    Episode 144 - Stealth

Not sure if anyone else caught this, but during the one of the missions, it appears that the production team tried to get away with false perspective and use tiny models for the missile launching vehicles. Guess we can all agree that none of the $145 million dollar budget was put aside for proper rentals.

    Episode 144 - Stealth

I was throughly confused by some of the dialogue in this movie. I get that the screenwriters were trying to make the banter as real as possible (especially since the Navy wanted to be seen in a good light and potentially offered some ideas of what to say in certain instances,) but this movie is for the mass public and it just felt superfluous. Here are some of my favorite lines: Lt. Cummings - "Fuel: Catalyzed A1 methane. Exoskeleton: Metal ceramic composite. Aeroelastic wings. Pulse detonation engine with twin hybrid scramjet turbos. EDI's sensors can pick out a face five miles away." EDI - "Diving dead vertical at 2070 knots will increase truncheon velocity." Kara - "Talon Two to Operator. I'm getting a contradictory population-density read on the valley. Sensor detects mammals warming. Maybe a thousand medium weights. Those could be people. Repeat: Ground Intel may be incorrect. Request to acknowledge Dirty Mission Status and exercise attack abort authority. National Command Authority's duly impressed." I am jealous that June is able to focus on more important things, like keeping a baby alive, rather then dealing with this insanity.
  3. You have to know you are in for a real treat of a film, when the very first thing you are shown is a title card that literally makes no sense. "For Those Who Came in Late"??? Huh? Who is this for? What purpose is it serving? It's almost if we were watching the sequel to The Phantom and they were about to show us scenes from the prior film. But this is a 1940's character being shown to a 90's audience. There is no need for this title card. Just kick it off with the narrator that starts the film. I know it's nit-picky, but for the first set up of the boy with the tribe, all I kept thinking about was that damn title card.

    Episode 139 - Simply Irresistible

This is the first time I really am glad the podcast are out 24hrs after watching the film. It served as my group therapy session.

    Episode 139 - Simply Irresistible

So what I just remembered, is that Tom (SPF) is treating Jonathan's as a "whole new approach to fine dinning and shopping." He says that "after an exquisite meal the guests will have the run of the store." This is not something that's new. All major department stores offer in-house restaurants. The whole purpose, much like casinos, is to offer you as much as they can so customers don't leave the store. And if he is allowing guests to walk the store after dinner, this means he needs to have a full staff around the clock. Seems like crazy expenses just for a 4 Start restaurant. I would argue after you account for staff, overhead, utilities running non stop... the restaurant will not help Bendel turn a profit. Stop complicating a simple point. Just open a high end restaurant in a high end store. Thoughts Paul?

    Episode 139 - Simply Irresistible

Okay... So I am very, very "upset" that the group missed exploring one of the best comments of June. Everyone needs to go back and listen to around 19:20 and you'll hear June say, "I would argue that he Dan Akroyd character in the beginning was Southern-ish, as is the crab." I'm sorry. "As is the crab?" What?!?!?! We need closure on this! I love you June!!!!!!

    Episode 139 - Simply Irresistible

Personally I thought all the cuisines looked quite elegant, but laughed my ass off that the very last meal we are presented. An Apple?! I get that it was baked and stuffed, however when we as an audience are first presented the plate... we are not aware of that. I felt like the food stylist on set just had a mental breakdown on the last day and said, "Fuck It. You get an apple and that's it." Or maybe the food stylist was the actual French chef in the movie and him walking off set is really happening during the course of filming. This in turn leaves the producers with a half designed plate and their only solution is to put an apple on it. Finally... Is the use of an apple some type of nod from the writers to Snow White?

    Episode 139 - Simply Irresistible

We all agree that this movie is nuts, but one of my favorite dialogues was this... I'm sorry, but does SMG not understand how elevators work? I have lived in NYC for most of my life and outside of a couple of HUGE skyscrapers that have certain elevators that go to a certain range of floors... those in department stores are run-of-the-mill, standard elevators that do in fact... GO. TO. EVERY. FLOOR.

Episode 137 - The Avengers: LIVE!

I agree with Paul that there is no way Sean would wear the head of the Grateful Dead bear, but he did wear the full body suit. I wished I could have been on set to watch Connery walk in from his trailer and see everyone just starring at him. There had to have been a crew member thinking, "Man, what has happened to James Bond to fall this far?"

Episode 137 - The Avengers: LIVE!

I know there was a discussion on the sexual innuendos in the film, but I wished the crew brought up my favorite and most over the top one.... Quickly after Connery "intro-chokes" Uma, he says... "One should never fear being wet." This line is delivered while holding an unusual long gaze down. There is not mistaking he is referring to her vagina. Ewwwww! How uncomfortable was it after the director called cut?!

Episode 137 - The Avengers: LIVE!

When Mother has Father and 2uma at gun point, he threatens to shoot the evil Uma. Father's response is "Which one?" and this confounds Mother. "Which One?!?!" I don't know; how about shooting the Uma that is standing calmly next to the confirmed spy. Also shoot the Uma that is carrying the lifeless body of the other Uma.
  12. Yeah... it was the amazing Richard Dreyfus who portrays the older will wheaton character.
  13. Last post... just found this funny... This is how Sam looks immediately after the brutal fight with the border guard [/img] The VERY next scene... not a blemish or resemblance of a fight taking place [/img]
  14. We really need to dive more into Sandahl's earrings. We are told that 1 controls the ECR or electronic stinger and the other is a directional finder. Fine. But then the writers add more complexity in that if the earrings are removed from her body, Sam's belt will explode. [/img] But then they stepped up the crazy by 1,000% and implied that Sam's belt can be triggered by the simplest of touches. During the 3 Snake Scarf scene, one of the scarfs gently grazes her earring and Sam's belt starts beeping during his torture scene. WHAT?! So now that we know Sandahl can't take off the earrings without blowing the equipment and that the lightest of touches will set it off... how did she sleep at night? Did she never roll on to her side? This needs explaining!!!
  15. Did anyone else notice that Sam needed constant reminders of what his role is in this world? Example 1: He was explicitly told by the head nurse that he has to impregnate as many women as possible so the govt outnumbers the frog army. Then almost :20 mins later, Sandahl Bergman tells him: "We're gonna get em out (the harem), and you're gonna get em pregnant." This is Sam's immediate reaction: [/img] It's the look of man in pure shock and concern. Let's not forget this man is a confirmed rapist. He was told by the nurse that if he is successful, his record would be cleared. Example 2: After all is said and done and the harem is rescued, Sandahl reminds Sam that he still has work to do. Still has duties to "fulfill." Well Sam is completely flummoxed... [/img] Come on Sam! Get with the damn program already!
  16. As we are told, each side of this war is "desperate to rebuild and rearm" and that is why they need Sam Hell to impregnate as many women as possible. But even if he pulls it off, when is the govt expecting these offspring to start fighting? Is the unmade sequel some type of Frogtown/Super Babies crossover film? And if the legal age limit didn't change for 18... that means the govt is expecting this war to last close to two decades before these kids can start helping out.

    Episode 135 - Solarbabies: LIVE!

Solarbabies came out in '86, the same year as "Platoon" did which starred Johnny Depp. A year later, "21 Jump Street"comes on air, thus giving us the great comedic duo of Hanson and Penhall. I'm wondering if during the down time on set, did Peter and Johnny exchanged war stories about the intense film environment of the previous year? Johnny: "Putting aside the intense humidity of filming in the Philippines, the pressure of communicating so much horror these brave men experienced during the Vietnam War was almost insurmountable. There was such amazing talent in front and behind the camera, that I spent many sleepless nights pacing my room thinking I would not deliver the next day." Peter: "It was really hard at times to skate when the road we were on turned a bit sandy." Run Peter, Run!!! [/img]

    Episode 135 - Solarbabies: LIVE!

I'm very shocked that the amazing panel did not discuss the insane torture bed scene, especially since it felt similar to the "Barb Wire"/Boob Torture bed. I was 8 years old when Solarbabies came out on VHS and based on the saccharine-esque movie title and cover art, my parents were totally fine with me renting it to keep me occupied while they had dinner guests one night. Needless to say, when the torture bed was introduced with the fire ants... it bugged me a bit (pun intended), but I screamed my fucking head off when the Arian kid watched his "flesh fall away from his body!" WHAT THE FUCK!!! This scene has always stayed with me, so much so that when I re-watched it for this episode... I literally closed one eye and turned my head to avoid seeing it in its entirety. I consider this scene to be on par with the same fear-inducing insanity, as when we saw the Nazi's face melt at the end of Indiana Jones. I guess I just need to remember for future film experiences, if I'm watching a post apolcolytic society and there is a nazi-esque group... someone's skin is going to get seriously fucked up.
  19. I understand this is not an in-depth comment, but I laughed my ass off at the fact that Samantha's ice cream not only never melted over the course of what had to be a few hours, but it also changed flavors... 1st Round: Chocolate on top of Vanilla 2nd Round: Vanilla is now on top of Chocolate Final Round: Just Vanilla
  20. One of my favorite, not so subtle, moments was Guttenberg's response to Samantha not wanting to reach out to her former lover, who's a famous record producer. Mind you, Guttenberg's line comes on the heels of Samatha saying what she pigged out on today: "Anybody who could swallow two snow balls and a ding dong shouldn’t have any problem with pride.” What?!

    Episode 132 - Bloodsport: LIVE!

I know they discussed how many times "Kumite" is quoted in the movie, but I legitimately counted them (including the choruses of "Fight to Survive") and got 100! 1-0-0 Times!!! Also I find it strange for a secret fight tournament to be sponsored by the IAFF! Wouldn't it have been awesome if IAFF is connected with TAB soda and we had a huge logo on the mat?

    Episode 132 - Bloodsport: LIVE!

And yet, we never see Mr. Lin taking care of any other fighters but Frank and Ray. Sure you can say these are the only two guys he is overseeing, but Lin himself says he's in charge of "all North American fighters." Where are all the Mexican and Canadian fighters?! Once again, racist movie! ha.

    Episode 132 - Bloodsport: LIVE!

Paul, You called out the obvious exposition in this film, but one of my favorite examples of that was the song "On My Own." This track played immediately after Frank leaves the Ray in the hospital and delivers some amazing "see n' say": It hurts to find that you failed the test Knowing that you gave your best (Obviously this is commenting on Ray failing in his fight with Chong Li.) As your friend I'll never let you down I know you didn't mean to leave me On my own Alone tonight ("Ray... I'm so sad. Why did you get hurt.") I'm going to gather my strength Going to find the power Then you know I'm going to make it right (This foreshadows the scene where Frank is meditating at the temple, thus getting his head straight for the final round.) It's after dark you fear the most To face alone your private ghosts (This is where the image of Chong Li is see in the bus' reflection.)

Hey Frank! You just witnessed Ray Jackson get his head/neck stomped on. Do NOT grab him by the neck and shake him!
