Episode 218 — The 4th Anniversary Extravaganza!
Kickpuncher replied to admin's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I think the issue people are taking is that in all the time this forum has existed, you never cared enough to come in and compliment or discuss anything before, and now you suddenly have the urge to come in and criticize something (and specifically something that's not entirely unique to this episode)? A lot of us criticize things that we think aren't up to par, but it carries more weight when it's balanced out with deserved praise. I don't really like when people reflexively jump on anyone who criticizes the shows, but this is a case where I can absolutely see where they're coming from. -
I wasn't expecting much after Kulap sort of threw Howard's contribution (or lack thereof) under the bus on Tooch. Honestly, I don't even think I would have noticed that aspect of it if she hadn't mentioned it there or here during the show. With two guests, I'd expect Howard to talk less than in a normal show anyway. That said, it still suffered from the same issues as the other live shows, most of which have been outlined above. Still, plenty of fun moments that make it well worth a listen.

Her name was Madame.

I think they really stumbled on to something with "Name That Potter". It might be a little soon for a spin-off, but they could farm it out to Pete Holmes for his TBS show. "Mister Potter..."
-
Cool, thanks. I kind of doubt I'll get around to it, but it's nice to know it's an option.

Loved the back-to-back Adomian/characters segment.

Off the top of my head, I would say that, while Al himself generally doesn't use R-rated language, he doesn't really seem averse to it, so I don't think that Scott and the other guests talked any differently than they normally would. If you don't have time to pre-listen yourself, you're probably better off not listening with kids.

Episode 61 — Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot

Yeah, but I'm sure he understood that they wanted someone with experience playing the head of an oppressive regime, so Larry Thomas was the clear choice. -

A++ episode. Awesome work by everyone. My favorite highlights: - PFT's reaction to "Wain-Scotting" - Tracy embracing and then over-using "My wife" - "A SHOCKING DISC JOCKEY?!" - The "Above the Sea" prom theme, especially because an ACTUAL PERSON was on Call Chelsea Peretti last week talking about having to decide on a prom theme and one of the choices being an under the sea theme. -

This is clearly a man who has found his niche in life. -
When they got to the Depp/Tonto discussion, I was hoping they'd get into the presence of absence of -um suffixes in his dialogue. Hopefully after the movie comes out.

I'm pretty sure it's "values", like in a "family values" sense, in reference to her wholesome image.

Oh yeah, that was great. I can't believe no one got the reference. I think Aaron's joke still works because the square root of any negative number is imaginary, even if it's some multiple of i rather than strictly i.

Episode 34 — If It Ain't Stiff, It Ain't Worth A Fred Armisen
Kickpuncher replied to admin's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
Yeah, it's amazing how you'd watch that sketch and think "Holy crap, Fred Armisen is AMAZING in this!" and that (knowing his reference points) he has to be the driving force behind it, and then you hear him talk about it and he's basically giving all the credit to everyone else. Such a sweet guy. -

When I woke up this morning, if you told me that I could watch Jake, Howard, and Kulap having an in-depth discussion of the guy who lost his life savings at the carnival and got a giant banana with dreadlocks, I would say this just might be the best day of my life. -

I love this carnival story, so glad they're showing it. Also a perfect episode to have it on due to Howard's well-documented "banana" foibles. -

Episode 34 — If It Ain't Stiff, It Ain't Worth A Fred Armisen
Kickpuncher replied to admin's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
GOD DAMN, this episode. Awesome guest, awesome clips. Fred is one of my favorite SNL performers ever, and the weird specificity that he's able to bring to sketches fits so perfectly with this show. Jake tweeted about that History of Punk sketch the night it aired, and I replied saying that it was their best sketch of the season; after watching it multiple times and listening to the songs, I've amended that opinion to it being an all-time classic. LOVED the deep dive on that one.
