  1. Maybe today the guests will be Kate Miccuci and Karen Kilgariff.
  2. Wouldn't Tom Lennon playing Little Gary on a visual medium sort of ruin things a bit? I mean it'll be clear to see that he's not actually little.

    Episode 5 — Analyze Fish

With all your fish/this puns you're all forgetting that a sequel to this podcast could play on the sequel to analyse this. So someone has to convince PFT (a noted jazz skeptic if an old routine is to be believed) to like the 18 piece jazz ensemble The Big Phat Band.
  4. Fuck that was a great episode, I was kind of distracted while listening to the first half so I wasn't quite appreciating the callbacks at first, but when I picked up on it, it was just superb. I'll have to listen to this one again. I do enjoy very "meta" comedy but it has to be done sparingly and it takes skill to get it right, and it worked beautifully here.
  5. You don't seem to have read the whole thread. That point's already been discussed.
  6. I've seen a ton of female comics say people tell them "I don't usually find female comedians, but you were great" so people can still find one or two female comedians funny while still having some sexist attitudes. Jen Kirkman's twitter account has really alerted me to how many douchey sexist comedy fans there are. To be fair, there's even women who say they don't usually find female comedians funny. But one of the things that seems really weird to me in the whole "women aren't funny" debates, is how comfortable people are throwing out that statement. Like, nobody would say "black people aren't funny" and even if someone thought this, they'd probably at least know that it's something they shouldn't say out loud. For some reason there isn't that same stigma to saying women aren't funny.
  7. I'm all for more female characters on the show, I've enjoyed Amy Phillips, Lauren Lapkus and Pamela Murphy in recent times. I would say with Nancy, the character is a little one-note by its very definition so I don't know how much potential there is to develop the character further, but I would say even a lot of people's favourite characters probably didn't start out so great and took time to develop. And certainly with Paul F Tompkins they all have a lot of himself in them like his knowledge of sci-fi and it's his rapport with Scott that makes them work so well. One of the things that's so funny is that these crazy caricatures of ALW, Garry Marshall and Werner Herzog basically treat Scott like an old friend at this point. And it's largely because Paul and Scott have known and worked with each other for so long. The only female character that's had the time to develop an interesting dynamic with Scott is Marrisa Wompler, and look how popular she is.
  8. I was so happy when a Lauren Lapkus character was described as a "bottom feeder" even though it wasn't actually intended as a reference to the multiple ass-sucking episode, I like to believe it was.
  9. Fuck the people that don't like Nancy, do an episode with Nancy, Lauren Lapkus' character Tracy and Little Gary
  10. Is there any plan to do something different with the bonus episodes, are they often likely to be slightly atypical in some way? Or are they just regular episodes?
  11. Wow forget that Jeff Garlin thing with Larry David, how did you get Jen Kirkman? I'm only half-joking by the way, I love Jen Kirkman.

    Snubs and Flubs!

So this thread is basically list every episode that didn't make it? Okay I'm game. I already mentioned Grammy Spectacular in the other thread, I hope Amy Phillips comes back more often and becomes appreciated because the show could do with more funny female character performers. 135 - Scavenge and the Wisemen - Erinn Hayes, Paul F. Tompkins, Dan Telfer Paul and Scott on the origin of Christmas is great and seemed to be the precursor to a similar bit in Time Bobby. 169 - Immortal Mustache - Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul F. Tompkins Although it's since been retconned, Cake Boss being revealed to be an immortal steward to watch over mankind is one of my favourite moments. And I love Paul suddenly breaking down when getting Scott to tell story about talking to a DJ as Popeye
  13. I think it's probably fair to say if it wasn't for the mass suicide at the end of Wipeout, it wouldn't be as fondly remembered, up until that point, I would have picked the other Daly/Mantzoukas episode from the year over it. And you do have to be a "superfan" to really appreciate it. I agree Amy Phillips is underrated, the Liza Minnelli episode was great and it had Todd Glass doing his Rodney Dangerfield impression over Rappin Rodney. Anyway I have a theory about Weird Al being there at the end. It could just be that they were recording another episode with him afterwards. But it could also be to do with something Jeff Ullrich posted last week about signing a deal with someone big and unexpected for a new show. Could it be a Weird Al podcast?
  14. "But chief, what about your wife, Kulap!" "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - huh I fell so much longer than you guys" "That's it I'm going to come out of character now." "No, don't you dare come out of character!" Yeah I hope that at least makes a bonus clip. I wasn't blown away by the clip with Caplan, Kroll and Mulaney either. Like the Pally episode, it's not bad and I don't expect the whole show to be my personal top ten, but there's still a ton of episodes I'd pick before it.
  15. It really warms my heart that Paul F Tompkins seems to enjoy listening to the show as much as any of the fans.
  16. I only voted for 1 out of all those clips (although a couple of them probably would be my 11 and 12) I feel out of touch with what the other fans like. Unless it's because one person voted 1000 times. I found that Adam Pally non-character work funny too but top 10 really?

    Jeff Q&A

I've always been tempted to like my own post just to see if it would work but I didn't want to look like a huge narcissist if it did. So thanks for showing me you can. Sorry this isn't a question Jeff. I hope you're not mad.
  18. One of the most ridiculous arguments to come out of this is that teachers in schools should be armed. As if 1) Training teachers to be proficient in firearms is no big deal and 2) The prospect of teachers having guns in school isn't terrifying. I think I'd be too scared to ever go to school.

    Jeff Q&A

Why is Gelmania released so erratically? I realize the answer is often scheduling and the amount of production and writing it require that other shows don't. But I'd have thought it would make more sense to release it monthly rather than having huge breaks and then releasing it weekly, but only for about 4 weeks before it goes into another break.
  21. I love how much they've developed the world Wompler inhabits. If there's future episodes they could even introduce some other characters into the show. I really like the idea of a podcast that's very narrative heavy. I'm guessing this is all slightly more plotted than an average comedy bang bang episode even though it's still mostly improvised. Also I found myself kind of agreeing with Scott. I kind of felt bad for Marissa and that's quite achievement for an improvised podcast character to have that much depth.
  22. I loved when Harris asked if it was actually the parents killing their children, I just imagined Paul thinking for a moment and realizing "I'm going to have to say yes to this."

What happened with The Apple Sisters? They seemed to return for a few monthly episodes and then stopped again.

Episode 1 — Let the Game Begin!

Wow, hasn't this been rumoured to be happening for about 2 years? Excited that it's finally here.
