Episode 111.5 — Bonus Cut: Buy Good Sh*t
JacobCrites replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
The improv doesn't necessarily come from comedic scenarios. Sometimes the fun/challenge is finding comedy in non-comedic things. You're missing the point. -
YEEZUS is THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR!
JacobCrites replied to ben.avila's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
I think a lot of people saw Yeezus as a step down from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which is probably the best rap album of our generation. Not that Yeezus isn't great, but anyway Matt's point is that it's irritating when these huge artists automatically top these "best of" lists when smaller artists that are trying to do cool new things get no recognition. -
Episode 112 — Christmas With The Birthday Boys
JacobCrites replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
With this episode, I would argue that I4H is not just the best podcast in the universe, but the best sketch comedy in the universe period. -
Episode 111.5 — Bonus Cut: Buy Good Sh*t
JacobCrites replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
This was a weird listen (although I was fighting the good fight in the AV Club comments , Matt!) because I buy a lot of albums. I don't get the appeal of only buying one song. Music is about discovery maaaaaaaan. My favorite albums of the year came from Local Natives, the National, Atoms for Peace, Deerhunter (Monomania is by FAR my favorite album of the year), Arcade Fire, Phoenix, MGMT ( incredibly under-rated album), Dragoon and Ducktails. -
I'm trying to narrow down my top ten of the year and it's literally impossible. This year was so fantastic that there are at least 20 absolutely essential listens, and even those were off the top of my head. This year is too good. Anyway we can expand the typical Top 10?

It was in my top 10. One of my most-listened episodes ever.

Episode 108 — I Do Muther-F-N-improv!
JacobCrites replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
So this is the new GOAT. -
The top 5 are pretty much tied, for me: Halfway to China, Time Bobby 2, Fiere Fight, Creeeeeeeeepy Halloween and 4th Anniversary.

Batman Returns is a great film! I just watched it yesterday, actually. Maybe Burton's best movie. Not a great Batman story, maybe, but a fun superhero movies with great performances and amazing cinematography.
-
Just a wonderful episode. June saying "I thought he had just committed so hard to being blind..." is the greatest thing that ever happened. Can we get Ed back for all future Superhero HDTGMs? He was perfect.

Listen guys, I know that it's meta that we're giving criticism about a podcast that sarcastically complimented our criticism and was actually in and of itself an entire meta episode about meta constructive criticism of podcasts and comedy and comedy podcasts but I don't want this to be a forum where we just talk about the criticism of the episode and the criticism of the criticism of the episode and not the episode itself you know?

The Halloween ep was perhaps my episode of the year. And the general consensus is that this is the best year for CBB ever. The only reason there was even a small amount of dissent is because A. Pete Holmes is divisive B. Bret Gelman wasn't in the Halloween ep. But even with that, everyone loved Gabrus and the Halloween ep went down a treat! That's it, really. CBB is perhaps my favorite piece of entertainment in the world. It saddens me that Scott would be so bummed by the reaction to two episodes when the entire year has clearly been an absolute smash. We love Scott and all that he does. And on top of having a consistently brilliant podcast he's had the best TV Comedy of the year.

Episode 105 — Zombie Lisp
JacobCrites replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
Another flawless ep. How is i4H not a TV show yet? -
Episode 252 — The Creeeeeeepy Halloween Special
JacobCrites replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
This was possibly episode of the year for me. And that is saying something considering IT'S BEEN easily the best CBB year ever. Y'all are whack. -
Amber definitely needs to come back. If nothing else to treat us to more of her vocal stylings.

Episode 74 — Halloween III: Season of the Witch
JacobCrites replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
A top 10 contender, this ep. The gang should do guest-less episodes more often. It gave them more opportunities to break into weird tangents and bits. -
Gabrus was definitely fantastic. He's becoming one of my favorite improvisers.
-
Pete Holmes is excited by Pete Holmes. His standup is fine, not particularly distinctive, but well-crafted. But he's a disaster in this format. CBB is an improv show, and Pete is just selfish. The spirit of the show was lost on him, it seemed. Gabrus and Murphy were stuck being one-note stereotypes (albeit hilarious ones) because any time they would attempt to expand on their characters or heighten the scenarios he would be like, "Hey, I wonder what Jerry Seinfeld would say in this situation?" and then burst out into thirty seconds of Joker-laughter, completely derailing anything. I should stop. I hate it when people hate on things that I love and I know a lot of people love Pete Holmes. I think he can be funny--his appearance on HDTGM is a highlight--but he ruined a potentially great episode to me and came across as totally self absorbed. EDIT: Ok, one more thing. Doesn't Pete realize that people haven't been impressed by Robin Williams, Jerry Seinfeld or Al Pacino impressions for like 10 years? How hack is that? And the fact that he insists upon inserting them in every podcast appearance is so insane.
-
God, I just can't take Pete Holmes. He just doesn't collaborate. He has to be the center of attention at all times, find any and every excuse to break into terrible impressions and laugh his face off at his own terrible puns. You've got these great, up-and-coming comedians on the show and he won't let them be funny, because it has to be him.

I've been obsessed with both these guys lately with their incredible work on improv4humans. Amazing stuff on today's CBB. Horatio had probably been the CBB MVP (RIP?) this year aside from PFT.
-
Incredible episode. The characs they built ended up being so unexpectedly dark! I'd love to have them come back in character again, but the opening segment was hilarious as well. Another top 10 contender for the year.

Eeeegah! has always been a favorite of mine. Always been more of a Mike fan, but Joel kills it in this episode. And you can't go wrong with Soul Taker.

Episode 100 — Best of improv4humans Vol. 3
JacobCrites replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
Whereas the past two Best-Ofs were great ways for newcomers to get into the show, this one felt like it was more for the fans. Except for the last sketch, most of these scenes were filled with callbacks. ALSO: We absolutely NEED more behind-the-scenes stuff for favorite sketches. That was so awesome. -
Episode 99 — LIVE from Bumbershoot Pt. 1
JacobCrites replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
We have another Best Episode Ever. That didn't take long. -
The first segment with Scott and Andy was just insanely wonderful. One of the best CBB moments ever. Andy was right: Scott was just on fire.
