The science in this movie about ghosts is garbage! GARBAGE I SAY
-
That's what I thought, but if you re-watch that sequence he's not hunched over at all when the wire hits, and then just a little bit hunched over after everyone is on the ground.

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

I think this means DJ Sheppard watched The Island of Doctor Moreau *sober*, which is very upsetting. -

This is a guy that sometimes turns himself into animals in order to rape women, so I don't think he's what you'd call reasonable to begin with. -
EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!
seanotron replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
It had something to do with Hercules not calling the captain sir, because he goes on to explain that no man is greater than Hercules. Honestly, I figured it was the writer thinking he was being clever because Greece was the birthplace of democracy. I could just picture him at his typewriter thinking to himself, 'Boy, I'd better show people I know history, otherwise they won't take this thing seriously!'. Initially, I thought maybe the idea was Hercules was saying he believed so strongly in direct democracy and rule by the people that he was saying he wouldn't submit to the rigid precepts of a military hierarchy because no man is greater than another, but then he says, 'No man is greater than Hercules' and I realized he's just being a jerk and refuses to show the captain any respect because he's Hercules, which makes the line about being democratic totally pointless. -

I'm in the same age group as you and I have honestly never seen it. But I've also never seen Top Gun, so I know I'm an outlier. I'm sure I've seen most of the key scenes thanks to clip shows, however.

This isn't any of those. This is the one where they're all dancing and the wire winds too tight and snaps and slices everyone in half.

No, but that's a way more specific example. On the other hand, if I said Ghostbusters 2 was just like Harry Potter because they both featured undead villains that needed a child's body to come back to life, I imagine I'd get some solid side eye. The polar bear is white and the Engineer is kinda white (more translucent gray I'd say). Unless you're seeing a similarity beyond a color scheme, I'm going to maintain that it's a tenuous connection. And I never thought Prometheus was a terrible movie, just a movie that doesn't quite work because it's trying to be two different things.

If we're going to make those kind of stretches than I might as well say Prometheus: big white alien and formless black oil Big Hero 6: big white robot and villain with formless black microbot smoke

I don't think it's a terrible movie, but it was definitely a let down after the first one. And it's worth noting that literally no one wanted to make it - Aykroyd, Ramis, Murray & Reitman all thought it was a bad idea. The tone is off and Peter MacNicol's character is basically just Rick Moranis' character all over again, except creepier. There's also a lack of any genuine scares. It's a sort of frustrating near miss that is still very watchable. I think it could make for a fun episode.

The first question I ask myself for any suggestion for the show is, "Will this make for a fun episode?", and the answer on this is a resounding "NO!". I just don't think there's any fun to be mined here, and I don't think anyone is going to enjoy watching it with comedy in mind. It goes beyond "so upsetting".

Pet Sematary and Pet Sematary 2
seanotron replied to Ribelin2000's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
I think the 2nd one would be the one to go with. The first *is* extremely dark but I think it works as a sort of Twilight Zone-y parable about grief and temptation. Fun fact: George Ramero was set to make the original but had to pull out because he was too busy making Monkey Shines. I was right there with you on thinking that situation was a little ridiculous until I moved to a very similar road where truckers (and just about everyone else) also barrel down with seemingly no awareness of the residential setting. I get nervous just checking my mailbox. -
Hey, that pale-faced little girl grew up to be a pale-faced adult named Emily Browning, a.k.a Babydoll.

EPISODE 110 — The Island of Dr. Moreau
seanotron replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
A mild correction, but Matthew Broderick and Penelope Anne Miller talked about Brando using the earpiece on The Freshman, which came out in 1990. So by the time this movie rolled around he had been doing it for quite a while. -
Well, I was generalizing, bit IIRC it's a specialized concoction Harnett's character creates and distributes, so it isn't cocaine (or at least it isn't just cocaine).
-
I think any film that features a scene where all the characters basically snort crystal meth to prove they're human is probably worth talking about.

I need someone to verify if Jake Fogelnest's appearance in this forum is canonical.

Sure, our hero is a sex offender in her mid-40s that sleeps with a teenager, but the teenager is totes crazy so everything is alright! So is there a line of dialog where they establish that the kid is 18?

I wasn't sure if I could trust BatAffleck's assessment, but then he liked his own post and I knew we were in good hands.
