Episode 314 β Yβall Heard Any of These Names Before?
Kickpuncher replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
Titles of movies shouldn't be any form of spoilers -
I think I had a revelation while lying in bed last night (he said as men in white coats hauled him off) - Working off of tsdcs's comments on how similar Brice was to Tyler Perry, it occurred to me that, if this movie was made ~5 years earlier, Perry would have played Brice. As is, he's just old enough that someone was eventually able to convince him that he's way too old for it. That could also explain why Madea wasn't in it. Also, where is the episode?!

Yeah, it's a reasonable concern, but it feels like there's a pretty wide gap between performers who would appear on HDTGM and those who would ever be in Tyler Perry movies. Among semi-frequent Earwolf guests, the first two that occurred to me would be Brandon Johnson and Jerrod Carmichael (convenient timing there), and they're both less "alternative" than Funches or Buress. And now that you've put the idea in my head, I really, really want it to be Ron Funches.

And what might that sound like? Loved the "I could get used to this" callback, and I'm glad someone else caught Paul's reference to Janie's Masterpiece Classic audition video. -
"Who Departed? (From the Last Tour Stop in Order to Reach This Tour Stop...Not Died. We Should Have Thought This Out More Carefully.)"

FWIW, I can't take credit for saying that, but I do agree with it.

I heard another discussion of Gone Girl (I think it was a Grantland podcast on the career of David Fincher) where they also strongly praised his performance.

After watching the movie and reading the minisode thread discussion, I'm still baffled enough that I needed to read this one. I think the reason for that is that they didn't want to give away that it was her story, but old Brice doesn't appear until after the story is told, at which point that's being revealed. Some other thoughts, mostly related to stuff in this thread: - The main story seems to take place in our present time, and the bookends seem to be at least 10-20 years later, so I guess that's the future? Spoiler alert, still no cure for HIV, I guess. - Regarding the same name thing, I'm pretty sure she said it was her sister, so it couldn't even be a coincidence that it was just someone else with the same name. - That client not realizing it was her was less dumb than Brice and Melinda not connecting the dots on Harley. Like, they were staying together and seem to have had extensive discussions about his wife leaving him for this guy and her abusive ex, yet neither one ever mentioned his name? EVEN THOUGH HE WAS A FAMOUS SOCIAL MEDIA MOGUL?!?

No no no, it was much worse. That is a bad line that would have made sense. The actual line was "If smiles were dollars, they'd have had millions."

The Jeter sandwich is perfectly conceived, because it's incredibly boring and therefore will be liked by a large number of people.
-
I think part of the problem is that Perry probably has carte blanche to do whatever he wants. The Williams accent reveal was one of a few moments I chuckled at because you can tell they were conceived as huge laugh lines in the midst of this insane melodrama. The other funniest part for me (at least among those no one has mentioned) was that Judith didn't put any questions about sex on the survey because she personally didn't believe in premarital sex, and her (by all accounts competent, successful) boss in this serious, big-money business was somehow OK with that.

Just saw that "Dead Mouse Theater" commercial. Yeah, it's real weird, and not funny-weird. -
Yeah, if they do this and come pretty much anywhere in the Northeast, I'm in.

Oh man, I LOVE that Seth puts on the glasses and neck brace to get into character. -
So great. Howard was in rare form by Whooch standards. #gotofork

No, but they turned it down and/or she quieted down.

When is Affirmation Nation coming back?

Well, if it's going to be weekly (see above), it will probably be a more standard podcast length. -

Why yes! Seth Morris β@sethismorris ATTN! Sneak peak of Bob Ducca's Affirmation Nation goes up @ midnight. Featuring @MsJuneDiane as laundry mat astrologer #earwolf -
Hi Kyle.

Scott said (and Paul confirmed) that Interpol have been a band for 13 years, so all of their fans were 13 at the time. If Horatio's complete lack of commitment to his characters ever doesn't completely crack me up, I'll know I've lost the will to live. Also, CODY!!!

Another A+ (or C+, if you prefer) Earwolf appearance from Middleditch.
