The episode of the 2016 CBB Tour featuring Al A. Peterson fleshed out his background, and it was so good that I felt compelled to make an ad for his business:

While we're talking about representation of women in media: I saw the new Star Trek with friends last week and, afterwards, one of them remarked that Simon Pegg had written the script to ensure Scotty got the primary love interest for once. Thinking about it, I couldn't recall a single instance in which Jaylah was sexualized in the film, and they managed to avoid any of the usual gendered insults during her final one-on-one confrontation. (Even the vaguely cheeky captain's chair bit was apparently improvised by Sofia Boutella on set.) So, at least it's not all bad news.

I saw a photo from a Suicide Squad porn parody today, and the clothes worn by Harley Quinn covered more skin than her wardrobe in the actual movie.

Episode 142 - The Phantom: LIVE! (w/ Eliza Skinner, Ed Brubaker)
DanEngler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
1. I already knew Eliza Skinner was great, but her impromptu song was fantastic. 2. "The Devil's Vortex" is when two guys touch dicks and they point to the location of a third willing participant. 3. "The Phantom", on the other hand, is when an uninvited fourth guy shows up out of nowhere. 4. Paul, thank you for calling a moratorium on mid-show proposals.- 246 replies

Episode 1825 - Scott Aukerman

Oh, I'm not evaluating BvS from the perspective of a comics fan. Most of my exposure to Batman lore has been Rocksteady's Arkham games, and I've found every film incarnation of Superman profoundly boring. What seemed like the kernel of a great story/acclaimed graphic novel was laden with so much "Desert Batman fights flying monkeys" and "Kryptonian Jacuzzi God" and "Screaming Time Portal Boy" shit, none of it relevant to the movie at hand. If I have to read a series of Wikipedia articles to understand your movie, you have failed as a filmmaker. I agree with you 100% about Marvel's movies, though. I'm holding onto a sliver of hope that Black Panther and Captain Marvel will deliver something radically different and exciting but, barring that, I'm willing to concede that the zeitgeist* has passed me by. * Hi Taylor Anne!

Don't forget the before-it-all-went-wrong romantic flashback set to Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill"!
-
I also just saw BvS and, while the Batman-versus-Superman portion was okay, the additional 90 minutes of transparent "we have to lay the groundwork for a Justice League movie" filler was baffling. Marvel spent eight years constructing a cinematic universe; DC's script writers were handed a checklist of all the references needed to "catch up" overnight, and their solution was to inject a bunch of unexplained visions/cameos/omega symbols/riveting file-browsing sequences. That said, Affleck's Batman is now the definitive portrayal in my mind. Go rewatch any portion of Nolan's trilogy and ask yourself "What the fuck is Christian Bale doing with his mouth, and why did we give this a pass?"

Please note that Mr. Tompkins has politely declined to answer questions about future guests.

Despite a withering rebuke by Paul F. Tompkins during the 2014 Best Ofs, Scott still says "half-hazard". That takes guts.

Whaaaaaat, hello again, person I spoke to once! "…and that was how your father and I met." -
Searching only for the longest word in the movie title (i.e. "Karate") will generally yield the best results.

So they are gonna review Sharknado 4 right?

Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens (2016)

The only downside of refusing to do another Sharknado movie is denying us a Scott Aukerman episode of HDTGM.- 40 replies

Episode 89 - Mike Mitchell, Nick Wiger: The Force Awakens Minute
DanEngler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus
Fuck yes! Between this, the live episode of Doughboys, Andy Daly's Winnie The Pooh on I4H, and the continuing CBB Tour 2016 Best Of, this is my favorite week of podcasts in a long time. -
It's a blurry line, further blurred by the fact that Devin apparently invited people to create this poll on The Canon. The difference is that the Andrew Ti-Matt Besser beef was kicked off by Besser himself on I4H, and the majority of people complaining about Cameron Esposito on HDTGM were able to do so without straying into personal attacks. (For the record, I did delete several shitty "unfunny hag" comments from that thread.)

Lest anyone else make the mistake of assuming this forum is a venue for continuing arguments than began on Twitter, allow me to disabuse you of that notion. We don't tolerate attacks on hosts here, period.

If Scott, Paul, and Lauren retired from their respective podcasts and devoted all future studio time just to commenting on old episodes, I would listen to every second. Crying laughing at this.

Episode 141 - The Shadow: LIVE! (w/ Pete Davidson)
DanEngler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Yeah, I didn't watch The Shadow, but the plot described in the episode sounds remarkably similar to Batman Begins. American millionaire (Lamont Cranston/Bruce Wayne) does some bad shit, is "redeemed" by traveling to (Tibet/Bhutan) to train in the Mystic Arts, returns to (New York/Gotham) after many years to battle organized crime using fear/darkness/brute force while maintaining his cover as a hapless playboy, is confronted by (Shiwan Khan/Ra's al Ghul), a fellow practitioner of the Mystic Arts who (killed/secretly was) their master and is now threatening to destroy a decadent society via (atom bomb/microwave emitter). In the course of defeating their nemesis, our hero inadvertently reveals their secret identity to love interest (Margo Lane/Rachel Dawes). Also, something about fear gas and a talking knife. -
Episode 88 - Matt Gourley: Stockholm Syndrome with Dennis Palp
DanEngler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus
It's probably a self-deprecating joke about the fact that Gourley appeared on Star Wars Minute this week and/or podcast demographics in general.
