This movie is kinda like 'The Goonies' but features even younger kids: some who smoke, and all who curse and constantly talk about sex... A huge plot point hinges on who is and isn't a virgin and all of the 11 years old characters spend MOST of the 2nd act debating it. Plus, lots of lame one-liners: 'See ya later, band-aid breath!' (to a mummy, obviously) 'Scary German guy is bitchin'!' (referencing the creepy old man/ potential pedo they befriend) 'Wolfman's got nards!' (after kicking a werewolf in the balls) And my personal favorite... Dracula yells this at 6 year old girl after he's picked her up by the neck: 'Give me the amulet, you BITCH!' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sGSApjMlj4 If memory serves, there are even a few homophobic slurs. It is a perfect example of an insane 80's kids movie that led to the PC-ification of the 90's. It's weird, and funny, and has ALWAYS left me wondering 'How did this get made?" As I posted earlier in this thread, I was so afraid of this movie as a child, i stopped going into the kids section of my local movie rent store, for fear that I would merely glance at the box. I have people over to my place every other Friday, generally to watch HDTGM movie selections... Recently, nobody was in to mood for 'Toys' so I suggested we watch this little gem, 'The Peanut Butter Solution'. When we finished there was just this sense of uncomfortable dread in the room. I feel slightly vindicated that this movie that scared the shit out of me as a kid creeped the fuck out of grown adults... From the the creepy, almost-marital, relationship between the dad and his daughter, to the ever-growing pubes coming out of the elementary-aged kid's pant legs... this movie is THE WORST!... ... ... and you can stream the whole thing on you tube. #bonus -

This movie is for children and it starts with Courtney cox's character finding out here parents died in a plain crash. Way to go, 80s!

I know 'top that' is the worst but this movie also has a musical number called 'We like boys'. It is terrible... Just like this movie.

I'm gay so obviously I don't mean this as a negative but this movie is so overtly homoerotic it is kinda THE how did the get made movie. Also a major plus to doing this is there is a massive nightmare documentary that covers the whole series... In it they spend about 10 mins getting the whole cast and creative team on record about their reaction to the movies gay themes and some of the quotes are CLASSIC! THis is almost next October -

I love 'Monster Squad'. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid... Having said that, putting anti-gay slurs in a kids movie is a dumb thing to do, and no matter when the movie was made it begs the question 'what the hell were they thinking?' I mean... an adult calls a 6-year-old a bitch in this movie... which is a KIDS' MOVIE... I think we can agree the writer was misguided and that's exactly why it's a gem.
