Maybe it's not me for to judge whether he believes what he says, but it's just so difficult to think it's sincere. It seems calculated for controversy, like calling his album Yeezus. And what he's saying doesn't seem radical because I don't think he means it. Maybe he does and I'm being uncharitable, but fuck it. He annoys me for most of the reasons Jeff mentioned and I'm not really willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point. Contrast this song to his "George Bush doesn't care about black people" line, which felt raw and spontaneous and true. New Slaves is like the opposite of that. Shit like this is ridiculous: "I'll move my family out the country / So you can't see where I stay." You know who can't do that? Actual slaves, and people who are actually impoverished. "Fuck you and your Hampton house / I'll fuck your Hampton spouse / Came on her Hampton blouse / And in her Hampton mouth." Is he writing from Ray J's perspective? Give me a fucking break. Slaves, rise up and crush your oppressors by fucking some investment banker's wife. Pretty sure Frederick Douglass said that. Also I'm not hugely familiar with Mike Eagle but from what I know he's way more radical than Kanye, in every sense of the word.
