EPISODE 33 - TV News Control Room
DanEngler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
Welcome to THE BABADOOK OVAH HEAH! -
The text that says "Download" doesn't work, but there's button in the SoundCloud player (to the left of the "Share" button) that will start a download when clicked. This appears to be the product of an unannounced change on the SoundCloud end, and is affecting plenty of other podcasts, e.g. 99% Invisible. If/when it's fixed, there will be an update. How are you complaining about not getting updates after I responded to your initial post within two hours?

According to Engineer Brett, it's due to an unexpected change on SoundCloud and not intentional. Earwolf says they're working on a fix.

After all that, I'm really surprised Brendon didn't recommend Loose Change to Garon. -

"For as long as I can remember, I was adrift upon a sea of meaninglessness, but then I listened to this podcast and my life finally found purpose: to listen to this podcast. Thanks, SPONTANEANATION!" — Speculative iTunes review -
Engineer Sam is rapidly becoming as integral to Ronna & Beverly as Brett is to Who Charted.

After months of them being audibly dismayed at discussing the stagnant Billboard/box office charts, yet refusing to switch it up with some JPOP/All-Time Top 5/classic weirdness, I welcome the change. Agreed. It sounds like the new show will have a chart for Howard, Ku, and the guest. I hope these hew closer to "5 pieces of media I recently enjoyed" than "The Week That Was", because the latter means the guest is missing for 2/3 of the show OR the guest is invited on to discuss the hosts' personal lives. Either of those would be kinda weird.

HDTGM Voting Site is HERE - For Your Inconsideration
DanEngler replied to Shannon's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Due to the fact that FYI usage had dwindled to nothing, the ancient API that powers the site was retired in favor of a new one that supports Howl, Wolfpop.com, et al. Hence the errors. As suggested above, I've gone ahead and unpinned this thread. RIP FYI 2013-2015. We hardly used ye. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJuOc0Ld1uk -
1. Ravi doesn't know either Howard or Kulap. 2. Ravi doesn't know Who Charted. 3. Ravi has a movie that is currently blowing up in the press. 4. Earwolf booked Ravi on the show despite him not knowing Howard or Kulap or Who Charted, specifically to discuss his movie, because said movie is blowing up in the press. They presumably did this with the hope that his buzz would drive more downloads of the show. This was not an act of altruism. If you're unhappy with the booking, you might consider directing your complaints to the appropriate party.

EPISODE 28 - One Hour Photo Shop
DanEngler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
That's S.I.R., the SPONTANEANATION Improv Robot. It's sort of like the monolithic robots from Interstellar, but it plays the sound effects and queues up ad breaks. Engineer Ryan built it to replace that goddamned Android tablet! Fun fact: There's also a S.I.R. NY at Earwolf's offices in New York City, for when Paul takes the show on the road! -
I'm not sure where the exact generational divide occurs, but I can't imagine there was much overlap between "kids who watched Animaniacs after school" and "kids who watched a show about a middle-aged guy/decades-old movie references during prime time". (I was 15 when The Critic premiered, so…)
-
I'm an 80s kid, and my introduction to Orson Welles was The Critic. (Both voiced by Maurice LaMarche!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i7ycxiog40 The EXIF data on the episode photos suggest it was recorded on October 3. Cut Gino some slack; he goes to school for radio, not calendars.

EPISODE 120 - Masters of the Universe
DanEngler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I am 100% in favor of the gang writing and starring in a sequel to Masters of The Universe BUT ONLY IF the plot revolves around a quest to save Gwildor's people from disaster, and He-Mantzoukas greets them by saying "What's up, Gwildos!"- 244 replies

EPISODE 27 - Underneath the Eiffel Tower: Live from Largo
DanEngler replied to JulyDiaz's topic in SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins
For a moment, I thought Paul was waiting for the entire audience to join him in declaring Eban "ONLY…THE BEST." This seems like it should become a standard practice. Possibly at the live SPONTANEANATION on November 7. Not least of which because Eban's birthday is November 2. Get on it, Largo audience! -

Paul recently addressed this question in the "Ask Paul" thread. -
I love that this episode, like "The Stallone Bros" with Paul Scheer, is entirely based on a throwaway line that happens two minutes into the show. Nick Kroll is the undisputed king of derailment.
