  1. Matt should make the show he wants to make. It's insanity to make case closed a different podcast. One of the key things that makes I4H interesting is the many different sources of inspiration; we've had letters from his dead dad, twitter suggestions, YouTube videos, newspaper articles, listener stories, and yes, sometimes music and debates. Even if he does lose listeners due to people not "getting" case closed or the music, eventually he will gain listeners who do like it. When I watch SNL, I know there are going to be certain recurring bits/characters that I don't like. I always hated Wiig's "Target Lady." Just didn't find it funny at all. But I still loved (and still love) SNL because even if there's stuff I don't like, there will eventually be something I do like. That's just the nature of sketch/variety shows. I4H is a sketch show, and it's increasingly becoming sort of a variety show. But it's also this cool, punk rock self-made thing that's totally Matt Besser, and I don't want him to change his vision for the show just because there's a loud group of dissenters. People just like to complain about stuff. Nobody made people listen to that free U2 album but people acted like their rights were violated. And all they did was get free music. So people will complain. It's best to ignore them (most of the time).

  2. Dog Bites Man!!!! Dog Bites Man is one of the funniest shows ever made. It's a part sketch, part improv, part hidden camera show about a shitty news crew. Matt Walsh, Zach Galifianakis, AD Miles, and Andrea Savage. Annnddd the whole series is only $10 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co...h?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Buy it now! Buy it now!

This automatically makes you one of the best people.

According to Zach, there's a deleted scene (which he calls maybe his proudest moment) where he asks one of the leaders of the KKK if he's ever seen Big Mama's House 2.

  3. I'm glad you guys are liking these singer-songwriters. We have reached out to Barry, Ragan, Lucero, and many others. Problem is most these guys, when on tour, don't really have a lot of free time. But I do check out your suggestions.

Any ideas for legitimate blogs that would be interested in our musical episodes? We're sending out a press release this week.

A quick google search brought me to this site: http://twangville.com/

It's a cool blog that has featured a number of the artists you've had on the show, like Cory Branan, Austin Lucas and Jon Snodgrass. Seems like they're pretty legit and have a significant readership. Hope that helps!

  4. The complaints against Case Closed are insane. Matt doesn't force anybody to call in to the show, and doesn't force any of you to listen to it. Sexy Robot even puts a warning before the segment, because she knows you weenies hate it so much. That's right. Weenies.

Also, one case closed segment will often inspire like three or four scenes, and you know what exists? A fast forward button. It's really an astonishing achievement and I would encourage you to seek it out at your earliest convenience.

It bugs me. Improv4Humans is a free show that has brought so much joy to my life. This has been one of the worst years of my life, and stuff like this has inspired me and kept me from losing my mind. There's no good improv comedy in Columbus, Ohio (there's not a lot of good anything that isn't college football) so this show is a gift, and has introduced me to a world of comedy that I didn't even know existed. I'm not trying to suck up here, I just genuinely feel annoyed by people getting all in a tizzy about one segment of a show that they can skip if they want to.

  5. I mean, who didn't get goosebumps at the end when they actually got to go up on stage with Powerline?

Nobody, that's who! Nobody didn't get goosebumps!

I loved that movie so much. When Max slaps that guy in the rat costume and his head flips backwards? Highly comedic stuff, right there.

Also, it has this scene, which is one of the finest ever created:

  6. Also, Pauly had one good point. CALLERS. I called in to the first RSS live broadcast w/ my number 1 pal Joe and we RLLY bombed. It was pretty brutal. Point is, let's bring that back. Or maybe don't mess with the format, IDK. If H + S could just engineer my G D career that would be nice.

You know, I thought once they started having callers on RSS the show went downhill a little bit, and I was glad when they dropped that segment. It felt like a period of the show when they didn't really know what they wanted it to be, and lost confidence in what they were doing. (Maybe just because it took up such a large portion of the show for awhile). However, I can see it being totally awesome with their HH personas; there is much joy to be had in hearing Sean and Hayes be super mean to people for no reason.

    :o

Since the Scotts are likely going to the LA Forum shows, I think I'm going to make the trip and try to see at least two of the shows, in the hopes that perhaps the lads from LA will talk U2 to me (also because I'm a massive U2 fan and have never been able to see them in concert before)

The bigger thing, I think, is the title. Bono has already said they are planning on releasing a second album, Songs of Experience. Does this mean we'll get another album? Does that mean we'll get more UTU2TM?

Any of you peeps planning on going to any of the shows?

  8. Bit the bullet, took the plunge, weez'd the ju oooce. Pauly was fine. No he didn't get it, but it was understandable, and he was really game. He had no problem pulling out the weasle when he saw that it would make people happy, and he gave Cody the proper treatment. It seemed that the more lost he got the more earnestly he tried to dig in and contribute. Very endearing!

I dreamed up a game to get him to understand the concept of the show wherein Sean and Hayes ask him to rate a series of clebrities as being either "weez" or "juice". It's funny in my head.

Cody of course, was absoloute spatch.

He was fine. Not bad, but it was sort of a bummer since the point of it was clearly that he wants to remain relevant in the comedy world of cool young people, and for MY money (of which, to be fair, I have given none) Hollywood Handbook is the coolest young people podcast out there. So basically he came across like a lame weirdo on a cool people podcast. I know that Sean and Hayes says they's nerds, but really they're cool people and we all know it.

  9. Gotta be honest it might be my album of the year.

I'm pretty hip to the young people tunes (I, embarrassingly, am on pitchfork like every two seconds even though their reviews infuriate me) but I just really, really connect with the songs on this album. Probably not the best in terms of creativity (I would give that to Thom Yorke, whose new solo album has his most ambitious non-Radiohead stuff to date) but I think it's my favorite. I'm also with Scott that Coldplay's new album is really, really fantastic. So I'm losing some hipster cred this year. I'll make it up next year I PROMISE

EDIT: I forgot about Run the Jewels. That's def the album of the year. Ignore my previous comment.
