Honestly don't know if this movie is bad or what, but the trailer looks amazing.

Episode 243 - The Peanut Butter Solution
FrancisRizzo3 replied to Wil Dride's topic in How Did This Get Made?
When I heard Jason say "hairshirt" my mind immediately went to the Barenaked Ladies' classic song about gender expectations, "What a Good Boy". These are some of the lyrics" I wake up scared I wake up strange I wake up wondering if anything in my life Is ever gonna change I wake up scared I wake up strange And everything around me stays the same It's the hair shirt I wear And this hair shirt is woven from It's woven from your brown hair Is it possible that one of the preeminent Canadian bands was influenced by one of the preeminent Canadian kids films? -

I was researching the films of Martha Coolidge for my Val Kilmer podcast, and I came across this insane film from 1984. This is such an insanely horny film, about two high school seniors hoping to lose their virginity, one because she thinks she has cancer, and features Michelle Meyrink from Real Genius, Colleen Camp and Christopher Lloyd. It actually has a credit as being based on the famous book The Joy of Sex (which appears in the film, but doesn't really have a plot of any kind.) I can't imagine what Jason would have to say about this movie. It is bonkers.

Non-political alternative to HDTGM?
FrancisRizzo3 replied to FamiliarSort's topic in How Did This Get Made?
You're going to have a hard time finding anything like HDTGM that is either non-political or right-leaning. We live in a world that is actively battling with fascism. People who are as funny as out three hosts are empathic, and they will not be able to ignore the reality around us. And nor should they. -
Toronto show - Governor Gabbi - not available in Canada?

When are we going to get to hear this episode? It's been a really long time. -
FYI, Master of Disguise is available for free on Hoopla, if your library offers that service. What a waste of time it was to watch.

I think you could take the dinner scene with all the characters around the table and edit it in any random order and get an equally coherent scene. -

It's awesome that the actress playing Amy comes from the Walken school of acting, removing all punctuation from the script. Her scene in bed with Jim is a masterclass. "I [two seconds later] I let you down." ""I think '[three seconds later] I think [one second later] I'm beyond that now." "Fine! [three seconds later] You go!" -

It was mentioned in the episode about the shirt ripping that goes on, and that maybe that's Dylan/Neil's fetish, but it feels like feet are a much bigger fetish on display in this film, There are so many inexpiable shots of feet in this film, most notably during the car accident scene, when we linger on feet for a good long while. That foot focus leads to a fun mistake where, during the shirt-ripping sex scene, where Dylan is on the left and his wife is on the right, but when they cut to their feet, the feet on the left have bright red toenails. Now, from the color of the jeans it's obvious the shot is backwards, but it's enjoyable to add "paints his toenails bright red" to Dylan's unique traits. Also, looks like Dylan really liked his hospital stay, as he had the same blinds and carpet installed at his house. -
There's plenty to talk about here, but it's not bad. Yeah, I said it.

Heubel noted during the cleared-off-desk sex scene that they should have scored the shirts before ripping them off. It looks like they may have, but it didn't work. -

Episode 221. The Hottie and the Nottie
FrancisRizzo3 replied to Elektra Boogaloo's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I watched with subtitles on, and during the "sex" scenes late in the film, there's a song that has only two lines of lyrics, "Look out baby, you gotta lot of love" and "your eyes". They repeat over and over. The music overall in the film has some of the most inane lyrics, but because the songs are so meaningless and bland, you wouldn't notice without them being spelled out on-screen. There's a good chance that some were written in a foreign language and translated poorly into English. Example: Caught on the downside, lost between the weight of lesser men. So lengthy to realize, you were better off where you began. Because your body, your body Is fleeting, is fleeting The chances, the chances Depleting, depleting You're lost in, you're lost in Your reasons, your reasons The movement is calling you in. You wanna shout it out. You wanna shout it out You wanna shout it out and by the sound of it, Well you wanna come back baby, wanna come back now. Out and by the sound of it again, You wanna shout it out. Taken aback love, by the silence hanging overhead. And still you can't realize, you were better off where you began. Because your chances, your chances Depleted, depleted The silence, the silence Is heated, is heated You lost him but found all your reasons, your reasons The movement is pulling you in. -

I've watched every film HDTGM has put before me, but this is the first time I've been mad about watching a movie for the podcast. This movie is just awful. -
This one's got a lot going for it, including Eddie Murphy in his "just pay me" phase, a theme park ride turned into a movie, a lengthy stay in development hell and a kind of bizarre cast (including Wallace Shawn and Deep Roy.) Or you could just do Even Dwarfs Started Small.

Episode 199 - A Night In Heaven: LIVE!

Listening to the episode again after watching the film, and when they mention the idea of strip clubs in malls they make some jokes, but on Bellmore on Long Island, there's a strip club in a strip mall (too on the nose?) that hosts nights like Heaven (or at least they once did, as there are articles online about it.) -

Did you catch that in the airport, when Patsy returns to talk to LAW, she circles around behind her and ends up on her right? Who does that when having a conversation? My guess is that the actress considers that her best side, and she cheated to that side of there frame on purpose. The camera movement to get them in frame is hardly smooth. That whole conversation is insane, how she goes from sad to happy to a sudden “Bye!” And the line "I wait for him to tell me what to do, and if I don't he cuts me off, sometimes for months"? Wait for him to tell her to do what? And he cuts her off from what? Sex? -

I'd like to know how Slick got her name. That's not a name that usually gets attached to a girl. Hell, I want to know more about Slick in general. The victim of a movie with way too much going on and zero focus. Let's break down what we know of Slick: She's Tony's best friend's girlfriend She does commercials for a car dealer She has enough money to buy a decent car She's friendly with Rick's mom She has a sexy shower with Rick She frequents Heaven And I think that's it. What a waste. Instead, maybe Slick is the person who runs Heaven, and she's cultivating a stable of young studs, and is frustrated that Rick is losing his focus on dancing, which is affecting her cash flow. So she sets up the shower to get LAW out of the picture, and get Rick back on track, but her plan gets short-circuited by NASA Bike? But what would be nice to know is what happens to Rick, THE GUY WHO IS ON THE POSTER? He's left naked in a boat, with no resolution to his plotline. -
