Definitely, listen to how much fun Sean & Hayes have playing off her antagonism, and then how much fun they all together have when she totally gets it.

I definitely love Sean and Hayes on this episode; they seem to take great delight in people not understanding their personas. Schelinger is so antagonistic though, to the point where I had trouble liking her even after she "gets" the show. She also unironically uses the word retarded, which isn't great.

  2. Yeah, good call. As a PSA, I will let everybody know that if you like Hollywood Handbook and have not listened to Sean & Hayes' former podcast, Reality SHOW Show, you are not living your life correctly. It's like having 39 new episodes of Hollywood Handbook. Sometimes I think it's funnier, actually...

You don't have to know anything about reality shows to enjoy the show. But yeah, you do get to see them develop the characters they eventually play on Hollywood Handbook, and the origin of bits such as everything being too scary.

I can't tell if this is one of those Hollywood Handbook type jokes or not...

    This

was the song they were playing in the background right before Scott made that joke. It was originally performed by Michael Jackson, which is probably what Kendrick was referencing in his song.

eh pretty sure kendrick owns the rights to saying "Annie are you OK?" now

not a joke, genuinely love king kunta

  4. Leave it to Hollywood Handbook to start their best-of episode to draw in new listeners with a long, very inside-y bit with Verbatim Vick and a clip featuring callbacks to bits that aren't in the clip. :P

Nah I think this'll be good. If there is a human being in this world who doesn't crack their whole S up hearing Hayes say "Out of his hand...came a friggin web!" I don't hope to meet them.

  5. OK, I'm very disturbed that no one has mentioned the Kendrick Lamar reference Scott made. He said "Annie are you OK?" which is a reference to the best song of the year and my current hype song King Kunta.

On a related note, sounds like Bronson Magnifico and Phranses Phord Coppola are sharin' bars like they got the bottom bunk of a two man cell.

  6. The bigger problem is that Scott Anchorman thinks that just cuz he changed his last name to be the name of a funny movie that makes him a funny guy, which isn't true. I know, because I changed my last name to Cars 2 (that's what the C stands for) and it didn't make me any funnier or even a better driver.

    8. Dave Thomas zoro stuff.

YES. "Is that a movie?" is one of my favorite lines from the show.

Also, yes on the Supergirl trailer. I demand a teaser freezer.

EDIT: ALSO also, I had to relisten to the Sex Doll bit after RanRan brought it up. I was in tears. I can't explain why but Sean saying "Emanuel" is legit hysterical.

  8. I always recommend people start with episode 1. I really do think it perfectly establishes the tone of the show. So ya gotta include the Don Jon teaser freezer. Legitimately one of my favorite segments of comedy ever. Specifically the moment where they dissect the weird editing choice they made that during the "she caught me watching porn" section.

I'm relistening to the show now, and I think a supercut of Hayes and Sean trying to explain the popcorn gallery would be essential. One of the best running gags. If I could only pick one, I'd have to go with Jordan Morris' PCG. "Agreed, Jordan! Agreed!"

EDIT: RanRan nailed it with the doll thing. Truly one of the most hilarious and clearly unplanned moments of the show.

More like Jacob "F" cause that's the grade you get this week!

More like Jacob C "U Later" cause you done messed up boy !

More like Jacob C-is-for-Corn-on-the-Cob, because boy isn't that a nice thing to have in the summertime!

By the way, I also haven't been posting, and the only person who even missed me is my internet son JMonsterface. Speaking of which, I don't care how many of your friends are going, no internet son of mine is going to spend the summer at some sissy dance academy! Boys shouldn't do dancing, it's in the bible. Yeah, go ahead and run off to your room, I was going to send you there anyway. And DON'T SLAM THE....shit. Why did I even have internet kids.

Ya, more like Jacob, C what happens when you don't proof-read your posts?

why are we all dancing around just calling him Jacob C@#$ ?

I mean, honestly, get it over with. I bet Nigel would say it.

    Yeah, more like Jacob Cunt

I rescind the F that I gave to Jacob and give it immediately over to Hayes N Sean.

You don't have to grade to a curve here Joe. They can both get an F!

But I do think JacobC deserves a D+ at the very least

You all have given me a lot to think about.

I guess Aubrey Plaza really was right when she called me a piece of shit.

  10. Update for everyone: I have forgiven Ellie Kemper for that episode. I listened again and it's really good. She still could have played along more with the improv but I've given my approval to the ep. Congrats, Ellie, you're back in.

I think by the time they get to the part where they're pitching projects to her she kind of 'gets' the show and plays along better, but I agree with Freja's (?) post that she came across like 'Um...ew you guys are weird' for most of it.

  11. WHOA let me back up. I in no way meant to downplay the greatness of the classics that we do have. i love you all very much and feel like a real POS (person of shame) right now. Greggy, Chanson, RanRan, Bozos, Joe McGurl, CORPSEFUCKER and co: I am very sorry. I don't expect you to believe me but meant to write 'many' not 'any' but I don't want to go back and edit it and seem like a sneaky weirdo.

please write a lot of mean things about me and maybe even report the post so i get banned. I would deserve it.

I agree that Conan would be great in either form of the show, and Jimmy Pardo is also a friend of the show and an employee of Conan. I assume that his life is just so busy with having to put on 4 shows a week that he isn't inviting more media time into his life, I can't blame him one bit

I can, and will blame him several bits. And now I'm remembering that Conan was on Between Two Ferns.

    This is just outrageous.

  13. Dear Clem Dawg and Hazie Bone:

  14. An all time great episode. It's been awhile (*ahem*) since we've had a group of I4H all-stars.

If I had one suggestion/critique for the show, it would be for Matt to try to find a different way to ask "What does that mean?" for the lyrics. It seems like every musician I've read interviews with talks about how they hate talking about what their songs mean; how they want their work to be open to interpretation. Maybe ask them what it means to to them, or what they were trying to evoke. Not only that, but it seems like the kinds of artists Matt likes write very straightforward (sometimes a little too on-the-nose, if anything), almost narrative-style lyrics. Other than Bazan, I don't think any of the musician's I4H has had have had particularly ambiguous lyrics. I think the songs are pretty obvious in what they "mean." But it might get better stories out of the musicians if you ask what it means to them, or where they were at emotionally when they wrote the song.
