID THIS GET JONESED? Worth noting that infamous contrarian Armond White is a fan of this film.
-
Yup. It's a fascinating movie if you just treat it as something independent of the original Herbert novels. If you treat it as a straight adaptation it's kind of infuriating. Lynch infamously hates it and refuses to discuss it in interviews. It does feature some of the most beautiful production design I've ever seen.

I will dissent and say I really enjoyed this. But I'm a sucker for Andrew Niccol dystopias. I wouldn't argue that there aren't problems, but I was entertained.

OMG YOU ARE THE GREATEST! No seriously, I had deleted this episode before the brouhaha and was so sad I would never be able to listen to it again.
-
I'm pretty sure it crosses the border into full on racist. But it would definitely be great for the show.

He also likes to blame women for everything. Dude has some issues.

If I were JBW I think I'd be terribly insulted that Paul couldn't tell the difference between her ass and Stallone's ass.

This is a great choice. It is mesmerizing in its terribleness.

Actually, I think Puma Man is probably the worst superhero movie ever. But Steel is pretty bad.
-
Thanks for clarifying that Shannon, I wasn't clear on how that worked.

**SPOILERS** Kingsley is Asian, he's just not Chinese. But I think the twist worked because there was pretty much no way to do that character without it being racist, so they subverted it by making the racism part of the plot. Everyone bought the Mandarin as the big bad because he played up to stereotypes of what a terrorist is. Meanwhile, the real terrorist was a rich white dude. I actually thought that was kind of clever.

Episode 218 — The 4th Anniversary Extravaganza!

Wompler vs Rearden is the Sophie's Choice of CBB. -
I just got back from watching this, and I actually thought it was quite good. Probably the best of the 3. Oh and as someone who has panic attacks, I'd say that while Tony's attacks were revved up a bit for dramatic purposes they were actually pretty accurately portrayed.

Some bits don't work, but I have to agree that this movie is actually more on the good side than the bad side. Nicholson is straight-up Shatnering all over the place.
