Nice job. Did Howard think that Wii is the only device that will play Netflix on a TV? Super fun episode.
-
I was also really surprised when they asked if it had come out yet, and then acted like it was some super-obscure direct-to-DVD movie or something. I've heard a lot of good things about it and have always wanted to see it, but have yet to get around to it.

Here's a Vulture piece on that: http://www.vulture.com/2013/05/after-earth-will-smith-love-letter-to-scientology.html?mid=twitter_vulture

Episode 83.5 β Bonus Cut: Grandpa Confessions

Brian Husky, Chelsea Peretti, Hulk Hogan...What is with this burn epidemic in the comedy community? -
I think we should commission Jesse Ventura to investigate. As for Will Smith, I agree that I Am Legend was good...but that came out six years ago. And I think that's a big part of the problem. When you only make a movie once a year or less (this is only his 4th movie since then), I think there's a reasonable expectation of that selectivity (which can be less favorably termed as arrogance/elitism/whatever) leading to quality; in his case, it's not happening. Being that confident and consistently putting out good stuff can be appealing, and at least deserves respect. Being unapologetically schlocky/populist/whatever (think Rock or Diesel) can also be appealing. Being really confident and putting out a mix of mediocrity and crap is really unappealing.

Episode 83 - Driving Yellow Jackets
Kickpuncher replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
Oh, Jesus. That's one case that absolutely is closed, assuming the case is Rhodes being a plagiarizing piece of garbage. Now if Matt could get one of the idiots who are countering by saying that Patton, Shittington, et al are "bullying" Rhodes for calling him on it, then that could be a (somewhat painfully) fun discussion that would actually fit in well with an established Case Closed topic. -
That and "Handy" both made PFT laugh so hard that he had to completely pause for a solid five seconds to compose himself. That was like the visual version of his usual semi-off-mic out-of-character laughter.

I've seen/heard a bunch of people mention how many collateral deaths and property damage result from the action scenes in these movies. It would be funny if someone made a parallel-narrative short film that took place in the F&F universe that was essentially a disaster movie.

Episode 83 - Driving Yellow Jackets
Kickpuncher replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
Not to stray too far off-topic, but two of my favorite Simpsons lines/moments ever were bee-themed: "Or what? You'll release the dogs? Or the bees? Or the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you?" and "Bees are on the what now?" Anyway, great team, great episode. -
It's her, just highly modulated.

I don't know, but that five seconds was basically a perfect start to my weekend.

Oh, I know, and I agree it's amazing. Scott totally trolled everyone on last night's VPN show when he promoted these shirts at the end of the show and said "My wife" MULTIPLE times without the proper pronunciation (and, I dare say, with a knowing look into the camera). What a rascal.

Looks like you'll get your wish. PFT and Gillian Jacobs on tonight's VPN episode!

Taro: Was this a less-than-fantastic episode of "By the Way"? Me: No, Taro! -

You can agree with the philosophy or not, but one thing I've found to be pretty consistent, whether it's on podcasts, Twitter, or wherever, is that comedians are totally cool with riffing on each other, but aren't really down with people from outside the comedy community doing it. As for your 'sources', the panelists on a roast are almost always comedians and are usually friends of the subject. -
Let's all show our appreciation for The Choctaw in this topic

Come on, we all know that if Scott were to have an affair, he'd communicate via non-archived messages within Words With Friends games, not some weird code system on the Earwolf forum. -
Vulture calculated the length of the runway - 28.8 MILES!!! http://www.vulture.com/2013/05/how-long-was-the-runway-in-fast-and-furious-6.html

I think the standard for archived VPN shows going up on YouTube is the Monday 11 days after they air live, so five days from now. I don't think there were a whole lot of visual elements to this one that you'd miss out on with the podcast, but one of the highlights was Harris air-drumming to "Wipe Out". Sadly there was no reference to the Choctaw's famous rendition of that song.

There aren't enough 'Likes' in the world for me to express how much I love this. I've also only seen the first movie, but at some point, I do want to watch them all, or at least 4-6 (or whatever one they're on by then). Between the two HDTGM episodes and other outlets, I feel like I know this franchise better than some that I actually have seen.

Great show, nice job happy birthday Dan, Andy.
-
One other thing I forgot to mention - I was surprised that PFT let a reference to "Happy Birthday" go by without rolling out one of his go-to references, "those old spinsters Mildred and Patty".

The only reason it bothered me was that the non-remixed "Closing Up the Plug Bag" was pretty jarring...bro.

And the second-best Aukerman! Wonderful episode. Favorite throw-away exchange: "It's not like a parrot." "It's in the liner notes." "It's not like a parrot." "Yeah, I heard you."
