    Grind (2003)

We need to hear the team take on Grind. Just watch this trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9aMBhT28hw

Episode 168 - Hard Ticket to Hawaii: LIVE!

Why did Jade fist fight the bad guy? The heroes had no compunction about killing, so why not just have Rowdy shoot him? Was there a vendetta we didn't see? Or was it that Rowdy was THAT bad a shot? When Edy changes to pick up the guys (for no good reason) why the cut aways to the girl in the pool in the whIte swimsuit? I expected something to happen, but nothing. Not even some trademark Sidaris boobs. Did Stephen Segal pattern himself after Jade? When do we see a remake with Rob Heubel as Rowdy?

Regarding Opening Night, I watched it despite Paul not being in it... And it's pretty good! Thanks for the accidental recommendation!

Episode 167 - Chopping Mall: LIVE!

And it's a problem that would have been pretty easily solved by having the weapons being the result of the military dumping faulty robots intended for combat use on private industry. Probably could have done it with a bit of ADR.

Episode 167 - Chopping Mall: LIVE!

If you didn't know the director was creepy, just check out the remainder of his filmography, which includes putting out softcore films under the names: Jim Wynorski Arch Stanton Noble Henry Jay Andrews Tom Popatopolous Bob E. Brown Harold Blueberry H.R. Blueberry Jamie Wagner Bob Robertson Salvadore Ross J.R. Mandish Andrew James Rob Robertson Sam Pepperman Rip Masters ================ Again, on that weird director tip, In the pizza shop scene, the director put a poster for his first film on the wall behind the characters. ================ Can't believe there was no mention of Suzee Slater's credit: ================ I don't understand how the Protectors got up the escalators. Look at the length of their Johnny 5-like bases. The escalator "stairs" are maybe a 1/4th of that. If you told me they could ride across the edge of several steps with some sort of grip, maybe, but it's pretty clear they are just sitting there riding the escalator up. ================ What's up with the inconsistent strength of the lasers? Sometimes a teen could take three or four hits and keep going, other times one shot would be a killshot. These lasers could cut through solid objects, but bulky sweaters and tight pants provide effective defenses? ================= I can't be the only person weirded out when Michael wipes his mouth after kissing Leslie before talking to her father. So gross.

    Grind (2003)

By the by, it's got two terrible taglines: "Live Fast. Skate Hard. Die Laughing." and "To Air is Awesome"

    Grind (2003)

Giving this a bump. It's spectacularly bad. And it's a guaranteed HDTGM film, since it has extended skateboarding scenes. Plus it has Brian Posehn and Adam Brody, along with cameos by Bobcat Goldwaite, Christopher McDonald, Tom Green, Donald Gibb, Randy Quaid and Dave Foley. It's written by a veteran music supervisor (his only feature writing credit) and the director didn't get another gig for over a decade. And women exist only to wear bikini tops and to be sexually harrassed. It's a wonder with a terrible soundtrack and a number of scenes that make zero sense. Perfect fodder.

    Graffiti Bridge (1990)

Watching this now. It needs the HDTGM treatment. It's so '90s it hurts.
  15. The team covered most of the things I noticed, but still had a few things in my notes. In the chase scene in NY, is it just me or were the motorcycles the cops were riding floating through the sky? maybe it was just bad special effects, but it stood out to me. On the plane, one of the henchmen is woken up by being hit with a smoke ring blown by one of the other bad guys. If this worked, he'd be the most powerful person in the movie, by far. How is it at all possible that no one would notice this purple guy floating in the middle of the cove when the Phantom follows Drax and company into the cave? Besides that, he approaches via the water. Is there any method of transportation less loud than water? I only noticed this while listening to the podcast, but Zane sounds suspiciously like Adam West when playing the Phantom. There is not a superhero with worse clever comebacks than the Phantom. The Phantom: What is this, a ship full of women? Sala: All my pilots are women. The Phantom: Interesting. Excuse me. This film was produced by two of the biggest producers in Hollywood history, Alan Ladd Jr. and Robert Evans. It was obviously their attempt to make a movie of something they enjoyed as kids. Perhaps Kit's terrible job as the Phantom is intended to show how he struggles to live up to his father's expectations (which we see in his hallucinatory conversations)?
  16. I'd argue that Khan was far more powerful at that point than Cranston, so Khan could keep the building from her. It would make sense though to have her realize something is up with the space though.
  17. I was surprised he said the things he said about Baldwin's acting. I also thought he didn't add much to the show.
  18. Is no one listening to June? Khan hypnotized people to think the building's been gone for years, even though he's only been hiding it for a short while.
  19. Even better? Why not have a radio-style narrator provide backstory and segues? (Perhaps Maurice LaMarche doing his best Welles.) It would be faithful to the source material, yet unique, and could help explain what the heck was going on.
  20. No. There's a lot to like about this movie. It just doesn't make much sense.
  21. What is that? Harry Potter?
  22. If you want a truly great ending to this film, as Cranston is being attacked by the knife, it stops, and flies away, circling around to Margot, who has entered the room, and floats at her side. She then joins forces with the Shadow to take on Khan, and they defeat him with their combined mental powers.
  23. And the fact that June was the only one to understand the idea of hypnotism hiding the building was my favorite part! REVENGE OF JUNE!
  24. OK...so about the shadow argument. I was all on board with the idea that the shadow is a legit shadow of Cranston, the only part he couldn't hide. BUT...the part where he enters the hotel, he FLOATS up the stairs, with the shadow moving around like Casper the flipping Ghost! That doesn't work with the idea that his shadow is just his shadow! So now I don't know what to believe.
  25. I admit I don't have a great deal of knowledge of the time period (somewhere between the '20s and '40s) but is it likely that one of the main bridges of New York City would be completely empty when the Shadow takes on those gangsters in that early scene? Maybe back then everyone went to bed at night and there was no nighttime driving? Or is this another The Avengers-style no-extras scene?
