Episode 254 — LIVE from Comedy Gives Back
Kickpuncher replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
That was before I heard the episode! I later went back and told him that I felt like an idiot after listening. -
Twooch VPN tonight with Emily Gordon & Ron Funches!

Episode 254 — LIVE from Comedy Gives Back

I'm pretty sure it was just the crew laughing. This was a lot of fun! My favorite moment was when someone (I don't think it was Scott, which makes it even funnier since it felt like an intentional set-up) asked Jack if anyone else worked with him at the "college" and he granted my wish by saying Cactus Tony does. -
Hopefully Brooklyn 99 will still be on the air and he'll be unavailable. My vote goes to Isaiah Mustafa, who's been angling for a chance to play Cage for a while now.

Thanks for posting this. I saw it on Scott and Paul's Tumblrs, but didn't even notice the audio. Great stuff.

Between that story, Talking Dead, and his cameo on Eastbound & Down, it's been a big couple of weeks for Mr. Manson.

Holy shit, good timing for this episode, maybe too good to be a coincidence. Marvel just announced that they're doing four 13-episode series for Netflix in 2015, one of which is Daredevil.

I like the rotating format format. The reverse Get Lost with Jonah Ray was also really good.

I'm watching last night's episode, and it seems like this might be an intentional shift rather than a one-time thing spurred by those guests. Everything feels a little slower and they're taking a little time to just riff before getting into some of the game rounds. In more Earwolf news, the Sklars are on tonight.

I doubt Howard will listen to the episode, but if he does, I bet he'll act threatened about how much mic time Frank gets. Kurt is just an awesome dude. I wasn't crazy about Bunk, but he's totally won me over with every other thing I've heard/seen him do.

Also the inspiration for a Simpsons episode title, "I Am Furious Yellow". So I guess it made an impact with the right audience.

What happened to the HDTGM sub-forums? It looks like the Paul Q&A and Corrections & Omissions forums are gone, and all of those threads were moved into the main HDTGM forum. It might be fine if people stick to one C&O thread for each episode, but the main forum is gonna get real crowded if there continue to be 6-8 separate C&O threads every time.

Good stuff, Steven. A few thoughts of my own... I was a little confused by some of their message, too. I think the general idea is solid, and I've seen and enjoyed one of their videos, but I do think a cleaner one-sentence distillation of their message would help. Also, regarding sexism, at one point, Crystal said that every female scientist has suffered from sexual harassment in some form (probably not true, but beside the point), but then went on to discuss gender-based discrimination, which is a different issue. As someone who buys and manages research equipment, yeah, billions is a huge overestimate. Infrastructure is really expensive, which is why it's hard to build something from scratch, but there are various incubators (some affiliated with universities) that allow new ventures to work in existing facilities, or build new facilities in existing lab-oriented space. Regarding the Einstein thing, I think the key is that a "thought experiment" isn't really an experiment using the scientific method; you need some physical apparatus for that. While a lot of experiments hundreds of years ago (or even in Einstein's era) were simple enough that the required apparatus wouldn't cost much at all, the rate of scientific advancement means that things get complicated enough and specific enough that it's pretty hard to truly find anything new without some sort of sophisticated equipment.

One of the best episodes of the year, both for the opening banter and the guests segment.

The whole episode is online now, too. I agree that it was one of the best episodes. Loved Howard's joke for the syringe/dog emojis.

Having a Nerd Poker episode on VPN would be a good start.

Here's some constructive criticism - Scott should give me a chance to recover from laughing at "shocking disc jockey" before he makes me start laughing at "cheesed off".

Like Spider-Man? Except, you know, as Spider-Man.

Ha! I interpreted it as slices too, but I think you're right. Someone should make a Tumblr devoted to deciphering the various things Howard says.

Episode 105 — Zombie Lisp
Kickpuncher replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
Yeah, I like Doyle and have two of his pieces. Just checked out some of Brogan's stuff, cool style. I've seen some of it from 1988 shows but I guess I just didn't know the name. OK, I'll stop too. -

No, Ryan Brinkerhoff. Not really familiar with him, just happened to find this on Gallery 1988's site, probably from one of their themed shows. -

I actually do! -
Holy shit, this episode. Howard was in absolute top batshit form, and Kulap and Stard were bouncing off him perfectly.

Episode 74 — Halloween III: Season of the Witch
Kickpuncher replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I definitely know who Eck is, but don't really see the resemblance. Having watched the AMC broadcast of this on DVR, I was deprived of the "soft core porn" sex. I also don't remember the line about her being over 18 being in there, but (apologies if this was already suggested) there's no way he could have really had any doubt, because no kid under 18 would go by themselves to a morgue to identify their parent's body. -

I know you're joking, but I was actually mildly annoyed by that. For one thing, YES, there almost certainly are 15-year-olds who listen to Earwolf (and the juxtaposition of this with the discussion of Matt also painting drinking milk as juvenile was pretty funny). Mostly, I think Matt is being overly dismissive of the idea of "posters". The ones Earwolf sells aren't some slapped-together-in-Photoshop-in-ten-minutes image on cheap paper that a teenager or college student would have taped to their wall, they're real art by real artists which are probably framed by most people who buy them. The "Wolf Dead" one is a limited-edition screen print, a form which is, if not exactly a big business, a fairly popular thing. Anyway, great episode, and I agree with those who have singled out Eugene for praise; he comes up with so many funny little moments that take me by surprise. Since this would normally have been the previous week's VPN episode, does that mean that isn't going to be released as a podcast?
