    Episode 64 — After Earth

It's funny, listening to this episode again, hearing all the proposed ideas and story elements the group either thought were being conveyed or would have been more compelling. I was thinking about the ending and how it could have been more interesting with a little role reversal. Imagine if both Cypher and Kitai were present when the Ursa attacked. Cypher is invisible to the Ursa, but is helpless in his condition to fight. He has to watch while his son is throttled nearly to death by the creature, eventually lying prone on the ground. As the monster goes in for the kill, Cypher suddenly feels fear for the first time in a long time for the life of his child. At this point, with Kitai's fear levels dropping and Cypher's sudden release of pheromones, the Ursa becomes confused and does a 180 towards Cypher. This gives Kitai the time he needs to have his revelation and get to his feet. Then grab your cutlass and it's schnickity schnickity, as per usual. It would convey a better message about owning your fear, realizing you'll never fully be rid of it, but knowing it can be overcome.

    Episode 64 — After Earth

I didn't think Pasta Robot could be topped, then came "What's a Street Fighter?". I didn't think "What's a Street Fighter?" could be topped, then came After Earth Birthday Candle Facetime. You're awesome, June, leaky eye and all! I feel totally vindicated for "enjoying" this movie. People and critics have been huge assholes about this film and the family Smith, tremendously silly though they may be, and I was worried this episode might be more of the same. Thank you, HDTGM, for being reasonable, fair, and hilarious. My favorite moment in this film, during which I was honestly stifling laughter, is when Jaden Smith finds a piece of the crashed spaceship but has to clear away the brush to see the name on it to make sure it's a piece of HIS crashed spaceship. And they never even touched on the beacon that Jaden has to walk around with like he has bad cellphone reception. I really want to reiterate how happy I am that the ribbing of this movie remained so good-natured. I smile when I think back on it as if to say, "Aww. It's so cute that you thought this would work!"

    Episode 63.5 — Minisode 63.5

You mean to tell me none of you liked when the baboons tore Jaden apart twelve different times? Oh wait...that's just how many times they should've torn him apart but somehow kept falling back 30 feet every few seconds. I gotta say, rather than being angry, I'm kind of enjoying how silly this movie was the more I think about it. I'm suddenly really looking forward to this episode. When the sister told him to stay still and be quiet, I couldn't help thinking, "And under NO circumstances should you whip your hair back and forth!"

    Episode 63.5 — Minisode 63.5

After everyone's reactions to Fast 6 and this, I feel like I'm living in another dimension lately.

    Episode 63.5 — Minisode 63.5

This was NOT a bad movie. It's a "Meh" at worst, and that's still scores above anything M. Night's done in the past decade. Although I did love the part where Kitai finds a piece of the crashed spaceship and needs to clear away brush to see the name on it to make sure it's a piece of HIS crashed spaceship.
  7. I checked and somebody did suggest this on FYI, and I agree. For as much as people seem to know about this, I wonder how many have actually seen it. I don't know if it's been discussed to death or if its flaws are too well known (e.g. Phantom Menace), but I think it would be a great little change-up in the type of movies done on the show to tackle more "classic" cinema.

I hate when Paul doesn't not do The Happening.

    Episode 63.5 — Minisode 63.5

Why does everyone hate Will Smith all of a sudden? I realize his past few films haven't been great and his kids are sort of overexposed, but why the animosity? I've noticed the same thing with Anne Hathaway lately. You don't care for them, okay, but where did the spite come from? NOTE: I don't mean anyone on this board specifically, just in general. And despite the AWFUL butterfly ending, I think I Am Legend is a thoroughly entertaining sci-fi thriller.

    After Earth

You don't need to con people when your movies, despite their quality, earn back more than twice their budget. http://www.businessw...x-office-profit Though I do wonder if they did research to see if M. Night's name on the product would hurt box office. That's counter-intuitive to me because I didn't even know this was his film until this week, and I had little interest in seeing it until I did. Don't overlook the "ironic douchebag" market.
  11. I'm kind of surprised Space Jam beat out Howard the Duck, but maybe most of the people voting on the intertubes are younger than me and were never exposed to Howard the Duck. Oddly, both movies involve fighting aliens and have a scene with a duck in a shower cap.
  12. You never know. Statham didn't look back. Maybe the explosion turned slightly to the left.
  13. Considering Shaw and Giselle just flew away and vanished into the darkness, I thought it was fairly obvious they weren't dead. I thought either Shaw was going to pop back up at the last minute and then immediately so would Giselle to save the day, or they were blatantly setting up the sequel. Her "death" was a neat little set piece, but I fully expect they'll both be back. Speaking of death scenes, I'm amazed no one talked about Letty's flashback to how she survived. See, what we didn't realize was that he moved his gun slightly to the left. They had a funeral for Letty in Fast & Furious. With what? Did they bother explaining in this movie why no one was concerned that a body wasn't found? I've said before I consider these movies the adolescent male equivalent of the Twilight films. And like the Twilight films, I think I might need to actually watch the rest of this series to appreciate how it evolved (or de-volved) into the later films. I enjoyed Breaking Dawn Part 2 immensely because I had context of who everyone was and their relationships to one another. X-Men 3 and Spiderman 3 are awful, but they've got to be a hell of a lot worse if they're your introduction to the series and the characters.
  14. Ah, that crumpled piece of paper. Forgot about that. I was too caught up in Hobbs violating laws, human rights, and physics to get what he wanted and never facing any consequences. Hobbs is kind of like the antithesis of Marion Cobretti. Cobra basically does everything by the book but is treated like some renegade psychopath. Hobbs is a renegade psychopath, but he gets results you stupid chief!
  15. Why shoot little devices that take over the car's steering? Why not just make them bombs? Where did all those soldiers go after the Rock pulled a gun on them and released a terrorist? Why did the guy agree to help the Rock after his vicious handshake when the Rock, as an American, has no authority in Britain? Are the Rock and his sidekick the only DSS agents in the world? Why don't they ever have backup or assistance? Fuck Letty. Letty was a willing accessory to murder. She knew Shaw's plan. She knew they were going to kill those soldiers. Her reaction to Shaw's rampant slaughter of innocents is essentially saying "Is that really necessary?" And why WAS there a tank in the first place? Why was that part of the caravan? I am getting angry and a little nauseous typing all this. I'm just incapable of enjoying these movies. I almost fell asleep twice. However, I was the only one in a packed theater who laughed at the "Samoan Thor" joke.

    Super Mario Bros.

So, I trust you're aware that it has been? Welcome!
  17. Nope. Fuck this movie. I just got out and am honestly feeling a visceral sense of anger, sadness and guilt for having contributed money to this series. Looking forward to the show.
  18. I hope it's fun. I'm definitely going to an A.M. screening so I can pay as little as possible. Besides Fast Five, I've never seen nor wanted to see any of the F&F series and I hated every second of Fast Five. But who knows? I saw every agonizing chapter of the Twilight series and then somehow had a freakin' BLAST watching Breaking Dawn Part 2.
  19. Same here. Browse Recommendations hasn't worked for me for the past few days.

    The First Wives Club (1996)

It's about three middle-aged women who are dealing with confidence issues after being cheated on and dumped by their husbands for younger women. They get revenge by using wits, intelligence and clever scheming to reveal their husbands as immoral scumbags while sapping them of the fortunes they helped them make and gain back their self-worth by proving they are strong, capable, exceptional women. Feminism. Cameos by Rob Reiner and Ivana Trump. (I used to freaking love this movie)
  21. OH, yes. Not laying it all on Zooey. Plenty of other problems.
  22. Tin Man ...is all I'll say about Zooey. This one caused me a lingering discomfort with her similar to the one I felt after watching James Franco host the Oscars. At least try. NOT recommended HDTGM viewing, by the way.
